For the M & T bank bonus, once I make my $500 DD, how long do I need to leave it sit there and when I send the request to change my checking acct to the basic to avoid the fees? This just seems too easy for $250. I am just for my test deposits to clear so I can complete the setup with my CU and make the transfer.
If the DD works the bonus posts within one to two business days. They waive the first month fee, so you don't have to rush to change if you don't want to. But most on r/churning report asking to change within a few days of the bonus posting. I didn't feel that ruthless so I waited a bit and changed it this week. I pulled nearly all the money out a few days after the bonus posted, there's no requirement to hold it for any time.

Latest DPs suggest it doesn't even matter if you change up the (middle) name. Check the thread on DISchurners about this. You're right that CIP#2 is 50k URs more. I would prioritize that since you value URs because a loophole like this won't last forever. The CIC and CIU aren't going anywhere.

@Lain sorry for all my questions. I'm possibly interested in CIP#2 (for myself). I take it this wouldn't increase my 2/5 count? How do I get it? CIP#1 was obtained in September (or October -- sorry I cannot remember) with my business name (which is my first and last name + 2 other words for my business -- which is legit). If it matters my business bank account is at Chase and it is active. I had somewhat of a hard time getting the CIP -- had to send Chase the Fictitious Name cert. for my business and some cheque stubs {made out to the business} to prove it was legit. Not sure I want to go down that path again as this time the business wouldn't be real (I only have 1 business!).

For CIP #2 I suggest just applying with your first and last name as the business name..nothing else...and your SS number as the EIN..

I could use some advise.

My wife and I will be spending the next 4 years saving up for a Mediterranean cruise for our 35th wedding anniversary. My plan is to buy a Disney gift card every month, which will come pretty close to paying for the cruise.

I'm thinking that it would be wise to use a new, dedicated credit card to buy these Disney gift cards each month. What I'd like to do is get a credit card that would accumulate miles with an airline, such as United (for international travel). The credit card would be used ONLY to buy a Disney gift card each month. When the credit card bill arrives, it would be paid off each month.

I'll confess that I've never participated in a program where air miles are accumulated, so I know absolutely nothing about it. But if I can use a credit card that would help offset the air fare to and from Europe, I would be foolish not to try.

So, credit card gurus, which credit cards do you recommend we investigate to accumulate as many air miles as possible over the next, four years?

I truly appreciate the experience and advice of all those willing to proverbally hold my hand through this.

I'm going to chime in here as well, I know @platamama and @calypso726 both replied. If you don't have interest in signing up for credit card bonuses with minimum spend requirements typically to spend x amount in 3 months, you would be better off opening a "high" interest saving account-Amex, Discover, Ally. Any of them with >2% interest and depositing the amount you would spend on the gift card each month. You would be "earning" something on the money and would also keep the money much more fluid, just in case your circumstances change or you end up wanting to go through a company other than disney. When you have a decent sum you could, wet your feet a little in this game and start working on opening bank accounts for bank bonus' which then you could pay for your airfare with, doc of credit has a great monthly list of the best bank bonuses. Just my two cents. We can help if you want to optimize opening new credit cards for the sign up bonuses to pay for your flights with more information, if you would be open to opening new cards and give information of what airline... You have plenty of time to work on opening new cards to be ready to pay for flights if you go this route.

That looks interesting! I’d like to hear your thoughts about it after you have used it in a trip.

I bought a spinner under-seat bag from TJ Maxx 2 years ago which has worked well for a trip to Japan and also for domestic trips. I forgot the brand though. I did stalk our local store for a few weeks before one showed up.
There was a spinner bag (not under seat though) but the spinner wheels take up a lot of room, making either not fit in the overhead, or a lot smaller actual packing space. I’m planning on using the new bag for our WDW trip in 2 weeks. We’ll be doing carryon only, so I’ll let you know. It actually looks like it will work well for a cheapie bag. It’s hard to tell from the website but there’s a dividing zipper partition once you open it to full size. So once it’s full carryon size, you can use it as one compartment or 2.

My kiddo’s favorite ice cream shop takes credit cards but doesn’t code as dining! WHY WOULDN’T AN ICE CREAM SHOP CODE AS DINING?!
Your kiddo has a favorite ice cream shop? I mean my kid likes the ice cream aisle at the grocery store...
Seriously, around here, we have Dairy Queen and Baskin-Robbins, maybe Culver’s if you count concrete mixers.

My dh’s parents were in a band for 15’ish years. My MIL was the lead singer and she went through her pregnancy, with my dh, still performing every night. My dh is named after the bar they played in every night lol. Once he was born they kept playing and she’d leave him in a bassinet with the bartender! I dont recommend that but apparently they’d get a lot of celebs in ( this was in LA) and they’d all take turns holding him lol!
That's really cool! I bet that's fun for your Dh to tell people. I'm not sure with Dh getting a new job how into our music we'll be, but I definitely won't stop playing at least by myself at home.

If you check on the DIS Unplugged podcast, they've been doing a series of "if you are thinking of relocating here" podcasts where each time they choose one small town and talk about it. That might be fun to listen to. :)

I'm sitting here laughing trying to imagine you being super nice while speaking in falsetto. :rotfl:

I always start out that way, but lately it hasn't been working so well. CIP call was yet another one when I finally lost it and asked for the guy's manager, who was able to do what the first guy said was impossible. I try so hard, but then I just lose my patience. :faint:

Aww, shucks. I still feel like a N00b here, and I still have so much to learn. And so many questions to ask. I'm just so grateful that this all might work out and we can actually visit our DD. I'm gonna miss her and don't want have a year go by without being able to see her.
That sounds really interesting! Thanks for telling me. I normally don't watch the podcasts, but I think I'll look into those.

They gave it up in the mid-80's after moving to TX. They had a good following in LA but with my FIL working FT, it became too hard to try to get established again. They do still play at home and lately, they've been paying to have their old recordings cleaned up so they can share them out. I can tell you that it's a fun story to tell but it was not a good life for a kid. My dh was in bars many nights being watched over by servers. He'd sit in a booth or at a table and color or play. His parents frequently closed the bar down so they may not be going home until 3am.

I just listen to them when I'm out walking, but I think watching would make more sense for this. It says which city when you look them up, so you could just watch the ones that were made for towns of interest. Nice to get a local perspective, I think.

Looks like the news just came out today. Online application, estimated cost $8, good for 3 years. So not as bad as I initially thought.

Just such a pain, since it means you really have to plan in advance. It's not the money so much as the long process that I find annoying. I'm really glad we are planning for 2019 & 2020 since it's unlikely I'd want to return for a while after that.

From what I read it'll maybe take you 20 min to fill out the online form, it's not really a visa like if you are going to china or other countries. It's just reciprocating what the US requires of those coming here from Europe. I wouldn't wait until you got to the airport to do it but you could probably do it while you're waiting to catch your flight if needed.

So my Niece is an AU on my oldest card (1996-before she was born) and recently had to have her credit pulled for a rental at college. The landlord (who rents to college students) had never seen a 20 YO with a credit score so high. It was funny.

Sometimes...I try to have fun and enjoy OT discussions on other threads...hoping that we can get a little sense of that community going...

And then people are rude, nobody laughs, and the mods remove my posts. It's saddens me...

It truly is one of the best parts of this thread. That and the tolerance to let everyone do their own thing without criticism. It makes it a true community. The churner tips are the whipped cream and cherry on top. A whole can of whipped cream. ;)
