What is the worst thing a guest has done in your home?

Kind of silly, but made me really uncomfortable - BIL (DHs sisters husband) washed and folded ALL our laundry while we were at work. It was a very nice gesture, but he kept talking about folding my underwear and comparing it (style, color, etc) to his wife's. :o
Ok that’s a little odd and makes me think he did the laundry just so he had an excuse to go though your underwear.

In laws came and we let them have our bedroom while we slept on the pull out sofa. They brought their dog and he slept in our bedroom too, even though our own dog was never allowed upstairs. Their dog had fleas! They hatched out all over our bedroom after they left and since our dog was not allowed up there the fleas were biting me! We had to “bomb” the whole house with these spraying flea bombs and stay away for 24 hours.

My MIL has been known to raid our freezer, and take stuff home:crazy2: . Years ago, one of my BIL's decided to go outside (they were staying with us) around 7 in the morning, in his "tighty-whities", and use the bathroom in our new landscaping. He left the toilet paper there. For the record, we had two bathrooms, and one was available.
We lived in a development at the time...can you imagine driving by and seeing that?!?!? Well my husband saw it go down and was in SHOCK! He told his little brother, and they decided not to tell me. One day, a year or two after we had moved from that house, they told me about it. It's probably been 10 years now and I still can't believe he did that and it still ticks me off to this day! Thankfully we don't live near any of them..

Ok I just have to know, how old was your BIL? I’m thinking he must have been a child because what adult would do that? You said 7am so likely not drunk? So many questions lol!

Well, he was at the time a heavy drinker, although this behavior was not exactly out of the realm of his normal, so I wasn't shocked! I'd say he was in his early 40's at the time.

Years ago we'd saved for a long time to buy new Formica countertops. We'd only had them a few days when an overnight guest cut bagels for breakfast directly on the countertop, leaving several big knife marks in it.

A child visiting our home left a downstairs bathroom faucet running, which we discovered when the floor became flooded.

DD had a boyfriend in HS that was very "physical". He liked to lock people out of doors and tackle them, etc. As a result, several of our doors and locks were broken, including a pocket door that came off it's track and a slider lock that hasn't been right since, and he left a hole in a wall.

It’s weird the first few times, for sure. I also close it most of the time, or at least make an attempt. I’ll push it on my way in and if it doesn’t close all the way and catch the latch, I’m not too fussy lol
Lots of people are not near so uptight about it and that's fine - I think there have been threads and polls in times past about "actively" sharing the washroom with a spouse or child. It's just just a particular hang-up of mine. I remember having a really hard time when DS was a toddler and had to come in with me. :o

I would have wanted to leave "several big knife marks" on the guest over that one. :furious:

Confession time: As a teenager I damaged the top of my sister's expensive oak end table with nail polish remover. She flipped and I didn't blame her but unfortunately I had no means to make good on it. :sad1:

I don't know if this counts as IN the home:

my grandmother, they have rural woodsy property all around their house. So upon moving in, they meet the next-door neighbors, who were all nice and everything until the Mrs..... well... she indicated her need for the facilities, and Grandma offered her facilities in the home, as you might do for a guest. But the Mrs., ummmm she said, "Oh no honey, that's what we have woods for," and trotted off into the underbrush!
It was a very short conversation after she returned from her respite, shall we say...

yuk- don't know which is worse- an overflowing toilet or carpeting in a bathroom- carpeting in the bathroom is nasty.
My first thought was the overflow was so bad it went out into the hallway which had carpet. However my in-laws bought a house that had carpeting in the powder room, they tore that out real quick after they moved in.

Our long-term guest wouldn't return dishes to kitchen but instead hid them under bed or in drawers with half eaten food. Food and makeup ground into carpet. Her dogs were not house broken. Completely trashed bedroom. Unplugged sump pump because it was bothering her sleep....flooded basement with several inches of water. When she left, there were maggots underneath all her sh*t she left. She stole many items and sold them. She stole DD9's $40 that she made during garage sale. Last straw was when she stole from her Grandmother...completely emptied her bank account and stole all her jewelry. We put up with her as long as we did because of her grandmother who lived with us and was a wonderful woman. We had to tear out carpet and repaint the room. So much for trying to help her.

Our first house had "shag" carpet in one bathroom and indoor-outdoor carpet in the other. We replaced it all as soon as we could afford it. We got the house for a really good price though.

I guess this doesn't really count as a "guest," but I came home from work one night to find a recliner moved into the middle of my living room. Suitcases (we were packing for Disney that week) were moved, my husband's watch collection case was knocked over, and someone had "used" our toilet and not flushed it. Nothing appeared to be missing, just everything was knocked over or moved. It was apparent from the haphazard blinds and otherwise locked doors and windows that someone had crawled in through my accidentally unlocked front window. My husband was out of town and I was terrified, called my police officer BIL for help (as well as 911) and spent the night at my sister's house until my husband came home. My neighbor thankfully had security footage of a car parked outside our house that day...it ended up being my DH's aunt that we have seen about twice in 7 years. When he called her, she said "oh yeah, you had given me a key and my granddaughter had to go to the bathroom after her soccer game near your house." NO ONE has a key to our house but us, she crawled through a WINDOW, and there are about 10 stores closer to the soccer fields than our house where the kid could have gone to the bathroom instead of breaking into our home without telling us. It was the weirdest thing I've ever been through, and I've never seen my husband so angry with a family member.

That's bizarre! Why would anyone move furniture, suitcases and watch case if all they needed was a bathroom break? Weird! And dang! Flush the toilet!

:sad2: People can be SO BIZARRE. There's practically nothing that would surprise me. If I were you though I wouldn't have rested until the perp explained why on God's good earth she moved the recliner.

It's been almost 20 years and still haven't forgotten this. Husband's niece house sat while we went to WDW and she had an overnight guest. Candles everywhere, booze sitting on the kitchen counters and a carefully hidden bag of heavy gold chains and some of my Mom's jewelry GONE. I looked for it for several of weeks before I finally had to admit it had been stolen.
