Annual Pass Price Increase Announced for Walt Disney World Starting 12/8 (NOT for Sale Yet!)

Because pixie dust aka weekday was always Florida resident

DVC normally was platinum (which is the equivalent to incredi now and available to all guests) or gold (which is equivalent to sorcerers and is for Florida residents or DVC members)

No…
Mainly this is so that renewals will be % off of the new prices
I know, but some DVC members with a ton of points (that's not me), they probably go more than the locals. I just want the pass to save some money on two trips a year. I can easily live with no weekends at parks.

The price increase doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll restart sales again. They can’t raise prices on renewals unless they raise the price on an actual new pass. This way they can get more money from renewals right now. If they waited to raise prices until new sales resume, they’d be missing the extra $ from renewals all that time.
I understand what you're saying and agree. However, one option is they could just stop discounting the renewals to get some extra money moving forward.

Yeah. Gotta check your assumptions at the door with Disney…
DW wants to renew our Sorcerer so we can renew again next fall, even though we only have one trip planned over the next 12 months. I said what gives you confidence we’ll be allowed to renew next year?? Everything is dynamic and up for change. Hostile environment for consumers.

It really is! You're right - anything from going to back to more 'normal' approach of offering APs and renewals all the time, to taking them away totally. It really could be either.

I agree. We go twice a year for 10 days and I’d gladly give weekends up. I don’t see how if we own deeded real estate AT disney, we can’t get the same deals as someone that lives in Florida. It makes no sense to me from a financial point of view to give the cheapest passes to residents that live close and according to Disney “spend less in the parks”. (Not my words but theirs) Not to mention, use the passes MUCH more. But that’s ok because we just made the tough choice to cut to one trip a year, for 14 days and just buy 10 day tickets and let our passes go. It will save us a ton of money and make the trip more relaxing anyways.

We have been annual passholders for 10 years. We moved to Florida about 5 years ago therefore are now Florida resident annual passholders who pay monthly. We are also DVC. Our GOLD passes expired yesterday, November 14. I called the AP line because the only option the app offered me was to renew to incredipass which i didnt want. I was told that being DVC and Florida resident, i could go to sorcerer pass. I wanted to stay on monthly payments but the CM on the passholder line said my address on file was still from NY (from ages ago! Idk how its even possible) but i would have to renew in person to prove im a florida resident. He said no worries!!! I have 30 days to do it!!! So DH and I were planning on going Friday after work to renew and have dinner.... but now the price has increased!!! Do you think they will honor the renewal price still??? This is CRAZY! We have been FL residents for years! Never had this problem! I feel so upset about this. What are your thoughts?
I was in the same boat. Was DVC (gold pass) prior to moving to Florida last year. When renewing I wanted to do the monthly payment plan on my Sorcerer's pass after we moved- and I had to go in person. So we made a weekend of it and drove the 3 hours to stay two nights on property and renew at Disney Springs. Cost me more than just paying the whole purchase price out of pocket 🤣

That's what we did and it worked well. We sold one of the contracts and now only going once a year. This was the first year without an AP and probably won't be purchasing one in the future. At 2 trips a year, the AP made sense, only 1 trip, the parkhoppers are cheaper than the renewal would have been.

On a side note, I thought it was interesting that this was just announced for DISNEYLAND….

When I bought DVC in 2015, I think the first AP I bought was $549. I can't believe how much the price has gone up in such a short period of time. We've been doing a lot of resort only stays over the last 2 years. I can't buy tickets every time, it's insane.

It is complicated. You own an interest or small piece of the real estate. You can't provide anything they need to prove residency. I'm out of state as primary but own real estate in FL. The reason I can get the pass is I can provide the documentation they require mortgage/deed, utility bills, insurance, government mail to my address ...

It makes sense to me. You already committed to vacation in close proximity to the park and in all likelihood will purchase tickets. From their perspective they have DVC hooked. Giving the option for the DVC AP is their offer of a discount. I do agree that should have reopened for DVC AP a long time ago.

Honestly I wouldn't believe anything Disney says about who spends what - it is all PR to back up their own plans, and the part you quoted was in reference to Disneyland, not Disney World. WDW locals stop in for a few hours, they buy meals, they buy drinks, they pick up new merchandise without clogging up all the ride lines, show seats etc. They don't show up daily (like DL). That pass keeps those guests engaged with WDW and spending - there they are competing with Universal, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens for locals dollars. Honestly as I've said Disney could just escrow all those Pixie Pass payments and have a HUGE gap fund.

But that’s ok because we just made the tough choice to cut to one trip a year, for 14 days and just buy 10 day tickets and let our passes go. It will save us a ton of money and make the trip more relaxing anyways.
I do think for everyone WDW has reached that point no matter your tickets or where you stay. It is more work than vacation for most.

Had APs since 2007. It really is a big change. Adult price has more than tripled. Now that there is no Children's so their has gone up almost 4x.

YAY! For DLR passholders! Great news for you!

This makes me sad. We were only coming once for 11 days next year. A 10 day ticket was pretty close to our renewal for our sorcerer pass (DVC). A little higher but was still going to do it. Now with the price increase it makes no sense to keep them. We are officially out. Been passholders since 2004😩 It holds no value to me anymore since reservations favor ticket holders over AP and the discounts I already get with DVC. I never thought I’d say those words….
They are also increasing the individual ticket prices on December 8th so I am sure the numbers will still work out for AP to be more cost effective. Based on the percentages, it seems like they actually may be increasing the day tickets more than APs. However, it still isn't clear to me how the park hopper is going to play in since they are now pricing each park differently on the same day.

Can't you just show that you owe several grand on BLT or GF points .

Yeah, grasping at straws and those are paper straws that have been sitting in a drink for 20 mins. But I really really really want that pixie pass. LOL

Disney just resumed sales of new Magic Keys for DLR.
Many bloggers and posters thought the lawsuit in California might be delaying the resumption of new sales of Magic Keys.
The California lawsuit over Magic Keys may still be pending.
It appears the last order was to extend the discovery ending date to April 2023. But, Disney did discontinue the Dream Key that was the subject in the complaint.
Disney also added new language to Magic Key terms and conditions, but I don't think it would be that easy to write themselves out of a problem, especially if it violated consumer protection law in California. One party who controls the drafting of a contract cannot excuse themselves from compliance with consumer protection laws.
It appears Disney also tipped the priority for park reservations in favor of passholders - for now. So that alleviated some of the problem -- for now.
So maybe a combination of those things were enough to reduce the legal risk of expanding a plaintiff class; thus paving the way to resume Magic Key sales.
Also, it appears Judge Carter might have been ready to rule on the certification of the class in January 23. So, maybe with that pressure point coming up, both might have engaged more vigorous settlement negotiations. Perhaps there was even court-directed conflict resolution. That would have been off the record until a settlement is entered or a dismissal is granted.
Checking online court documents alone will not answer the question of status at this time. So, we don't know the status.
Anyway, it will be interesting to find out the status of that California litigation (which may not be of record yet) to see how it might impact the resumption of new AP sales for Disney World in light of the new litigation filed in Florida in October 2022.
