New Vendor Drop-Off Policy? Update: CONFIRMED exclusive drop off vendor = Scooterbug

This is what worries me, we drive. We leave to drive home at 6 am, so the vendor would have to pick up between midnight and 6am and I have a feeling that they are not going to do that. My mother in law will no longer be able to come with us.
could you drop it off the night before you leave?

We are at the parks till they close so I doubt they would come out to meet us that late, it’s a 17 hour drive for us so leaving later in the morning really isn’t an option either. The bell service really worked great for us so it’s going to hurt not being able to use them

I hope you can find something that works for you. Hopefully they will have a late night ( like 60-90 minutes) after the last park closes. I bet your not the only stay at the parks late leave early in the morning only time will tell. Wishing all a good luck and little to no change in the way they tour Disney

how exactly is meeting the vendor supposed to work? Are the rental companies going to have to start stationing people at every resort?
It works just fine for all the non-featured vendors now. There are only 4 featured vendors, and off the top of my head I can think of almost double that number of non-featured.

I don't know how many of which stroller rental companies are permitted to use Bell Services to hold equipment
I believe there are 3.

Thank you, I’m going to hope for the best, we weren’t planning on going again till next August so there is some time to figure out how all of this will play out.

I am glade you have another trip planned ( always better when you have a trip to look foreword too) and the fact it is almost a year away will for sure give you a great idea of how to make things work ( like if s vender will pick up very late or very early. It also might be nice for mom and driver to go back a little early and rest before the long drive. ( I know I would never be able to drive home ( just a few hours ) on less then 8’hours of sleep ). I am sure this site will have great inform on the new rules and how things work.

We will have to see how this plays out. For those of us who have already had our room reservations for several months "close to the lobby" may not be an option--I have a standard wheel-in shower room reserved at POFQ in November--while I know POFQ isn't huge, I certainly was not planning on having to walk to my room with carry-ons etc. --and since it is not a preferred room (they weren't available at the time I booked) it will not be a close building. I know at SSR they will transport you and your luggage in a golf cart--not sure if that's an option at POFQ (and then once there you're stuck until the next day--so if my flight gets in at 9 p.m.--and I was planning on going over to DS to get dinner after arrival--that plan is shot because I won't be able to physically do that and won't be able to get a rental scooter until the next morning. I guess I would have to grab something to eat before getting escorted to my room). The plan had been to have the scooter delivered for arrival day so when I checked in I could pick up the scooter and go. (the November plan may be ok because what I read is that if you had a reservation made prior to Oct. 1 then they will allow the drop off--not sure about my January trip where my flight doesn't get in until 11:30 p.m.).

We stay at POFQ frequently. They will take you to your room with the Pargos at check-in time.

But if you have to meet the vendor at the front of the Resort (bell services, the lobby or the front drive) you may just want to wait in the Lobby... that way you don't have to walk back from the room.

Also, there is one 2 queen standard roll-in in Building 3 at POFQ that is VERY close to the main building. You can see the building layouts at portorleans.org

Isn't this how it used to be before Disney allowed the scooters to be dropped off at bell service? Personally, I would want to meet with the vendor and go over the scooter before I accepted delivery of it. If this is something that a person needs, then plan accordingly, just like any other person with any other issue. If someone can not truly walk even from the lobby to their room, and need to have an ECV immediately, then maybe having your own device from home is a better option.
what happens if your flight is delayed? you cant plan delays. been on a flight that should have arrived at midafternoon and didn't arrive until around 10 that night. needed an ECV to get to room. CMs are not allowed to push wheelchair. I see a lot of problems that are not planned on by this change

...
I’ve read a number of posts and Facebook entries now that have said some of the ECV/wheelchair Featured Providers and some of the stroller Featured Providers have told customers it will affect them.
....

Please add me to the list of those who’ve spoken with a Featured Provider.

The information, as I understood it from one of the published articles, was that if you had something reserved by October 1st, you would be grandfathered.

Since I have a trip planned for mid-November had hadn’t yet set anything up, I decided before October 1st would be a good idea. We’re doing at least a two-hotel split-stay, and maybe 3, depending on how Disney’s policy is actually operationalizaed.

When talking with a featured provider last night (9/27), we discussed Disney’s announcement. It seems like they will be able to continue to use Bell Services through the end of October, but do not know yet what’s going to happen November 1st and later.

If this change is true, it’s going to be a major pain and really impact how we visit Disney.

It sounds like from one bender they will be doing schedule drop off so for instance pop might be on the hour AoA might be on the 20 and CBR might me on the 40 they might be able to load all the ECV wheelchair stroller for that day and if the flight is delayed they just keep your item on the truck until you get there. And it sounds like they will have a better way of communicating with them maybe they have your flight information and can see your delay or you can text them once you get to Orlando if not flying

Only time will tell

I will say gold Hs been doing in person drop off and I do not hear any complaints about them only time will tell on what happens

Let me say up front, my DH only uses a wheel chair at disney. The amount on walking and no place to sit is too much for him. So if we didn't have a wheel chair for a few hours, we'd just hang around the room.

If you know your flight is going to be hours late, could you call your provider from the airport and let them know? Maybe they can rearrange drop offs. For us, we would give an hour or two cushion since you don't know flights and ME, but when we got to the resort, we would call and say "we are here, if it makes it any easier for drop off" Sometimes it worked in our favor.

I'm wondering if the vendors will have to go to watching your flights like the towncar places do now.

I wonder if after people complain, disney will be big hearted and reconsider and allow drop offs with "only" a $5 charge per item.

This is so troubling. When we check in I pick up my scooter so I wil
I will be able to go to my room. Sometimes the room is really far from the lobby.
Just rent from Gold Mobility, they will meet you when you arrive and pick up when you leave. Seriously, I think the indirectly and unintentionally are responsible for this shift. They have proven that companies can deliver on the customers schedule, not on the mobility companies schedule. They have demonstrated that replacing the equipment every 6 months leads to fewer breakdowns, which allows the delivery on the customers schedule. They have also proven that personally instructing the customer on how to use the scooter leads to fewer accidents and results in better safety.

My guess is this last point is one of the main reason for the change, which really isn't much of change for mobility devices, perhaps strollers, but not other devices. The other reasons are probably all of the damage and lost devices that people are claiming have been caused by Bell Services, which probably means Disney doesn't want the potential liability issues.

Gold Mobility absolutely will work with you, last pickup is usually around 10 PM, but I am sure you could work something later out if absolutely necessary.

Some guests only use an ECV at WDW. They can't walk the 5-10 miles a day frequently required by guests. Wasn't it almost a 1/2 mile walk from the farthest bus stop to the entrance of DHS last winter? Those guests can wait until the next morning. Guests can text their vendor when their delayed flight is about to take off. Vendors can monitor flight status. Guests will have to pick a vendor which is willing to accommodate guests with delayed flights, late arriving flights and early departing flights. I'm sure at least one vendor will have a solution, possibly with an extra charge. The "issues" are between the customer and the vendor. Disney wants out of the business of accepting delivery, storing, delivery to customers and accepting ECV returns without adequate compensation. Some moderators think the vendors are paying Disney, others don't.

Webmaster Doc, in the thread on the rumor board believes Disney is going to contract with one exclusive vendor, property wide.
My understanding is that Disney has a new contractor providing the Disney strollers/scooters for the parks and the decision has been made NOT to allow other providers easy access even at the resorts. This directly affects the companies which have been 'Preferred Providers' for several years now and allowed to use the Disney Resort bell services to store and dispense. I have no news about any possibility of the new vendor providing scooters/strollers to guests staying at Disney Resorts. This may even be indirectly related to the Skyliners.

I suspect the new contractor will eventually be able to service the resorts.
Edited to clarify the paragraph I bolded is a quote from another thread.

Would you share where you meet to get your scooter from Gold. Is it at bell services? Is it at your room? Is it somewhere's else, where? Can you pick a place or does Gold tell you where?
