Thinking of Christmas

Thanks all :) I will look for a turkey breast. I normally do Stove Top stuffing, he once ate it but then it was a no go. He honestly isn't that into potatoes, unless they are fries or chips. I may get some Betty Crocker ones for me, I do like them :) I will talk to him though and see what he wants to do! Steak and pasta is his favourite meal, or possible ribs (only the Swiss Chalet ones). I'll probably be doing that for supper on his birthday. We'd normally go to Swiss Chalet but I'm reluctant to go to a restaurant, though perhaps we'll order in.

Now, I hope Shoppers flyer comes out soon! I have some points to redeem this weekend :D stocking stuffers here I come!

If you don't want to go to the restaurant or order in, they sell Swiss Chalet ribs now in grocery stores. NO idea how they compare tho the real thing.

e.g. See https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/swiss-chalet-smoky-bbq-pork-back-ribs-600g/6000197977826

Yes, that's the only kind I can buy. Even though I prefer M&M for the variety. Kiddo will only eat those ones! Or directly from the restaurant :) He seems to think they are the same which I guess is a good thing. My dad likes the Montana's ones you can get in store.

So we had our socially distanced American Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving tonight and we catered our food from a local guy in Whitby.
This was the meal and boy was it delicious and we got plenty of food.

Here is my brother, sister and I picking up the meals. We all wore our masks when picking up and delivering to our friends houses. Yup I am wearing a turkey on my head.

Since we couldn't be together for our meal I had my friends stand in for us. Each bear had a name tag with the persons name on it.

We gave each household a care package with dessert, wine, wine glasses (red cups), cutlery and games to play while waiting for dinner to be warmed. There were also after dinner chocolates and some got the coffee advent calendars while others got the Purdy's advent calendar. Our dinner food was a local business, the dessert and some of the goodies were also a local business. Support local.

@juniorbugman

I LOVE your turkey hat!
The meal looks amazing. I think I might just pick up a turkey breast at my Sobeys today and do that with stuffing for dinner.
I love that you had bear stand ins for everyone, I am going to use this for our Christmas this year-amazing idea!

I just got thinking about stockings and something my best friend said to me recently. I was telling her that I fill 10 stockings for my family. She said her adult kids told her last year that while they appreciated the effort, they felt they didn’t need them anymore as everything in them was either stuff they already had or things they didn’t want and that they cost too much. My family seem to enjoy them. Has anyone else’s family ever said not to do stockings any longer?
My sister does it for us , and it always fun to have . I look forward to it .

Checking my lists twice and looking for those Naughty but Nice people.
So far all my major gifts are done,, the last two were an email Etsy gift card and Michaels online gift card,,ok I did drive thru the Tim Hortons and get Ex Hubby a coffee travel mug and gift card,,I might have got a small coffee and a gingerbread/cream cheese muffin...............:rolleyes1

I have a few chocolate/Candy treats to pick up but I will wait until I have to pick up some meds in a week or two.
Family plans for our Christmas Day celebration are on hold until closer to the date.

Now back to planning a few more scarfs and what type of wool I am going to buy to make them.

Hugs

Happy December everyone! Appropriately we have a light dusting of snow outside. Enough to cover tree limbs, the grass, roofs and cars (of course) but it has not built up on the roads. It is suppose to start snowing again this afternoon though.

One of my son's teachers (elementary school) introduced Elf on the Shelf to her class and some (most!) days in December I want to curse her. However, some genius came up with two weeks of bliss for unimaginative moms all over the world! (Bless that person) So, even though my son is 16 1/2 now and too cool for words... I forced myself out of bed before he woke up and stuffed his Elf in my 'specially prepared quarantine jar! :rotfl: (in black ink on jar "Quarantine! 14 days!")

By the way, it was worth it! My too cool son actually laughed out loud when he went into the living room and found this. That put a smile on my face.

That is great! I know the feeling about a child who is "too cool" but they come around eventually. My 21 year old too cool son kissed my forehead yesterday and I felt the tears welling up instantly

I hear you! My son LOVED Christmas. It was his favorite time of year. In November he would start singing Christmas songs and want to start wrapping presents. He use to pull items out of his room that he thought we would love and wrap them up.

This year so far he has completely ignored all signs of Christmas, beyond some shopping. He has had presents in his room for 2 weeks now that he hasn't wrapped yet. Did not want to help with decorating. We made him sit with the family last night to watch the new Minions Holidays short movie clips. He protested but I heard him chuckling!

In retrospect I can see the last couple of Christmas his enthusiasm was waning but I guess I did not want to admit it. I miss my little boy more than I imagined! I thought I had at least 2 or 3 years left before that feeling would hit me! :sad1: The little boy who once told me he was going to buy a RV and live in our driveway so he could always help us now spends most of his day locked in his room when he's not at school or work. I KNEW I should have gotten that in writing!

So my nephews girlfriend got a free turkey today from her work and holy moly it is a 19lb turkey. I have never had one so large because we have a small family of only 6 so I usually buy about 9lbs. We may cook it earlier in the week so that I can share it with my Sister and my Mom if they can't come for dinner. They will just get 1/2 the turkey and cook their own veg. My nephews girlfriend said maybe her and my nephew can eat in their space downstairs, my Mom and Sister could eat in the dining room and my brother and I could eat in the kitchen. We would certainly be spaced out then. Only time will tell what will happen.

And we are a huge turkey family!!!! I make a turkey meal every 1-2 months!!!! And when the big turkeys come to the store, I am guilty of buying a couple to put in the freezer. For our little family of 4, I just made a 15 lb one last weekend. It was in the freezer, and I wanted the room in the freezer for Xmas baking...so into the oven it went. We LOVE the left overs of turkey sandwiches, and I will save a little to make into other quick weeknight meals.

I love love love all the ideas everyone had for the Christmas dinners. Whatever works best for your family...just do it!!!!!! Who cares... even if it is Kraft Dinner and hot dogs or whole whole turkey dinner looking like a tv commercial meal!!!!!!!!! It is the time spent together enjoying the simple things in life that matter. Whatever works best for you and your family!!!! Especially in these crazy times where we will all be limiting who we get to spend the holidays with this year - do what works best for you!!!!!

I have been doing a little Christmas Grinch Village home reno ....Ebay.............................
I just promised my son that the Ebay card is now put away for the season.
This years new 2020 Village house was the Pancake Drive Thru house. (I bought this from https://www.retrofestive.ca/ ) new
Then I got a great deal via Ebay for a retired rare Trees & Wreaths house (new and unused) and tonight I just finished off with a winning Bid on Whoville Shoe Shop.
Ok Ok I know a bit tooooo much retail therapy but what's a girl to do during lockdown and it is cheaper than renovating my home.

i have been watching too much british bake off lately...they’re constantly making meat pies and it made me think maybe i should try my hand at making a tourtiere this christmas. i’ve eaten them before but never made my own.

i could just look recipes up, but i figured i would check here first: any favourite recipes anyone is willing to share?
