Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough

Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she’s thrilled she finally connected with someone.

When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar…who says the kiss was a terrible mistake but who still can’t keep his eyes off Louise.

And then Louise bumps into Adele, who’s new to town and in need of a friend, but she also just happens to be married to David. David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife, but then why is David so controlling, and why is Adele so scared of him?

As Louise is drawn into David and Adele’s orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong, but Louise can’t guess how wrong―and how far a person might go to protect their marriage’s secrets.

I'm obviously way (waayyy) too late to join for 2017 but I'm jumping in on this thread so I can join the 2018 challenge when it begins!

#17 Into the Water -by Paula Hawkins

I really liked The Girl on the Train, in part because of the confusion of the main character and how her blackouts allowed you to be confused and not really sure of everything. The other main character you were in the head of was trying to deduct her husband odd actions and gain the confusion is acceptable because it is a traumatic event that you would build questions you would dwell on and ask over nd over. The last character is cool and you are wondering how she will relate to it all.
In Into the Water you are once again very much inside the heads of people, but this time just about everybody in town. In fact I think at one point I was in the head of some dude walking his dog, and he's like what are you doing here I am not even in this story.
Luckily for me I already have enough voices in my head to follow along with the many character changes.
The even bigger problem is not only are in everybody's head but they are all confused, only there confusion is not understandable here the only possibility is everybody is neurotic. So I was just pretty much annoyed and confused in the head of a bunch of neurotics through a pretty lame mystery.

My stupid Goodreads review here - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2247456938?book_show_action=false&from_review_page=1

If anyone is interested, I would gladly send a kindle gift version of any of my works “Written for You”, “Three Twigs for the Campfire”, “Cemetery Girl” or “Reigning”. You can see them all reviewed at Goodreads. If you are interested in reading any just message me.

WEEKS 50 & 51 (because I missed posting last week) I read 7 books during the two weeks which brings me to 206/208. The books I read were:

Risking Love by Brenda S. Anderson - Christian romantic fiction with happy ending.

Winter Secrets by Lyn Cote - Christian romantic fiction with happy ending.

The Christmas Secret by Wanda Brunsetter - Christian romantic fiction with happy ending.

Fatal Frost by Nancy Mehl - Christian mystery/romance fiction with a fair amount of violence, blood and gore but with a happy ending.

Dinner At the Homesick Restaurant by Anne Tyler - interesting story of a dysfunctional family that still manages to function. Quite awhile ago I had read and enjoyed her book, Accidental Tourist so I picked this up when I came across it. I liked this book less than that one.

The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See. Fiction. Set in very rural China from the early communist years through the recent Olympics. The story follows a young girl and her child. She has the child in secret and gives her up to an orphanage. The child is adopted to the US. Their two stories weave together over the years until mother and daughter are reunited when the daughter comes to rural China while doing post graduate research.

Tender Love by Juliette Duncan - 1st book in the True Love Series of Christian romantic fiction with the standard happy ending.

#45/60

If I'm Found by Terri Blackstock

Is Dylan hunting Casey to prosecute her or protect her?

Casey Cox is still on the run, fleeing prosecution for a murder she didn’t commit. Dylan Roberts—her most relentless pursuer—is still on her trail, but his secret emails insist that he knows the truth and wants to help her. He’s let her escape before when he had her in his grasp, but trust doesn’t come easily.
As Casey works to collect evidence about the real murderers, she stumbles on another unbearable injustice: an abused child and a suicidal man who’s also been falsely accused. Casey risks her own safety to right this wrong and protect the little girl from her tormenters. But doing so is risky and just may result in her capture—and if she’s captured, she has no doubt she’ll be murdered before she ever steps foot in a jail.
In this riveting sequel to the USA Today bestseller If I Run, evil lurks, drawing Casey out of the shadows . . . but there is light shining in the darkness. Is Dylan a provision from the God who loves her, or another heartache yet to happen?

This one was very good! A sequel to If I Run and book three to be released in the spring of 2018.

Well it is Dec 28 so doubtful that I'll finish another book this year so I'm at 45 of 60. I haven't met my goal for the year and didn't last year either. Having a lull as to finding books that will hold my interest. My favorite authors write too slow, lol.
Looking forward to a 2018 challenge!

18 of 20: Secrets in Death by J. D. Robb

A new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series: Lt. Eve Dallas must separate rumors from reality when a woman who traffics in other people’s secrets is silenced.

The chic Manhattan nightspot Du Vin is not the kind of place Eve Dallas would usually patronize, and it’s not the kind of bar where a lot of blood gets spilled. But that’s exactly what happens one cold February evening.

The mortally wounded woman is Larinda Mars, a self-described “social information reporter,” or as most people would call it, a professional gossip. As it turns out, she was keeping the most shocking stories quiet, for profitable use in her side business as a blackmailer. Setting her sights on rich, prominent marks, she’d find out what they most wanted to keep hidden and then bleed them dry. Now someone’s done the same to her, literally—with a knife to the brachial artery.

Eve didn’t like Larinda Mars. But she likes murder even less. To find justice for this victim, she’ll have to plunge into the dirty little secrets of all the people Larinda Mars victimized herself. But along the way, she may be exposed to some information she really didn’t want to know…

One of the better more recent books in the "In Death" series. Instead of having to deal with a deranged psycho or be on a clock to prevent another murder, etc., this is a pretty straight forward case. I liked the actual mystery aspect of uncovering the truth about the victim. 4 out of 5.

I guess I would have to say the Narnia series books were my favorite this year. And 'Kept Woman' by Karin Slaughter.
Had a really off year as to finding a really good read.
