Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

Is the slow vaccination due to social distancing requirements and having people wait 15 minutes?

My hospital is doing them in our largest conference room but it’s slow moving. Much much slower than the flu vaccines. They pop those out quickly. It’s like an assembly line for those.

I think once pharmacies and doctors offices start giving them out it’ll be faster moving.

They have to be thawed and mixed on demand as well, so there's a bottle neck depending on how careful you're being able getting just enough ready, but the main problem is the distancing and 15 min waiting period.

Israel only uses the Pfeizer vaccine for now.
DH (doctor) got it last Sun, I got it Thurs. (psychologist at hospital) with all our colleagues at our hospitals. All parents and eligible family members were vaccinated over last week in local hmo centers.

No side effects at all.

Wear a mask, get a vaccine asap.
We will overcome covid.

My sister works directly with Co-Vid at the hospital- she opted No. My other sister works in the hospital in the lab for Co-Vid testing and she opted No. I am a teacher who will be offered it soon- and I am on the fence. I do believe in vaccinations that are universal (MMR, hepatitis, etc.) I only had flu shot once and that was the year I had the flu! I believe someone has to be the first but, we know very little about this vaccine and long term effects. Johnson and Johnson one that is coming soon sounds promising. I know if I worked at a nursing home I may feel different. I believe people have to do what makes them feel comfortable and people have to respect others decisions. Do I believe in time that this vaccine will be required for students to attend school- probably (years down the line). However, a vaccination passport for people to go places, travel, worship, and live- should never be mandated. That kind of mandate should be worrisome for all the citizens of a free country. Personal decision is a freedom we should cherish in our democratic country.

My children’s hospital is across the street from one of our adult facilities. Both hospitals are getting vaccines now. They are using a large auditorium lobby/ atrium. We are getting Moderna, the other facility is getting Pfizer. The paperwork was emailed ahead of time. They have appointments scheduled every 15 minutes. One team checks you in, schedules your next appointment & has the paperwork in case you didn’t bring it. Another person administers the vaccine & fills in your vaccination card. The hold up seems to be that person entering the info into their hand held computer device. The Pfizer group had 4 teams administering the vaccine; our Moderna group only had 2. Not sure if it is because they have more employees or because of the vaccine storage/ mixing issues or what. They also started a week before we did, so they will be getting to 2nd doses next week. The Pfizer folks had minimal waits. Our group was running behind.. I finished my vaccine about 45 minutes after my appointment I was all finished an hour after the appointment.

They were very organized, with someone greeting you & keeping you in the correct hospital/ vaccine area & in the correct order. They had seating for each area, with different check in & vaccination cubicles but a combined observation area. They also had someone cleaning seating constantly.

For what it's worth, they've tested this exact technology in animals for years and in people since MERS back in the early 2010s, neither of which had long term problems, and the spot on the virus they're targeting was identified in the late 00s based off of SARS research, so none of this is really new.

Foreign mRNA is removed from your body really efficiently by your immune system because that's what it was "designed" for, and if there were any significant long term issues we'd have seen them in the Phase 1/2 trial people by now!

J&J is really similar to the Oxford vaccine (both adenovirus vectors); the closest COVID-19 vaccine to ones already on the market will be the NovaVax vaccine which uses a mixture of proteins and fats to make what are called "virus-like particles," very similar to the Gardasil HPV vaccine.

Overall I don't think any of them will be substantially less safe than the others, the only effects that we've seen so far that are fairly rare and are mainly related to pre-existing allergies.

FWIW, my day job is an industrial chemist to supply pharmaceutical companies and I have a background in biochemistry and pharma; I'm confident enough in the vaccines that I signed up for the trials and received a shot as did my infectious disease specialist father and my chemist brother.

If anyone has any questions or concerns about how the vaccines work feel free to message me and I'll answer as much as I can :)

If low vaccination levels keep us from getting kids back in the classroom, and reopening businesses that have suffered so much during this pandemic, then I hope they do start requiring them for certain activities. So many people have lost so much. We all owe it to them to step up and get vaccinated so we can hit herd immunity and finally move past this.

I'm curious, what do you think will happen with getting kids (and teachers) back in the classroom if lots of people refuse?

I suspect that some who feel as you do is what pushed me to the top of the vaccine list sooner than I expected. I live in a “personal freedom is King” state that didn’t have a mask mandate until July so it follows that antimaskers are likely antivaxers too.

As far as the bolded, if you are fine with travel to Texas, Florida, Mount Rushmore, and Sturgis, then you are probably correct. However, I expect that the same places who banned some travelers or required quarantines will likely add a vaccination requirement for visitors. I want my toes in the Hawaiian sand, to walk into a Broadway show again, not to mention the protection of myself and my neighbors so I welcomed the vaccine. I’d have done a trial if I didn’t live in the middle of no where.

I’m fine with people waiting and letting others of us go first. However, I hope vaccinations doesn’t become another battleground (like masks) where some Americans use “personal freedom” as a cloak for entitlement and selfishness.

That might take a while since I haven't heard of any approvals (even emergency use or the like) for children under 16 to take the vaccine. Supposedly they're going through trials now.

This is a dumb question, but are any made with actual "dead virus"? Since I'm immunocompromised (CLL) with a severe food allergy, I figure those are my best bet, but reading through all of the "which is which" stuff is a lot. I'm in the Shingrix protocol now, so I can't be vaccinated til about mid-March (which is when my doc thought I'd be able to "join the line" anyway), so are any "dead virus" vaccines coming online between now and then?

No such thing as a dumb question :)

Those are generally called inactivated virus, the SinoVac vaccine is one but based off of their preliminary results it makes an antibody response, not a cellular response, meaning their immunity probably doesn’t last as long as the other vaccines.
I’d be inclined to say NovaVax is the closest to what you’re describing, it’s not whole inactivated virus but a purified surface protein from the virus (made from a bunch of steps in a bioreactor so there’s no infectious material present at all).

No actual virus in any of the vaccines approved or in the pipeline for US distribution. A couple of vaccines approved for use in China are inactivated virus. The ones that are widely distributed in the US are mRNA, which I understand are designed to replicate the proteins needed to attack the little spikes on the virus. So there's not supposed to be any way that someone could be infected, like with an incompletely inactivated live virus (think polio vaccines).

I only see this in extreme people.

We just found out father-in-law, his wife and her two adult children are not wanting the vaccine (the adult children are not wanting it because their mother doesn't want it). The father-in-law will likely have to get it because of who he works for. However, they are people who wear masks in public never had an issue with it and will continue with it until such time they are given the all clear.

I try to give people the benefit of the doubt here in not assuming they are one in the same. I think the vaccine, even as pro vaccine as I am, is more complicated to people than mask wearing even if both are a seemingly simple thing to do.

True but if the communities are being vaccinated, the teachers are getting vaccinated (even if not as an exact subgroup labeled teachers) along with our knowledge on spreading with children (i.e. young children seemingly aren't spreading it at the same rate as older children), schools and such will have a better shot at opening and at more 'normal' ways.

But if the community vaccination level is low well then you'll be in a position such that you have now.

Well I guess I will not be sharing how I feel. Or how other people, like me, may be nervous or scared regarding the vaccine. I always enjoyed the boards and the difference of opinions but I guess this is another topic that one cannot openly discuss. My apologies for those that felt angered by my confusion and anxiousness about injecting something into my body.

Someone referred me to this very in-depth article. You can probably understand it. Me, not so much. Would love your take on it. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7142689/

I have not had the vaccine and as an old lady I am beginning to feel that I am being pushed down the list.
