OFFICIAL CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY SEASON & NEW YEAR'S 2017 THREAD

It's amazing that this thread had dropped so far down the pages!

I here you on that, I didn't even see it the first two times I looked thru the thread titles!

Another interesting thing about today's MiceChat rumor article is that it looks like we could lose A Bug's Land when a full Marvel Land is officially announced and it gets underway with construction. While I can see the need to free up space, I don't like the idea of losing A Bug's Land. For one thing, even though people take it for granted, the dedication to the theme in that land is amazing. Even the bathroom is clever and witty. Also, the giant Christmas lights and ornaments during the holidays are such a fixture -- I can't imagine them not being there! So, if you are heading to Disneyland Resort this holiday season, make sure you get some holiday photos in A Bug's Land -- just in case it disappears in the near future!!

Thank you for that info, we will make sure to spend some time in there, we haven't since 2005.

I'm the token Disney fanatic and trip planner in the family and am exited to be a part of this thread! It will me and my DW with our DD who will have just turned 21 and our DS who just turned 18. It is our last official "family" trip in that it will probably be the last one we foot the bill for :teeth:

We will be there November 26th thru December 1st and are staying at the Desert Palms Inn and Suites. It is a bit further to walk to get to the entrance than some other "Good Neighbor" hotels, but the accommodations are great, they have a good breakfast buffet, and their rooftop view of the fireworks is pretty cool.

We were last at DLR as a family in 2009 during the Halloween season when they were still building WoC and Cars Land. We did WDW and Universal Orlando during the Holiday season back in 2012 so we haven't been to a Disney park in 5 years (except for a lucky business trip I took last year). And we have never been to DLR during the Holidays.

The focus of the trip is our DD's 21st B-Day and will be a more "grown up" trip including a "Disneyfied Pub Crawl" (see PTR link in signature). That and just experiencing all of the holiday decorations, food, and fun!

Huzzah for Disney Holiday Magic! :santa:

I did it! I convinced Hubby we need to go back, so instead of just me and the girls going, all 4 of us are going for Christmas! This will give me enough time to save up Airmiles for more free park hoppers and we'll be somewhere warm for the holidays! December 23-30 at the Desert Inn & Suites! WooT!

Excellent! Let the Airmiles quest begin:moped: Do you live down east?

Honestly, that's the most exciting piece of what I saw in yesterday's announcement. :rotfl:

I sure hope so. Are any of the PPP floats really tall?

So PTN coming back is a sure thing? On the one hand, that's good news, but on the other hand, it probably means one more thing I need to do a dinner package for. :rotfl:
(I'm already planning on doing a dinner package for both Fantasmic and WOC - good thing I'm going solo!)

It's definitely coming back, but it's heading to DCA and not to DL. It sounds like the ETA for it is 2018, while the Pixar Play Parade will head to Disneyland at that point (which makes no sense, since Pixar Pier is opening in DCA in 2018!).

It won't be back for the holiday season?....sad

It was so hard to tell -- I don't think it will be back for the holidays, but who knows? The way certain things were brought up at the Expo (I watched it on Periscope as it was happening) left some questions and blanks that need to be filled in. For example, the concept of Pixar Pier has people confused -- I think that most people think that it is the entire land of Paradise Pier that will become Pixar Pier, whereas I was leaning more towards just a section of the land becoming Pixar Pier. Some things were not explained very well in the presentations, and then there was also a guy talking over some of the audio and I was trying to hear what was being said, despite his interference!:rotfl:

To me, it sounded like the plan was for Paint the Night to return in 2018, at which point it will appear in DCA -- with a new float -- but that it wouldn't be back this year. Then, the Pixar Play Parade will head over to DL.

However, does that mean that the Christmas Fantasy Parade will once again be shown at night during the holidays, like it used to be? Or will the Electrical Parade get another extension and stick around for the holidays?

I saw the MSEP twice during its return and I gotta say - I was yaaaawning throughout it. Of course it's cute and nostalgic but it's gotta go. They need the Christmas parade at night!! I saw it in November and towards the end of it, dusk was descending and it was already so much more magical in the glow of dusk. We did the Holiday Tour so we got hot cocoa with our seats and it just all didn't feel right!!

Yeah, I was watching it on YouTube and they were being very broad and vague and not nailing anything down other than the Pier getting the Pixar makeover for the summer of 2018.

I would be happy with either the Christmas Fantasy parade or an extension of the Electrical Light parade, a win in my book whichever we get.

What is the holiday tour?

It was a 2.5 hour tour that took you through both parks and focused on the holiday celebrations. It used to include the holiday overlay rides but didn't last year which was disappointing. The tour was too slow moving for me and our guide (bless her heart, I certainly don't mean to be rude) was new and just so nervous and stumbled over all her words and would pause for long periods trying to remember what she was supposed to say. I have ADHD pretty bad and I found I had to keep "taking breaks" and leaving the group for a few minutes. But then it's finished off with seating for the Christmas parade, in actual seats, and we got a big gingerbread cookie and hot chocolate in a souvenir mug, and a really neat pin.

It would almost be worth it for the reserved seating and cookie/hot chocolate for the parade ...almost

Oh, and for any of you who will be in the parks the last week of November and are doing PTRs or want to do a meet-up please let me know. Huzzah for DISBuds :thumbsup2

We did the tour several years ago and it was definitely worth it when it included the 3 rides. We scheduled for a very busy park day and felt like that saved us enough time to be willing to give up the hours in the parks. Now without the rides I'd have a much harder time justifying it.

Oh yes, it they included some of the bigger rides I'd jump at it in a heartbeat.

It is almost worth it. Honestly, if I could figure out a way to pass on the tour and just show up for this, I think I'd pay for it for my kids. But I can't think of way where it wouldn't be totally rude! Here's some photos:

The adorable pin...

The gingerbread cookie. It was delicious!!

Oh! And the way it was timed, we got to stay in our seats and watch the lighting of Its a Small World! It was awesome!!

Yeah, they probably wouldn't go for having you just show up at the end :rotfl2:

The perks are still kind of cool, and a unique experience for sure. I think we can afford one special event and I'm thinking more of the Fantasmic! Desert viewing. I wish they had the behind the scenes steam train tour at Disneyland.
