Star Wars: Galactic Starship (resort experience) News

Question about a particular scenario. Without the cost being a factor, for a 10 day Disney vacation, would you do GSC at the start, middle, or end of your trip? I feel like as someone that doesn't live in Florida, if I am flying to Orlando for GSC, I might as well try and get to some other parks while I'm there. But I'm waffling between 1. GSC at the start - pro: get the full LARP experience at the beginning so relax afterwards, plus can use those *special* data bands for the rest of the trip. con: rest of trip might feel lackluster/less immersive in comparison??? 2. GSC at the end - pro: have
whole trip to enjoy with GSC to look forward to. con: no more magic after a full immersive experience, abrupt ending to trip. 3. GSC somewhere in the middle - pro: could solve some of the cons from options 1 & 2. con: lots of moving hotels

Go first. You probably won't need/want to visit Galaxy's Edge again afterwards (especially with line jumping ROTR and SR) and can save yourself that time. And you'll have your magic band. And can relax, etc. I think going last, while building the anticipation, will be SO jarring to go back home after that amazing experience. Better to ease yourself back into real life in baby steps.

Does anyone else think that the sample itinerary looks very disjointed? 20 minutes doing this. 30 minutes doing that. On the surface it sounds like by the time you get organized and do something it’s time to move on to something else.

I think it will be much more "pick and choose what you want to do". There's no way you'll have events that crammed together (and there's no way all those activities will be that short!) I think they just wanted to throw out different kinds of things you can do. Having that as your actual schedule seems utterly unrealistic for many reasons.

I was interested, but the asking price is unreasonable in my opinion. It appears that at minimum they charge based on double occupancy, so as a solo traveler I'd have to pay for a non-existent person. The amenities aren't exactly deluxe, but they're charging deluxe pricing. I'm also not a fan of the chosen timeline or the itinerary and I don't think they're offering enough of a value. It would be a little more understandable to me if the prices included your robes, lightsaber and droid, but at this price I just can't justify it. I'd rather use the money to help buy an add-on DVC contract.

It will be interesting to see how it does and how people like it. Maybe in a couple of years when they start offering discounts or change the timeline I'd be interested in giving it a go.

The price isn’t even really the issue. I figure capacity around 20,000 people a year. That’s a Disney cruise week (5 ships) or a day or two of an attraction. At a reasonable price, demand would induce a 20-year waiting list. Imagine 1 million Star Wars fans. It would take 50 years to cycle them all through. So either you can’t afford the high price, or you’re playing the lottery to get a ressie. Either way you’re most likely not going.

It’s strange that they made an exclusive hotel from an IP that has such a massive and wide appeal. Even if it every Star Wars fan mortgaged their houses to raise the money, there would never be the capacity to have them all go in their lifetimes.

There are 18,200 "slots" per year - 100 rooms times 182 days (since each trip is 2 days, so half of 365.)

If there is an average of 3 people per group, they can do almost 55,000 people per year. Which is a lot.

The high price is at least partly to manage the demand. Disney is extremely good at market research. This seems like the sweet spot.

While I'm sure this experience will be very successful, I don't think there will be a 20 year waiting list.

Thanks for the numbers. It’s not quite as exclusive as I thought. 55,000 isn’t a lot if you consider the number of Star Wars fans that probably want to go. It may be a lot if you consider the amount that can actually afford it. There probably won’t be a long waiting list with the current prices. Who knows. But there would be if it was more affordable. Supply and demand. And they have probably as you say tried to match that with the size of the hotel versus the pricing.

Speculation, I don't think Disney will do more then 3 voyages a week. 15,600. Disney will have to block out a few voyages for maintenance.

I can see corporate buy outs. Incentive trip for top 100 salesmen.

The opportunity to discount / upsell is potentially limitless. Pondering a DVC purchase? Buy into GF and get an excursion via Star Wars Hotel at 25% off of list price. Looking into Club 33? 10% off a Star Wars stay. Have any empty rooms three months out? Run a bounce back offer with the same 10% discount.

I wonder how the cosplay groups would react if Disney told them they couldn't wear their costumes in the hotel because people might think they work there (the reason they can't wear their SW costumes to the parks).

The whole point of the thing is that it'll be an immersive experience. They provide the costumes for you. You can also wear costumes in GE. I'm pretty sure that most people who would go will do their research, and plan their outfits accordingly.

It’s the opposite - this is from the Galactic Starcruiser Website:
Costumes and Gala
Throughout your adventure, you are encouraged to don your galactic best. As you will become a unique character in the Star Wars galaxy, we invite you to dress the part.
If your wardrobe is currently limited to a single planet, Star Wars galaxy apparel is available in-advance from shopDisney or on the ship.
How will you come dressed? In your Jedi best? Ready to rumble for rough and tumble smuggling? Dressed to impress in your Coruscant best? Or in your most comfortable garb from your home planet? The choice is up to you!
But whatever planet’s clothes you choose to wear, be sure to save your very finest for the traditional end-of-cruise gala celebration!

Only kids under 14 can wear costumes in GE. Adults can't, and I imagine this would also apply to this.
No, they can. The rules are slightly different in GE. You can't dress like specific characters (so no, I will leave my Chewbacca costume at home, thank you very much :P:P), but you can wear Jedi/Sith robes, or anything else that identifies you as Star Wars without being anyone recognizable.

Well, that would go against the point of the experience, so it would just never happen.

No, it doesn't apply at all. The point is to dress up and "become" a character.

They aren't providing costumes. They'll be happy to SELL you costumes, though.

No, they are. The cost of rental/purchase is likely baked into the price. I know it's not much to go on, but all of the guests in the concept art are dressed for a specifically Star Wars experience. If you can find ONE Hawaiian shirt or set of mouse ears, I'd be shocked. What I'm picturing is something similar to the intake procedure in Westworld. You enter the resort, and get to choose your wardrobe based on whatever path you choose.

Not sure that is the case. This is taken directly from the website and sounds like you will have to purchase wardrobe (not rent) if you want to immerse:

I did see that. I wonder if what ends up happening is some blend of these concepts. The experience is purported to be the most immersive experience, and they'll probably do everything they can to maintain that immersion. Of course, there is always the chance that someone's culturally inclusive haircut or clothing will wreck immersion so badly that it'll inspire an op-ed in the Orlando Sentinel (kidding).
