It would at least make it less unappealing if they removed them. There's enough other shenanigans DVC is pulling that negatively affect my direct purchase feelings though. The restrictions and false reasons for the 2020 adjustments give me a feeling of little confidence with this current management team so that I would not "reward" them with more $$$'s.

It was always our plan to buy here, and we haven’t worked out a plan B yet. I haven’t given up hope of a reversal yet, but I think I’m being quite unrealistic!

Had they done a ‘DVC 2’ for Riviera and future resorts at resale, but not the older ones, I would have also bought into that. Now I just don’t know what to do!

You know what you really want and at the end of the day that's what counts, but that's your common sense causing that doubt. Why pay such premiums for a single use resort. Its insulting and insane.

DVC 2 would have infuriated current owners, myself included, if they couldn’t trade into it. Like chartacolypse-level anger if not more.

I treat all my resorts as “single use” and paid for their location (VGF, BLT, and VGC). Different strokes for different folks. While I don’t trade often, the option still is nice, and I’m not saying it’s nothing.

I find the resort uninteresting and the rooms bland. Reminds me of a Holiday Inn.

So at that price point with that points chart no interest with or without restrictions

For people like you who can buy "single use" contracts at three of the most expensive DVC properties, more power to you! However most people buy a single contract and try to get the best value and flexibility out of it. Riviera offers neither of these things.

Maybe I should have been clearer. When I first heard of the resale restrictions I was hoping that resale of the future resorts would be for all future resorts, not just the home resort.
New resales of the existing 14 can’t trade into them anyway, so this is exactly the restriction that they’ve already put in place! I wasn’t suggesting that I wanted them to go back and modify terms for existing owners, I was just hoping it wouldn’t be as strict for future resorts.

As votes continue to get cast, its becoming clear that Disney has alienated 60% of buyers whom are mad about the resale restrictions. I cant believe the benefit of restrictions outweigh sales of Riviera today.

Yes, but you are talking about 60% of Dis members who check the DVC page. It's a very small sample of people, and ones that I consider to be more informed than most when it comes to DVC.
They will have no trouble finding buyers by using their in-person "pop up ads" that they have all over the parks (after seeing Ralph Breaks the Internet, that's the only way I can look at those sales people in the parks now)

I feel that the resale booking restrictions are targeted toward inoculating future purchasers from considering resale. People who have already tried resale are unlikely to be swayed, because they already know that resale is not bad at all.

I've stayed at a lot of Holiday Inns all across the country while on a cross-country road trip and I've never stayed in one that looked like Riviera or had a restaurant with views of fireworks and gondola access to 2 major theme parks. Personally I love the look, but I can understand everyone has different tastes and the design might not be appealing to some. I just don't see the comparison to a Holiday Inn.

The look appeals to me too. It’s what I would be looking for if I was in the market for a new construction residence, not as much for an vacation time share for convenient access to Disney. It doesn’t feel relaxed somehow but maybe a visit to the actual resort once it’s built will feel different.

I probably shouldn’t have voted, because we're of an age that buying a contract that will far outlive us doesn’t make sense. (It’s quite possible that we’ll expire before our BWV contract does.) If our ages were different I still don’t think we’d buy at Riviera since we already own at a near-Epcot/DHS resort — and to be honest, yes, the resale restrictions are a turnoff when thinking about our heirs possibly wanting to sell our contract after we pass on. BWV they could rent until 2042, but Riviera’s much longer contract term would make that not feasible.

That said, I love what I’ve seen in terms of the resort itself and hope to spend a couple of nights in a Tower Studio someday!

Probably not. Besides the restrictions, the MFs are too high for me, the point chart is higher than I would like. I think I might want to stay once to check it out. But I rather try to get in at 7 months than spend so much money. Plus I don't see myself ever buying direct at those prices. Unless I win the next $700mil PowerBall and can't figure out what to do with all of my money ;). I'd rather add on another resale. I'm in my mid 50s, so the 2070 end date doesn't mean anything to me.

I bought where I wanted to stay also. However, the ability to book at another resort if nothing is available at my home is a really valuable part of DVC. This happened to me when my manager wouldn't approve my vacation until a few months after I requested. If you own resale at Riviera, and a room isn't available for when you want to go, and can't afford a bigger room or whatever else is available, you're out of luck. That said, I voted I don't know, because I would consider buying due to the price point, and I've had no luck finding a small resale contract with my use year for the resorts I want.

Fair point.

That would’ve been better for me too. :/

I own a lot of resale. ;) I hate the restrictions too and agree with what you said.

Me neither. What Holidays Inns are people staying in that look like that?

This one is pretty close:

Just having fun with the comparison. That Holiday Inn was actually really nice, but I understand that Riviera is still a "deluxe" DVC resort, that should be very nice, even if it is lacking some of the character of some other resorts.

Lol, nice picture comparison...

I guess we can only hope Disney reads this forum thread and considered flipping their new restrictions. I have a mental picture of William Wallace from Braveheart yelling "Unit the clans!!!".
