Ok - here it goes. I read the sticky posts last night, but I may have missed something. Our goal is to find a new rewards credit card. We are currently using Disney Chase visa (the paid version) for everyday spending. We have $2000 reward dollars saved up for our October trip, but we don't frequent Disney so I would like to find something with more flexible rewards.

- My husband and I use our credit card for every day spending, as well as paying any bills that accept credit cards
- We open to sharing one CC account or having separate CC accounts to double up on signup bonuses (if rewards can be combined, that would be great)
- Our main airline we travel is Allegiant. We do also have United and American Airlines in our local airport. We rarely drive to another airport to travel
- We generally take 1-2 vacations per year
- We like staying at Hilton branded hotels
- We have not applied for any credit cards in years, and have excellent credit, so approval shouldn't be an issue
- We don't mind an annual fee of up to $95 if the rewards are worth it

What rewards card would you recommend?
:welcome:
most of us here start with Chase cards.... Chase UR points are very versatile...can be used to book hotels, flights etc through their travel portal, transfer to travel partners or cashed out. They can also be combined between household members

if you are open to applying for business cards, the Chase Ink Preferred CIP has a bonus of 80k URs after spending $5k in the first 3 months...if you open one... and your DH opens one from your support link once the MSR is met on both cards you would have 190k URs

If you want to stay with personal cards...the Chase Sapphire Preferred CSP has a 60k bonus after a $4k spend... if you open one then DH does from your support link after the MSRs are met you would have 143k URs

Just wanted to agree with both of these comments!

Lol! I think I gained 21 pounds my first week!

As long as you are healthy who cares what other people think. You are beautiful I am sure!
Enjoy it!! Believe me when I say that with baby #2 and definitely any beyond, there will be no question what 32 weeks mean!

So true! When I became pregnant with my 3rd, midwife sent me for an ultrasound to make sure I wasn't having twins! Nope, just got big really fast.

That's exactly what I said. She likes to send texts with nasty comments about customers and / or information that might be pertinent, but sound mean about a customer. She is afraid that she will forward an e-mail she shouldn't (like she did last week, which was when I warned her that a customer can become nasty when he doesn't get his way -- she forwarded it to him by mistake). I don't think her carelessness is my issue though. I am a bit old school and really don't think work communication should be by text anyway!

Seems like she needs a better way to complain or learn to let it roll. Not everything needs to be complained about, we all work with idiots and occasionally do something dumb/make a mistake.

I'd start ignoring her texts or do like @Judique suggested and email her your response. Hopefully she'll get it.

Any chance she intentionally forwarded your comment? There are lots of back stabbers under the friends disguise in business.
I hope not! We are pretty good friends and I trust her (we've known each other a long time and she felt terrible when I realized what she had done -- I called her right away and she was pretty upset).

.

If I were still working I'd have a company paid phone but since I'm at home and not work dependent I really don't even need the minimum data.

My fancy phone is under utilized to begin with. It's really a glorified camera. And, daughter has the same plan. She uses wifi at work and at home and rarely needs data at all. We've never even come close to using up to the cost of the unlimited plan. My bill for both of us is less than $18 each month and unlimited is $45 for one person. There is now a $30 shared plan available for 3 gigs and another shared plan for $60 with I think 10gigs (from memory). We've never hit 3 gigs in 2 years. I think Xfinity miscalculated how some of us would use our plans and have now found a way to try and up our usage. We will see where this goes long term. Right now, I'm not changing anything. Bottom line, it's at my fingertips if I need to use it, lol!
In order to have an Xfinity phone service, you have to have 2 other services from Xfinity and we have basic Tv and internet - Blast internet for those with Comcast - for a total bill of $119.86 a month before cell phones which are billed separately. We own our own modem and router - did upgrades not too long ago as the equipment coming from Comcast was not the best. This lowered our bill by a few dollars a month.
So, we can stream whatever we need (smart Tv's) and have tv only to fullfil the contract requirements, and to help me get some sleep - if I turn it on I fall asleep!

I did notice that there is a promo for 'free' movies the week of March 2 to 8 I believe I read.

Back in the day I paid a lot for phone, internet and TV - over $200 a month for phones alone, then add cable. Not going back there.
interesting....I guess I don't qualify for comcast sell then since we only have internet and I refuse to step back into that quagmire or bills taxes and fees....dang. I didn't know they required two other services.

I'm confused on buying through Chase's travel portal - are there only certain airlines/hotels that can be booked through there? Is Allegiant available?

If we cash out instead, how does that work? Is it just applied to your CC balance?

When you say the points can be combined between household members, does that mean if I get a card, and then DH gets a card (so we can both get the sign up bonus) then we can combine our points?

We probably want to stick with a personal card. We don't have a business, and I'm guessing the annual fee might be higher on that.

Also - the travel protection on the Chase Sapphire - will it still apply to our Disney trip if we pay for most of the trip with Disney GCs? Is there a certain percentage that we need to put on the Chase card for the travel protection to apply? My parents are going with us as well. If we purchase their airline tickets on our card and pay for a portion of their Disney package, will they be covered as well?

When I PC’d my card the number stayed same and the rewards stayed ......I did have to select a new design since the one I had was not offered on the no fee card
I called and got it taken care of and the rep reiterated what you said. Thanks! I didnt have to change my design (mickey and pals) but decided to anyway. I'd been eyeing the castle design and got Chewbacca for DH who is AU.

I haven’t booked a flight yet through the portal since we fly SW and I use my RR points......So not sure about Allegiant, sorry.
I have booked hotels using URs with no issues

you can cash out by either doing a statement credit or requesting a check

yes if you get a card and your DH gets a card you can combine the points on one card...I do this monthly when our statements close.

don’t remember seeing that a certain % has to be on the card...I’m not as familiar with the insurance aspect of the CSP as others may be.....so I’ll let someone with more experience answer

Amex upgrade offers....

I just got an offer to upgrade my Delta Biz Gold to Platinum. I'm guessing I don't want to do something like this since I've never had the platinum before, and therefore have never gotten that sign up bonus, right? The offer is for 40k miles.

Also when you take the upgrade how long before they hit you with the new annual fee? I'm assuming that they do, right?

I believe that you are correct on both counts--if you take the upgrade offer, you are ineligible for a SUB on a new card, and they do charge the AF right away (but I think it's a prorated AF).

Well, my new Chase card arrived Saturday. My husband sent me the info but I decided just to leave it alone and not try to talk the DLH into letting me pay with a card I didn't have on my person. I did, however, use the new card to pay for the rental car when I dropped it off this morning so there's that.

I was posting only sporadically while I was gone but in case anyone missed it, ROTR was amazing! I got to ride three times and I did experience a "breakdown" during one of the times. We did get escorted out and we were given Multiple Experience passes to come back when it came back up. It was interesting because that was the first time I've seen what will eventually be the FP return queue. Will be fun to see when they finally dispense with boarding groups and go to regular stand by/FP lines.

No other real news- just gotta shift all the spending to the new card. Based on my past performance, I'm sure I won't have any trouble!!

Oh, side note- my mom was supposed to go to Japan to see family next week and has canceled her trip on the advice of her doctor here as well as her family there all saying to stay away. It would be nice if we had accurate, correct, and complete information about this stuff but I don't imagine that will ever actually be the case. So we wait and hope for the best. It would be a terrible thing if the Olympics get canceled though. I hope it doesn't come to that.

There are only certain hotels and airlines, but Delta United and AA are there. I've not seen allegiant in the portal. You can also transfer to Southwest at 1:1 ratio. Using points with SW is, in my experience, the best option as their flights don't usually take a ton of points plus you get the 2 free checked bags benefit. On some airlines, that can be as much as the flight. The other option is if you go with the Sapphire Reserve, you get 1.5:1 on bookings through the portal. But with the new $550 annual fee, you'd have to do a lot of traveling to make that work.

Cashing out is 100:1. 100 points per $1. Can be used as a statement credit or deposited to a bank account.

You just transfer the points all to one card in the Chase rewards portal. Easy process.

Annual fee on the Ink Preferred is $95. They don't know you don't have a business and don't investigate. I do do some side work that I get 1099's for so technically a business, but they didn't really ask for any proof of that in the application.

I've never needed the travel protection, so haven't looked at it too close.

I’m pretty sure @Haley R booked Allegient using UR’s, but said she had to call Chase to book. I have Allegient flights from the airport near my house so I remember thinking this was excellent news!

That's possible. I know that there are a lot of cruises you can book by calling that don't show up online. I would have never thought to call in for an allegiant flight though.

Hard to keep up with the little guy and going back to work.

Miles is doing great but my wife is definitely exhausted. Our 3 year old has been great as well with the transition.

2 Questions....AF hit today on CIP do I need to call? assume I can't chat or secure message to cancel.
Second question I got one of the Staples $30 back on $100 offers. Can that be done online? Anyone have success with online redemption or did everyone do it in store?

I always message to cancel with Chase.

You can send Chase a SM to cancel, if you wanted to PC then you have to call
I redeemed mine in store but others here have placed online orders

We regularly book flights with allegiant by using our chase points. They don’t show up on the chase portal; you have to call in. Depending on the rep you get they may even let you select seats and bags using your points. We’ve had mixed results with this. One let us do it and the other said you can’t book those using points so we had to do it OOP on allegiant‘s website. I suppose we could’ve called back and tried for a different rep but we didn’t care that much.
