The kids and I are there Aug 1-6, in a Standard room. I'm going to request close to lobby, since the weather won't be so nice as to get much use out of the balcony! I hope they're far enough along that we get a refurbed room, it looks great. We'll miss DH on this trip, but it's nice to be able to try a resort where fitting our family of 5 wouldn't happen without Big $ being spent. I'm planning a lot of resort time to beat the heat, and AKL looks perfect for that.

Late Fall is what I read somewhere on the Dis last week. They have a long way to go.

We are staying at Jambo 22nd-30th August... anyone know how far they will be through the refurbs at that point? What are the chances of getting a refurbed room now?

I would call and add the request to your reservation and ask again at check-in. There will be many renovated rooms by late August!

Has anyone seen any updated pictures of the handicap accessible rooms, specifically the bathroom? We have an accessible (roll in shower) room booked for September I haven’t requested a refurbished room or anything but if any of the accessible rooms have been done by that time I might think about making it a request.

Hello everyone! I love all of the updated pictures—- thanks for posting. My family is staying at AKL for 3 nights in August (8/12) in a savannah room. I’m nervous about construction going on and not having a great view. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can keep track of the refurb?

The Dis is the best place to keep track, IMO.
Call and request “away from construction”, or something like that. But I’d just wait until check in and asked to be moved if you don’t care for your room. Construction work seems to be 9a-4p.
If you’re busy in the parks and also keep a positive attitude (helps if you book with a decent discount) then my guess is you will LOVE it here. Great CMs and a beautiful property. They are trying hard not to inconvenience guests, I can really tell.

The renovated rooms look really nice. I haven’t stayed at the resort since 2002. So, I can’t wait to see the changes. My children have requested to stay here, so,we are doing a split stay at POR (3 nights) and AKL (3 nights) with only 4 day tix. I reserved Boma for dinner on our resort day. Would it be worth it to go to Boma for breakfast too?
