Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun - 2023 Edition

I think it looks like Mickey's Toontown at DLR, which is a very nice land. But less cartoony maybe. The movie's design/subject matter of course lends itself to that cartoony look. Unlikely for us to go to Shanghai, so I do hope this comes to the US, or at least Paris or Tokyo as we do go to those.
Don't get me wrong, I hope they bring it to WDW too. I'm not convinced AK is the right place because it is cartoonish make believe animals story. I don't think animals being in the movie is enough to qualify for AK, or at least I hope AK stays more true to it's story.

What might happen is that they do half of AK's Dinoland as some kind of Moana ride featuring first to at least fill in some of that zone, and eventually the rest of the area gets the Zootopia expansion.
I don't think Zootopia is going in that area. I think even when they hinted long ago, it wasn't for that area. They need something sooner than later, not 7-8 years from now. And I hope we hear this weekend it's already on the design phase AND that we have a sooner than later plan for Dino Waste Land.

You are giving way too much credit to Universal.
I think the theming is amazing and accurate for Zootopia.
The street truly has the look of IOA cartoon lands in the design elements. Much of the newer Universal was designed by previous Disney Imagineers so there will be similarities. And given the HIGH quality of the Harry Potter Lands, some of it above and beyond Disney I have no problem giving them credit where due.

Many of the older IoA lands were designed by former Disney imagineers too. Specifically Lost Continent. They were formerly imagineers for AK that left due to being upset about Beastly Kingdom never happening.

Anyone else kinda tired of hearing about every other park besides WDW? Disneyland, Shanghai, Tokyo, the Treasure… even universal? Everything is flooded with those news stories and I just end up checking out because I will (most likely) never be a part of any of that. Losing hope that there will be any WDW news of substance anytime soon. Sorry a downer. Just love my happy place too much for it to just get nothing. (D23 is a coming. I get it. But not very hopeful)

Sadly I think some of the DeSantis drama is discouraging much investment in WDW, at least until it’s resolved.

I think it'll be a while, even if there are announcements. Enjoy what there is in the meantime, or maybe branch out if possible?

But I get, I love my happy place as well. I've been to Disneyland and some of the international parks and have loved them, but even though in some cases they have strengths that surpass WDW in specific ways, WDW has my heart.

Agreed… honestly if it wasn’t for Tiana I’d let my AP lapse and sink my Disney Dollars into cruising that said 2024-2025 may be it for me

Can also add to this list Journey of Water
I feel like if any park doesn't get love, it's Disneyland Paris. When was the last time they received an an actual ride? Not talking about the Studio park but the castle park.

I do think that people say that WDW doesn't get love because a lot of what we got was underwhelming (not counting Tiana because obviously it's not open).

Last completely new attraction was Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast on April 8, 2006.
DLP did get the HyperSpace Mountain retheme in April 29, 2017 and Mickey's PhilharMagic on October 1, 2018, but those were the last non-firework/street show additions to the park.

I was asking about original rides and not rethemes so LOL wow 2006. WDW is eating good compared to Paris.

I agree 100% with all of this. But...I see nothing from the TWDC that would demonstrate refurbishing an entire land in less than 10 years.

Remember that the licensing deal for the Avatar rights happened in 2011, which allowed TWDC to create the Pandora land. Construction on Pandora started in 2014 and was to be completed in 2016. It didn't open until May of 2017. It took about 3 years and that's during a time when TWDC had access to nearly free money (i.e. low interest rates), less debt (i.e. licensing deal predates LucasFilm and Fox purchases), and far, far lower inflationary costs for supplies and materials and labor. Plus, other areas of the company were doing very well (i.e. Movie Studios) with profitable movies.

This company takes forever to build and nearly every project gets delayed. For cripes sake, Moana Journey of Water is an enhanced sidewalk and it is 2 years delayed. You can't make this stuff up.

Wow! I went to DLP in 2007 and 2017 and didn't even realize nothing new had happened in those 10 years.
