Popping in to report that Diamond status pays off and Hilton does so well on the customer service front. Dinner reservations for Ithaa were fully booked. We managed to get lunch reservations on Saturday though. While we were enjoying our complimentary breakfast at Atoll Marketplace the hostess for Ithaa came by to welcome us to the property and asked about our stay. I mentioned we were on the waitlist as they were fully booked. She called the manager and managed to work some magic and we now have reservations for this evening. Yay!!!

The most surprising thing of all is what I found at the boutique this morning and why I am posting it here. It’s a Disney board and y’all (well most of y’all) will understand why I am so excited! I found a print dress with Mickey Mouse and destinations of different countries with their respective maps! I normally don’t wear dresses but this was too cute to pass up. We are using our Aspire card and charging everything to the room so I should get somewhere between 14 and 34 points per dollar depending on how the Aspire card bonus and Diamond status kicker shake out.

Here’s the Disney/Travel hacking mash up dress. #whenworldscollide

Love your dress. It’s super cute. I get the shark thing. Me feet don’t touch the bottom unless I can see it. So my husband carts me around if he wants me to go out in the ocean.

It’s our 10 year this year and we always talked about doing a big trip since our honeymoon was just a quick 3 days in savannah. Where are we going this year? Disney with the kids
That’s what we did for our ten year. We planned a trip with just us then was like it’s only $600 more to bring them let’s just do that. So now here we are. We have taken them to Florida every year since 2012. Brats expect it now. :rotfl2:

It’s about 4 feet deep according to DH. Too deep for me to venture in past the steps. Earlier I saw this little guy at another part of the beach. He swam by singing “Baby shark doo doo doo doo doo doo” while I was watching and singing “Holy crap doo doo doo doo doo doo” so there’s like zero chance of me going in the water now.

You call this an irrational fear...

Ummmm Seems RATIONAL to me!! :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

AFs posted on my Amex Green and Schwab Plat. No offers on either one, but that wasn't surprising. Cancelled both. End of quite a year for me with the Schwab Plat - I cashed out hundreds of thousands of MRs between sign-up bonuses and support clicks. It was a good run! I stopped using all my Amex MR cards a couple of months ago so all of the pending points would post by the time the AF posted, so everything has been cashed out. I have less than 100 MR pending on future statements, so I think I timed that pretty well.

Onto the next chapter!
During this time of loss...I figured it may help if I share my "ode to the Schwab Plat" from a couple years ago:
Today is a somewhat sad churning day for me. My annual fee has posted on my AMEX Schwab Plat...$550. :(

Schwab Plat...you've been so good to me over the past 12 months. You've been with me thru good times and bad. You've given me free TSA Precheck, $400 in Southwest gift cards, and High Level Status with Hilton, Marriott and Starwood. Most importantly, You've given me over $4,900 in cash by redeeming MRs at $0.0125 per point. :worship:

You may soon be gone but you will not soon be forgotten. :thumbsup2

Oh my goodness!!! I wouldn’t get in either with him, even though he is just swimming and singing “Baby shark doo doo doo doo doo”! What if “Grandma shark doo doo doo doo” is also swimming nearby :scared1:

This weekend I need to really go through all my bank accounts and work on closing the ones I no longer need. Some are just not worth keeping. 5/3rd is trying to charge me $3 to transfer money out. Ummmh, I don't think so. I'll go to the branch and withdraw in person before I pay that fee. PNC is wonky and says my password is not working. I need to find some info so I can reset it. Once I do that, I'll change to the fee free version and leave only 500 there. The transfers from PNC take a long time (in my opinion) to go through. And I had to answer like 3 questions before it would work. I am all for security but really. I want to just transfer once I set up the external account. There is no way I'll keep this account around long-term.

I'll keep DH's Chase for a little while since it will work for a DD push. As much as I do not like PNC's online set up and security, I may still try to open another account for the bonus for DH.

Yeah, I couldn't be rid of my HSBC account quick enough - reading sketchy stuff about them in the news, charging me for transfers (not OK!) and a sucky website... was almost not worth the $300 I took them for

This is pretty much my DH
Let’s go to Disney
Ok
It’s our 30th anniversary. Let’s try an AK cruise
Ok
Maybe we should try NCL
No, Disney
Extent of conversation. I did ask him to plan some trip to National Parks this summer since DS is in 4th grade and admission is free. So far, crickets.

Ooooo- I forgot about the 4th grade free NPs thing. If it were up to my DH, we would just spend every vacation exploring the parks out west. We did a trip to UT last year (location suggested by him, planning by yours truly) and he LOVED it. When I asked where he really wanted to go, he just wanted to go back there. My teen, who is terrified of heights, did NOT enjoy that trip very much - there was a 1000 foot drop every time she turned around, so no NP trips with her along for at least another few years. I will promise DH a really good National Park trip in a few years when our little one is in 4th grade (when the teen will be in college!) and tell him he needs to find some city in Europe that sounds good to him.

Have you ever noticed that all of us that frequent this thread have WAY more likes than most people elsewhere on the DIS? Apparently we really enjoy encouraging and liking each other.
So I'm just rambling about "fake internet points" but there's a lot of reasons why this is the BEST corner of the DIS and maybe likes is the foundation of it all :thumbsup2 ::yes::

LOL - more likes actually wasn't the goal (but might be a result ;)) The SW thread just got me a little irked - I share that awesome chart of historical releases there, I answer questions...crickets! Most people here go above and beyond too, not only do we "like", we will actually quote and say THANK YOU. What a novel concept...thanking people for their help and contributions!

I actually feel bad when I have a busy day and skim the thread quickly to catch up and don't like a lot of things. I feel like I let my friends down

I think this is why we "like" so much more on this thread. We are participating in an actual conversation, so "liking" is kind of like nodding your head at the person talking. Maybe you don't have a comment to add, but you're just validating that you heard what the person said. Also, I care a lot more about the random comments from people I "know" than the motley collection of stuff on the general threads. I absolutely do like stuff I find helpful elsewhere, and will be certain to write a thank you if someone answers a direct question, but when I'm just browsing through other info, I'm much less likely to "like".

And it looks fantastic - obviously meant just for you!!!

Ok so I wanted to update this, just so I don't lead you astray.

DW's Premier bonus just posted, so I was poking around the travel portal this morning. Unfortunately, I can't find the Disney resorts anymore. I wonder if they were removed like with Chase? Swan and Dolphin ARE still there, as well as all of the immediate off-site hotels, but the on-site resorts are gone. That's a bummer.

That is a bummer. But thanks for the update before I pulled the trigger. I'll still hold onto that Premier app but will look into citi aa biz. Or more importantly the CSP to keep on Chase UR'S.

I'm only here for the likes. :P Totally kidding (kind of ).

No, this thread is beyond helpful and I love how welcoming and non-judgemental it is. The likes are just a bonus. I feel like this is the only place I'm not hesitant to post in because I actually get likes, which makes me feel like the time and effort I put into a post, whether its advice or just a random thought, is appreciated.

I once posted a lengthy reply to the OP of another thread on the budget board asking about SW cards, giving the OP advice on how to maximize points and telling them about this awesome board. Like you, I also got crickets from the OP. I'm thinking, well, you're welcome...o_O Meanwhile, I got multiple likes from friends on this board who had found that post ::yes:::rotfl:

Ahhh. Spouse just got the southwest companion pass on this year's offer (good until the end of the year).
If my husband already has a CSP, would I likely be rejected for the CSP if I added him as an authorized user on my application?
Trying to drum up some Southwest points under his account to combine with the companion pass.

If there are points in your SW RR account you can book him a ticket using your points

You would not believe how many people don't do this. It's my pet peeve. People are taking the time to help you - you can't take two seconds to thank them? "Thanks all!" works too, if you got multiple replies. It's beyond rude. If I notice that someone consistently does this & I remember their username, I will never answer their questions again.

I think you’re right! We all see this thread differently and it is more convo style. Can you say ‘off topic’ lol! We’re famous for it. We love OT while the rest of the DIS’s claws come out if you go OT. So we nod and ‘like’ to show our participation. It’s like @CyndiLouWho says. Big cocktail party going on here!

Quick question about the Amex Plat airline credit. I have a reservation on hold for DD's ORD-MUC flight (UA) for August; we are limited to non-stop flights because she is only 13 and flying as an unaccompanied minor (visiting cousins in Austria). DH's CIP bonus posted this Tuesday so I'm ready to transfer some points to top off his United Explorer account, which just leaves us with $103 in taxes and fees (RT) and $300 unaccompanied minor fee. I was hoping to use my Amex Plat airline credit to help with this but the card is brand new, just came in this week, I put a couple of small spends on it already but haven't met MSR yet. Am I correct in assuming that as long as I put United down in the card account as the designated airline, this should trigger the $200 credit? Or does the MSR need to be met first?

His having the CSP has no bearing on you getting the CSP. If you do go that route, make sure he refers you. But why are you trying to get all the points in his account? Is it just you 2 or are you buying for kids also? Just so you know, you can buy tickets for other people with your points. So if the points are in your name, you buy his ticket then he adds you as companion just the same as if points are in his account.

I go to the Restaurants board every few days (because things change so often - must try to keep up) & I don't understand why people there are always so mad. I don't get it.

Have you not tried to score those must-have ADRs, woken up at ungodly hours as ADRs open up, and then have to deal with Disney IT? I’d be pretty cranky after that too, until I’ve had my morning coffee.
:surfweb:

Red Diamond

Never even heard of that!

I'm already nervous about trying to get my ADRs next Monday... looks like Homecomin' fills up so fast. And for good reason!

I thought we were going emergency refrigerator shopping last night but, instead, DH went home from work and fixed it :woohoo: (for now, at least.) It seems the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator section was "stuck". He bought us some time to avoid making any rash decisions. The bad news is now I will spend way too much time researching this purchase, LOL.
