I just don't understand why everyone doesn't realize this and others keep trying to defend a VQ argument.
It's worth noting that...
eventually....a VQ system will probably work. But to think it will function efficiently within the first few months of opening (at least) is naive and short-sighted.
The only explanation is that these people feel entitled to get in just because they have booked a stay and should and not have to pay for access via a reservation system!
Disney = Capitalist. Shock. Horror!
I think the a virtual queue is the best way (certainly not the only way) to manage crowds for SWGE. Not saying that a reservation system (paid or 'free') wouldn't work, they probably would.
So let's say they do go with a reservation system and that everyone is eligible to make reservations at the same time (similiar to ADRs). Reservations for a given day will fill up very quickly but it is what it is. The main issue I can see if that a large number of guests will show up at HS without a reservation and have no hope of getting in.
With the virtual queue, not everyone will be able to get in, but those motivated to get there early enough may be able to join a boarding group. After they get their boarding group, they can do whatever. Since you can join a boarding group via the app while you are in the park, I don't see where there are going to be long lines waiting to join a boarding group. Once you have a boarding group, you can do whatever you like before you boarding window is up. I don't see how this is going to lead to mass confusion.
Regardless of what they decide to do, there are going to be people who will not be able to get in (at least early on).
As far as defending virtual queue because I feel I am entitled to get into SWGE because I would be an On-site guest, that could not be further from the truth. I think that the virtual queue provides the best opportunity to get in on any given day.
The EEMHs that will be in effect for the first month or so gives an advantage to on-site guests, but the virtual queue could be run independent of that. They can wait to open the virtual queue until the park opens to the general population and everyone can then try and get a boarding group. If I get a virtual queue and my window is up in 8 hours, I may go to a different park. If it is in a couple of hours, I will probably say in HS and do what I can there. If I don't get into a boarding group, or I am not interest in SWGE, then I will just go about my business.
If they use reservations and I am not able to secure a reservation, I may just pass on HS because going there for one fast pass ride isn't a good use of my time. If I were an uninformed guest and get there only to find out I needed to make reservations weeks or months earlier, I would be pretty upset. At least with the virtual queue, I would have a chance.
