Sat am flight for us too and I see you're also from MA. Which airport are you flying out of?

We are actually flying out of Hartford, which is 2 hour drive. We've never done this before, we live fairly close to Logan.....but it was going to $800 total less to fly Hartford than Logan.

We did the exact same thing quite a few years ago. I wasn’t a fan of the drive to Hartford though. I think the flights are cheaper bc CT has a different vacation week???

I was wondering if that was the reason. Some people from my neighborhood are flying out of JFK to save money. My BFF and her family are joining us for the beach part of this trip. They are flying out of Providence, but that was still pretty pricey. We are flying in and out of Tampa bc the beach part of the vacation is at the beginning and end (WDW is the middle days).
Are you going out of Logan?

I got most of my outside the house errands done today. Tomorrow I will officially pack, get the house situated for my cousin to cat sit, and do all the rest of the prep.

Side note: I have a super short connection in Philly on Sat and the gates are super far apart. I'm kind of freaking out a bit. Originally, I had 90 min, but airline changed times. I called today, but there are no options to switch to. So fingers crossed.....

@ddluvsdisney Did you say you are driving from Mass tomorrow? We have never braved that - is this your first time? What's your plan of attack?

We’re driving bc the flights were ridiculous!! When we fly we do Providence bc it’s closer to us. We’ve driven quite a few times now... only in April bc it’s most expensive time to fly.

I posted before I saw your question. This will be our 6th time driving I think. We used to do it in 2 days- stopping overnight in NC. But now my DH prefers to go straight through the night. It’s not my favorite but he does the majority of the driving. I could never stay up through the night to drive. I take over around 6 am when we stop for breakfast.

Wow, 6 times! Yeah I couldn't do the stay up all night thing bc I'd be a grouch. I can't sleep in cars either. I need a bed, eye mask, sound machine to sleep, lol. When you would stop in NC - How was that? Like 12 hours one day and 12 hours the next?

I hate paying April vacation airfare. Have been contemplating driving trips for next year. I feel like it would be ok with just adults, but I think my kids would be some nightmare version of "Are we there yet?"

About that. A little less the second day.
It’s the DC/ Virginia traffic that just kills ya!
That’s why driving through the night is so much better. If we stop, it takes like 22 hrs. If we drive straight it’s more like 19-20 hrs.

2 days for me!! Ahh! Does anyone else get super anxious in the days leading up to the travel day? I don't mind flying but the whole process of getting to the airport, getting our bags checked, going through security and boarding the plane (and finding a seat with Southwest) totally stresses me out. I will breathe a sigh of relief once we are sitting on the plane!

The part I get super stressed about is car seats. Remove them from our car, install them in a taxi or Uber, get them out of that vehicle, get them checked in, pick them up, install them in the rental car and then do it all again. However, this is our first trip we won't have to worry about this, so I'm feeling fine.

Yes, that is the glory of MDE. I remember being so grateful for it when mine were in car seats. My younger son still uses a butt booster, but those are super easy to deal with.

Direct flights are so expensive on vacation weeks! It feels really unfair to families. Although about now I'm wishing I paid out the nose for a direct flight bc this 40 min connection has me so stressed bc gates are opposite ends of airport!! Yikes!

We leave Sunday. Would love for the workday to end! Although I did receive an email from the airline about the storms we’re expecting over the weekend. I hope we can get the heck out of here!
