News Round Up 2020

Not sure what to do. I’m on the 4th rescheduled trip for End of March to beginning of April and we just changed our rented BLT reservation to Poly for four nights. If it’s only DVC that will be open, how likely will monorail still run? Will Ohana and restaurants be open if only DVC? And most important, will pool still be open? The pro- the pool of open should be less packed during our Easter stay- however will it be so construction based that I should try to move to a different stay? Please help.
DVC Point of Sale materials guarantee that Disney will provide a pool and on-site dining. It doesn't have to be the feature pool, and the restaurant language is forgiving to say the least, but they have to offer something.

So it could just be the leisure pool? In your opinion, would you change? If this annoucement had been a week ago- I may have had a chance at Beach Club. But now, no. So, would you do Grand Floridian standard studio? Should I look at BLT? I wanted ease to MK. But the studio at BLT is so small for the 4 of us (I have a 16 and 14 year old).

Do you think Ohana would still be open?

Kona is open, Ohana does not have an opening date. Monorail has to run to GF and Contemporary so wouldn’t make sense to not stop at Poly. Also not sure why the pool would close with guests there.

Right now both pools are currently open at the Poly. as far as I know - Captain Cook's, Kona Cafe, and the Tambu Lounge are all open. Ohana and Trader Sam's are both closed. The monorail and the boats to MK are both running, but the monorail to Epcot is NOT running.

Personnally - I think overall this is not that bad. There are only three DVC buildings at the resort - so you will have light crowd levels at the pools and the QS restaurant. The biggest pain is the lack of monorail to Epcot.

We seem to be tripping into some empty resorts coming up. Boardwalk in May (closed indefinitely) Copper Creek in December (closed indefinitely) and now Poly in February (closed through next summer)

I would assume nothing else will be open beyond what is open now, and any other additions would be a happy surprise. Right now the resort monorails are running and the main pool is open. Ohana is not and with work in the main building, it may not open anytime soon.

Isn't one of the monorail stops right in the Ceremonial House? I don't know the level of construction so wasn't sure if that would be closed and then it was boat or bus. I am going for the main pool so that would be sad if it was only the small pool. I read the disboards A LOT for advice. What would you guys do? In your experience where hotels were closed due to refurb and DVC was still open - was it worth it?

I wouldn’t expect major renovations to GCH. It just underwent huge changes in 2015. I wouldn’t change until something more concrete comes out. I really don’t think this is a huge refurbishment.

Most hotels that have DVC are still closed. I don't believe the monorail closed when they did the huge overhaul at GCH a couple of years ago so no reason to believe it will close this time.

Actually I just skimmed the POS because I realized I hadn't ever specifically read Poly's, and it is different from the POS at the earlier DVCs that I had read. Nothing is declared into the condominium, every single recreational facility and restaurant is listed as part of the hotel; it specifically says Disney has the right to close all of the Polynesian hotel property including pools and other amenities for any reason.

Apparently Disney got a lawyer upgrade at some point.

I wouldn't expect them to close any pools that are currently open. But they could.

Oh no! There will be no monorail service at Poly when the work starts on the GCH in Oct!!!
