Getting canned over racist language

So, pick any other term meant exclusively as an insult & apply it to my statement. Are we going to ban any & all insulting terms because they have the potential to be used in a political manner?
It isn’t that SJW can be used in a political manner. It is a political insult.

It’s not excuses. The COMPANY is not racist. The COMPANY has made no racist remarks or actions. It is one man and he has been removed.

Health care is a different thing. They are within the law to not provide it because most of their employees are not full time. They usually work 35 hours or less and so it doesn’t have to be provided. Besides how many food service workers do you know that could afford it anyway? If you want them to offer it, then the pay will have to go up and we are right back at raising prices.

Ah baloney. Excuse, deflect, yada yada.

No, because it doesn’t refer to one’s political leanings. It applies to one’s actions, and one can be a victim or perpetrator regardless of one’s political ideals.

Argument by redefining a word inconsistent with its definition in the real world. Interesting.

So you feel the same about everyone's views?

If it's the "free from government interference" part, yes. Someone can't be arrested for saying what John Schnatter did on that conference call in the context in which he used the word. Use the same word directed at his restaurant against an employee, then it's a different case. At the least they have the right to tell someone to leave. At the worst police could remove someone for disorderly conduct.

But simply expressing one's views on a message board via some sort of media is protected by law. That doesn't mean that the provider can't censor it or has to respect it. If I used the word that Schatter said on DIS, I would expect a swift punishment, although I suspect it's probably one of the words that are built into the auto-censoring system. If I tried to get around it by using dashes or some other work-around, I'd think that it would be removed quickly and I might even get banned without a warning. That word is a neutron bomb on many forums.

HEY! WATCH IT! I actually enjoyed the rectangle cafeteria pizza at school. It was definitely better than PJ's crap! :teeth:
I know ours was pretty good most of the time. But to my tastes, if it had too much sauce, and been sitting there too long (last few pieces of a tray), that’s when it got nasty.

PJ’s has done weird things after I was done with it (kwim). No other school, store bought or pizzeria pizzas have done it.

Oh please. First off, PP made no mention whatsoever of politics in her original (and lengthy) objection to the word. And it’s not at all necessary to disagree with someone politically to still refer to them as a SJW in an insulting manner.

Here’s my story. A few years back, my cousin’s partner threw a 50th birthday party for my cousin (side note, though now married, they still refer to themselves as partners). My uncle, to my dad, said, “Can you believe we have to go to a party for those two gays?”. My dad then chewed him out. I agree with him chewing out my uncle, and specifically with what he said (that my cousin & her partner are two of the finest people we know).

What Dad DIDN’T do was call my uncle out at a family gathering for something said in private, and he didn’t cause trouble at my uncle’s church or employer. Nothing good could have come from that, and had he done so, I would not have looked favorably on that type of SJW action despite lining up 100% with his opinion of what my uncle said.

Have you ever worked in food services? Ever tried to support a family working in food service? Please tell me how you would have afforded an extra of any amount coming out of your measley check for health insurance.

When you have been there, done that then tell me how it’s excuses. Just because you want it to be a certain way doesn’t mean it is. Simply wanting something that sounds good and makes you feel better about a company dose not make it better for the actual real life employees.

As for PaPa John’s and the racist CEO, boycott away. No skin off my nose. But for the one here, I simply don’t see how boycotting and endangering the jobs of a group of college kids is really going to do anything. But whatever helps you sleep at night is the choice you should make.

Maybe it is not true where you live, but around here there are more jobs than college kids. I can't think of a business I go by that doesn't have a Help Wanted sign up.

But, whatever helps you sleep at night.

I was trying to leave politics out of it. I was unsuccessful.

You're the one reaching now. That would not be a "SJW action". That would be being a big jerk to a family member.

We have two universities and two community colleges in our immediate area. The two universities are in the city limits. So no there aren’t more jobs than college kids.

Sounds like someone needs justification. If you truly feel that your morals are telling you not to buy their pizza why do you need justification?

.

We both know who gets called SJW and who does the calling. And we both know like I said up thread it's just a phrase those that want to turn a blind eye to things call those that don't.

Just Maybe they could raise minimum wage, you think, but you'll have an excuse or a deflection why the corporations don't need to do that even tho they are making record profits, like Walmart and fast food restaurants which aren't that cheap by the way. I never said anything about boycotting at all one way or the other, I said making excuses or deflecting for racist behavior, making excuses for not paying healthcare, making excuses for why the wealthiest need more t__ breaks, could go on and on, making excuses for ugly rhetoric, bla bla bla anything to help the corporations who are making record profits chit on the little guy and blame it all on the "others". You really want to go there. We could but this would get thrown out. So I better stop.

Except no one made excuses for his behavior. And no one said anything about making the rich guy richer. A bit salty there are we?

You want the employers to have to pay for health care? Probably not going to happen. Very few do now. Mine pays for mine but at the cost of lower pay of other employers. Most of my co workers stay for the benefits not the pay. If my income was not considered more of “extra” to our budget, I wouldn’t have been able to stay there.

As for raising minimum wage, lol, see you assume you know what someone’s opinion is when you actually do not. I do think it should be raised. Have for a long time.

Not sure who you think pays minimum wage but Walmart is one that gets their employees above that fairly quickly. Chick Fil A pays over minimum. Dominos also pays over minimum. And the fact still remains that most of their employees would not be able to afford to pay for health insurance if the company offered it.

I feel for the local franchise owners in this whole debacle. The founder and CEO stepped in a big pile of you know what with his comments. He's out, but I'm sure he'll be just fine financially.

He's only half out. He still owns a huge chunk of stock.

It's possible to feel bad for them too isn't it?

I'll be honest - the franchise owners are the ones I feel for, because they have so much invested and so much at risk, but the workers? Not so much. The pizza places around me have such turn over that odds are any one person employed at Papa John's today will be working somewhere else by Christmas whether or not there is a downturn in sales at their stores. Food service is a high turnover industry where employees are viewed as expendable and interchangeable... and for most, the jobs are too. If Papa John's closes, there's always a help wanted sign at Jets or Hungry Howies or Dominos.

The difference is, that was something said in private among family... not in public or in the workplace. I don't think people should be called out publicly for things said in the privacy of a conversation between brothers, but when a person chooses to say these things to employees/coworkers, or put them in a public forum IRL or online, he shouldn't be surprised when there is an equally public reaction.

High turn over and interchangeable depends on the area. McDonalds is about the only one hiring on a constant basis here. Some of the others may be hiring at the end of summer due to college or high school kids leaving due to school. But those positions get taken pretty quick.

The 3 pizza chains here, Dominos, Pizza Hut and Papa John’s do not have a high turn over and are not always hiring. Because all three have delivery drivers, leaving a job at PaPa John’s and going to McDonalds or any other fast food place isn’t going to be equal.

Dd is at Dominoes now as a driver part time. She averages 12 an hour with tips and mileage when driving. She couldn’t do that at another fast food place. So there is a reason those drivers want to hang on to their jobs.

True. However, he directed it be named after the company and not himself. Not sure how that works since it would seem to be a business transaction on behalf of the company. This is a really tangled legal web, isn't it?

I suppose there's some clause in the naming rights contract that says U of Louisville can cancel and return the $$$ donation he made to the school.

You can be anything you want on the net. Ultimately, a post stands or falls on its own merit. And that you're having to post all this to try and gain credibility, whether true or not, tells us one thing. It tells us that you know your posts were not standing on their own merit.
You really shouldn't judge other people by your own standards.
The thought of fabricating a story about my Family diversity is a totally alien concept and something that I would never even contemplate.
My reputation for honesty in our community is unquestioned, whether on the street, or in the Court Rooms.
I'll just have to make allowances for your rude behavior and crude attempt at insulting me and ignore you in the future.
Bye onion dude.

I suppose there's some clause in the naming rights contract that says U of Louisville can cancel and return the $$$ donation he made to the school.

It certainly made it easier in that it was a personal donation, so he could personally give permission to void the contract. Other than this, I've never heard of a corporate name attached to a venue that was paid for with an individual donation.

The other similar cases where a name or advertisement was removed was because it was intensely embarassing. However, those had to be approved and took some time. Remember Enron Field? In San Francisco there was big Enron sign on the center field scoreboard, and they had to negotiate to get that removed. Also - the online grocery service Webvan went out of business but every cupholder in the stadium had a Webvan sticker.

And just for clarity, I agree that word should never be used.
My point is only the hypocrisy that a Baker has support to refuse to bake a cake because they are homophobic because they have a right to their beliefs, but a Baker csnt refuse to bake a cake because they are racist-even though that is their belief.
If people feel that their beliefs entitle them to discriminate, why is one ok and the other not, the law should protect everyone from discrimination no matter what their beliefs are.
