Did 2020 room rates just go up?

They will remain values until a table service restaurant is built and slides are added to the pools.

Yeah, I've taken to referring to Pop as a "super-value" and AoA as an "Uber-value" since they really are their own levels of value resorts.

I think so a little. We also are looking for a room for 5, flexible on which week, but February. When I was looking a couple of days ago, there were a few options below 250, now there are not. Some close, but nothing under - where a couple of days ago there were things under. There is a price point they need to hit or I will book off property. I assume a discount is coming. I think the AP discount for February came out in early November last year, so I'll hold to see.
This is why my family of five is booking a house outside of the parks. We got a full house with 5 bedrooms and a pool for $1500 for 7 nights. even with paying for parking, it is costing us less than half of what Disney charges. We are 6 miles from Animal Kingdom. this way we will save on food costs by having breakfast before we leave and I think we may even get the midday tickets to save more. My nephew and his family were there in August the week before Labor Day and said it was pretty dead. He said alot of he major rides he just walked onto and maybe waited 5 minutes. He said he has never seen the parks with such low crowds in the summer. They are pricing everyone out. This will be our last trip there as a family as my kids are getting older. Wanted so badly to stay on site, but just cannot afford the cost.

We were there the same week (we arrived on 8/25) and were supposed to stay until 9/3. The low crowds that week were due to Dorian, and people who postponed their trip until both rides at SWGE were open, but mostly Dorian lol. We were doing a split stay and at checkin to our second hotel on 8/30 the CM at the desk mentioned that a LOT of people had checked out early trying to get out before they closed the airport.

Booked POP in August for 2020 rate was $154 night. Just checked for August, 2020 $174 night. Guess it does cost to ride the Skyliner, after all!!!

POP was a $121 average in Aug when I booked last year and as low as $106/night. Checking it for 2020 is what prompted me to go with DVC as we saw nearly a 50% increase in these "value" resorts.

food for thought here. We loved AOA, stayed there twice as a family of 5 in 2014 and 2015. at the times we paid 279 a night and 320 a night (forget the package name). Looked at staying there in 2020, not a chance, rack rate for the same time 505 a night average. List of places that are CHEAPER for a family of 5 to stay at is not limited to, but includes: Beach club, Yacht club, board walk, wilderness lodge villas, and Contemporary is only 10 more a night. That's insanity. I love AOA, but there's just no way we could ever stay there again.

Pretty sure it was only due to Dorian and the uncertainty of what the storm would do and were it would go. I wouldn't count on that happening again.

yes, if Disney keeps the Deluxe, Moderate, Value designations then they will stay as values - though, clearly their is a tiering amongst them that is starting to widen

Some thought that going foward they may change up the designations to be more "Monorail Resorts", "Skyliner Resorts", etc. but time will tell

Dorian was a huge factor in those low crowds.

As was Galaxy Edge. That’s the time I usually go, early in the week it was normal. Significantly lower crowds than peak summer, but still lines. By midweek, everyone was avoiding the potential opening day crowds as well as the hurricane.

Just reading on here and checking the app times, Sept was tremendously more busy than that last week of August. A quiet opening day worked out for us though!

What year did the rates not go up. Of course the rates went up. You be paying extra at Skyliner stop hotels

Pop and AoA aren't really Value resorts any more. They're Moderates. The only Value resorts now are the All Star resorts.

Moderate resorts have pool slides & a table service restaurant. So I don’t think Pop & AoA really qualify despite the skyline.

Does French quarter have a tableservice?

AoA doesn’t have a water slide, but there is a Nemo slide near the pool. Someone just needs to pick it up and move it closer. 3-4 guys max. 15 minutes.

:rotfl2:

FQ used to have a table service. It was said since POR has 1 & they are sister resorts, it still qualifies as moderate.

Quick! Someone check and see if Pop and CBR went DOWN after last night. :duck:

For those unaware. There was supposedly a skyliner accident last night.

But I think it was just a part of the ride. Special surprise scares/drops for the rider during Halloween

Absolutely nothing available in January 2020! Tried booking POP for any week and there is no availablity for anything.

I haven't checked it myself, but in another thread a poster mentioned that the discounts weren't available over the weekends at values. Not sure how true that is, if I have time today I'll check a few dates that should be during the discount period.

Rates are ridiculous for 2020 it seems.

Seems like they jacked the rates RIGHT before the discounts came up so it looks like you are getting a great deal (ala Kohls.

I looked at Port Orleans FQ for the same week (last weekend in March) and the DISCOUNTED 2020 rate is $100/night more than the AP discount for a Preferred room I played in 2019.

That is insane.

I enjoy Disney resorts, but these hotels are not worth $300/night unless they include park tickets.
