Do you answer your cell phone if the call is not from a contact?

I have to. My cell phone is our business phone. I get at least 4 robo calls a day. I just hang up as soon as I hear any recorded message.

Only 4 people have my cell phone number, and all of them have blocked IDs. So if a number comes up, I know it is a wrong number and I let it go to voicemail.
My cell phone is only for emergency incoming calls from my family, when they can't reach me on my work or home landline.

But the entire reason I got my cell phone back in 1990 was because I work, and sleep funny hours, and I needed to be able to give out a phone number.....my landline.....that people could call and leave a message without disturbing me....but my family would still be able to wake me up in an emergency. I guess I could get a second cell phone, but just keeping the landline is cheaper and easier. And the landline never needs charging.

No. I give everyone that may need to call me (doctor, pharmacy, financial institutions, etc.) DH's number, instead of mine. He has to answer his phone for work anyway. I let him filter my calls. Yes, I'm a fantastic wife. Obviously, he's a very lucky man.

Very rarely do I answer the phone if I don't know who's calling. Sometimes I will if I'm in a feisty mood and I'll mess with them, but that is incredibly rare. I did answer an unknown number today. It was from Kissimmee. It was DVC. I know DH will never say yes, but it was nice to dream.

no. If it's important they will leave voicemail and then I will know who it is and call them back if I need to.

No, but that doesn't mean I'm not annoyed by telemarketing calls. They still make my phone ring.

Pointless to block any of the numbers too because every single call always comes from a different number.

I usually answer. Occasionally it has been a doctor's office or one of the kid's schools, but mostly it's stupid stuff.

I said "no" I don't answer unknown numbers & leave it up to DH to filter calls, but you bring up a good point. When my DS was young, I answered every call. It could have been a teacher or parent who happened to be there at the time calling in an emergency. It didn't matter that is wasn't the main school number, when it came to my child. Any call may have been a very important call.

I will look to see the number first before I decide as I use mine for a lot of work calls and I'm on a couple of Non-Profit Boards and a Service club. If the number isn't local then it's straight to voicemail. Local numbers, I know the prefixes that are most commonly used by the VOIP phone banks and ignore them. But lately with AT&T they are faking the phone numbers, several times I've had a call from somebody shortly after I get a spam call and the person says, "I just got a call from this number." We usually have a nice chat when I explain what I think is happening since they've had the same type o calls too.

I usually only answer an unfamiliar number if I'm expecting a business call (like I dropped something off at a repair shop) or if I have reason to believe it might be DS or DH without their own phone in an emergency.

I do not answer the phone if you are not on my contact list - unless I am expecting a call from someone who would not normally be on my contact and won't be added either - waiting for an estimate, if an item is in, etc. If I don't recognize/remember the number from that person I am waiting for, I just let it go to voicemail.

Anyone leaving a message (many times sounds Asian) - I block it immediately.

I also don't answer the phone at home if I don't recognize the number/company.

Since I get so many calls saying I have either won a vacation, need some kind of insurance, or extended warranty I generally do not. If it is important, they will leave a voicemail. Some have left voicemails in Chinese.

If I have time I do. I need to answer calls from coworkers, and I don't have all of their numbers programmed into my phone. Some of them don't change numbers when they move here, so I can't go by area codes. So, if I have a moment, I'll answer the phone. If it's a robo call, I hang up (two button pushes). If I sent them to voice mail, at the time I'm ready to listen to voice mail, I have to get to the ap (swipe), open it (push), select the one to listen to (push), oh it's a robo, delete (push). It's actually quicker to answer the phone.

But, if I'm in the middle of something, I don't answer.

It depends. If there was something going on that meant the call could be important I might. For examples if I was in the middle of a job search.

Normally anyone I would need would leave a message through (like the car rental place when they found an issue)

LOL. See the previous threads about the trend among people who do not leave a voicemail, and never listen to their own voicemail. They just keep calling until someone answers.

Nope. But that's why I keep a landline, so I have a number to give out. Totally worth $5/month (the amount my Verizon would go down if I dropped it). Every internet order wants a number, so I have one to give out. I turn the ringer off for my home number unless I'm expecting something, like this weekend when I had a new mattress delivered.

If I ever ended up giving up my landline, I'd get a prepaid cell to have a phone # to give out for doctors, purchases, hotels, etc.
