If this isn't the ULTIMATE, he's an Ex for a reason. The Ex and I both opened CSRs back in 2016. He just told me he cashed out his points for AMAZON! I about lost my **** on him, as he KNOWS I do this....hell, he wanted ME to book a trip to Cali for them. He's like it seemed like a good deal. I'm like, you didn't THINK to ask me (we get along great, hell I just had dinner w/ him and the kids at my moms house).

Now he wants me to drop $1k on snowboarding gear for our son. Mind you, he's 12 and GROWING! I told him, I don't mind dropping $$$$$ on hockey gear as he's in it 5 times a week. But snowboarding gear....when he's going to go, MAYBE 10 times, and likely need new gear next year! UGH!

Answering myself, since my question is now obsolete! Just got an email that IHG FN certs issued in 2021 will get extended expiration date to 12/31/2022!! Yippee!! This helps me out a ton as I have two certs expiring in March that I had no use for yet.
DAMMIT! Last year, they didn't extend the current ones, they just gave us new ones. So I had 1 set to expire 12/31 and one in April 22. So I just used them in NOLA 2 weeks ago....figuring they would do the same, and I'd loose out on them this year but MAYBE get them extended. Oh well......I like the IHG ones to use in Vegas at Palazzo. I got a decent redemption I guess.

Does when is the best time to buy video games? Its been a few years since I’ve had to buy them but DS6 is super into games now.
I remember Target usually has buy 2 get 1 at some point?
Hip2Save is my go to for holiday stuff. They have a great spreadsheet where they put all the deals!

Black Friday will have some big sales. Unfortunately the Target buy 2 get 1 now usually excludes first party Nintendo and Playstation titles.

Amazon will have some titles available at decent prices on Black Friday week. Their prices seem to be better on Prime Day- so you will have price compare with other sites. Obviously, on newer releases that are popular- you will just have to pay retail- or close to retail- until the gamers move on to other titles, then they will drop the price. If they do computer games, the Steam store is a good place to look leading up to Black Friday as well since they do a ton of discounts that week. They now have Steam gift cards- both physical and digital- so if you want something tangible you can just get a gift card- but again, this would only apply to computer games- not consoles.

I remember the buy 2 get 1 deals. It's also been a while for me for games but I think it used to be after Christmas/around the New Year.

ETA: For the one game I'm buying this year (the new Mario Party), I figured the best I could do was the 10% that's often offered on Nintendo gift cards or the Chase Best Buy offers. I think I'm newer games, it's not going to be better than that on Black Friday.

Actual new AAA titles (i.e. the big main games that everyone wants) are usually $50 at Walmart in-store only. They're $60 everywhere else, including Walmart.com.

Does anyone have a data point on getting a CL increased for US bank business cards? DH applied for the US bank biz leverage visa last week & they approved him today with a 1k CL 😒 Since the MSR is $7500 in 4 months, he wouldn’t be able to meet MSR with that. I’m wondering if they intentionally gave him such a low credit limit because of the MSR offer or if he can call or message to get it increased a few thousand.

I don't think I've seen a CL that low since I was in high school.

Sure he could. A CL isn't a maximum monthly spend, it's a maximum outstanding balance. Spend $1K today, pay it off tomorrow, spend $1K the next day, pay it off the day after that, etc. He could hit the MSR in a couple of weeks if he's diligent about paying his balance daily.

(This is still incredibly annoying, of course. But not impossible.)

This is what we are doing with DWs new CIP. Only has a 7k CL with a 15k spend. Maxing it out today paying down a cruise- wait until it posts- pay it off- rinse and repeat.

That is called cycling and some banks will quickly close your account for that behavior.

Pricing video games can be tricky. If you are buying for a Nintendo system, a lot of “all games on sale” sales actually exclude Nintendo games.
One suggestion, at our local Walmarts (and my understanding most Walmarts), new video games are $10 cheaper than the regular price. I buy new Switch games there all the time for $50, instead of $60 everywhere else.

Thanks, but the Amex Bonvoy Biz is the only Marriott he already has.

I see. I assume he got the SUB more than 24 months ago?

The Chase velocity might be okay if he spaces out the card after this one further. I actually have plans to have a similar spacing, but I feel a little nervous about it. Planning to get a personal SW which will put me at 5/24 until May. So wanted to squeeze in a biz card before then.

For a couple grand over a period of four months? On what planet? I actively use cards from Chase, Citi, BoA, AmEx, Discover, Wells Fargo, and Barclays. Every single one of my cards is paid off weekly. Never in my life have I had an account closed for cycling or gone through a "financial review" or any of the other doomsday scenarios that people throw out there.

I pay my cards weekly (or at minimum several times a month) because I just like doing things that way. I admit I've never done it to stay beneath a credit limit, but I've also never had an issue.

We pay our cards off at a minimum of every week as well. If I am checking for offers during the week- I will go ahead and pay off what's posted then, too. That way the credit reporting agencies get notification of balances being paid in full, and we keep our credit utilization as low as possible- both of which help our credit scores.

I mostly need to check every week to see if my wife has put us into the poor house yet.

I usually pay mine bi-weekly.

If the total amount you've charged in your statement cycle doesn't exceed your CL, that's not really cycling.

If your CL is $1000 and you charge $1000 every day, by the end of the month you've used 30x of your CL. Some amount of cycling is maybe okay. Depends on the bank. Hard to say where the limit is though.

Wow, I had a credit in my AA wallet from my cancelled Aulani trip last year, of $1222.23. They had extended it to 3/31/22. I just went into my account and it's gone.
AA says its still there, and gave me some number to put in when (rather a big fat IF) I book a flight. I asked them for the expiration, still waiting for that answer. At least I have all this in Twitter as proof now.
