Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I just need a moment to whine here with people who understand where I might be coming from. Bear with me...

I really really hope that CA releases its theme park reopening guidelines soon. I'm tired of waiting. I have tickets in hand, that we purchased in January of this year. I'm willing to pay a couple of nights to stay in an on site hotel even. We were supposed to go to DL JUST before everything shut down, but we postponed our trip because YDD was sick with the flu.

Like everyone else, I rescheduled multiple times. Only to be disappointed. ARGH!

We had a family trip with my sister planned for a week in Maui in July. That got postponed to next March. A couple of weeks ago, I told my sister that we're pulling out of the Maui trip. We got a refund on our airfare. My sister is still going. She's inviting some friends to join her instead. She's frustrated that we chose to cancel, but I'm not going to shell out $140 x 4 for 72-hr-beforehand COVID-19 tests at the last minute, with the possibility that it could be all for nothing if 1 of us tested positive.

My sister said, "I want to go on vacation! I haven't been on a vacation in over a year! I want to go to Hawaii, so I'm still planning on going if they cancel the 72 hr-test-beforehand rule by then."

When I told her yesterday of my frustration & sadness over DL still being closed with no reopening date, she said, "Well, over 1M people HAVE died from this disease worldwide." I got mad and snapped at her, "There's nothing I can do about that. How come it's ok for you to want to go to Hawaii but I can't be mad that Disneyland hasn't reopened yet?"

So there you have it. That's kind of how I feel right now. I took solace in my garden early this morning and cried about it while watering my plants. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to cry tears of joy once we are finally able to go again.

I feel really bad for all of the CMs who are being laid off. I want to go to DL. I want to spend some money there. I can't really talk about this on social media or with very many people I know in person. And holy cow, don't even broach this topic on the Community Board because you'll get skewered over it.

I have a whole lot of respect for Josh D'Amaro. I'm so glad that he's the head of Parks & Resorts now. He's the right person for the job. Him going in person to talk with the CMs and all that and apologize to them just shows how much of a class act he is.

Well with the announcement of reservations aren't being accepted until Nov 1st I am going to just give up on my Oct trip. Once an opening is actually announced I will make plans. I am tired of making plans and getting everyone's hopes up just to be disappointed.

I hate the rhetoric of the ‘it could be worse’ comments because it just seeks to invalidate someone’s emotions. Yes, this is a horrible pandemic and obviously we’re in a privileged position if this is one of the biggest worries/moments of sadness on our plates.

However, that doesn’t mean our sadness and disappointment doesn’t matter. Everyone has their hobby that makes them happy- look at how valuable sports can be to some people- and I argue Disney is that same thing for most of us. Everyone has a right to grieve for the experiences they’ve lost this year. And family memories/traditions.

I get the ‘well, at least you can work from home!’ comments a lot and well, yes this is true... it’s really isolating and I miss connecting with my students in person. Am I privileged because I’m safe from the covid university crockpot? Totally. But that doesn’t mean I can’t feel sad for not being on campus.

So phooey to all that, you have a right to be sad! Hugs!

Thanks. I know that we all have a lot to be thankful for. I feel terrible for all of the people who have lost loved ones from this disease.

At the same time, I'm tired of people who think that everyone should stay at home forever unless it's for something that THEY want to do. Why is it ok for people to go to Hawaii or WDW or national parks or hang out on the beach for an afternoon, but I'm not allowed to feel sad and frustrated that the happiest place on earth is still closed?

I want to celebrate. I survived cancer last year. Our cancelled March 2020 DL trip was to celebrate that. Then we rescheduled to early July. That was to celebrate cancer-free & us being married for 25 years. That had to be cancelled, too.

I'm to the point where I'm even willing to take my kids out of school for a day or 2 for this. Thanks for listening to my pity party. It helps knowing that some other people "get it."

So I agree with you so much on this. To me this has one really easy solution.... follow the rules. Wear a mask, wash your hands, socially distance, etc... I see people walk out of target and as soon as they are done at the register they have their mask down before they exit the building....

I guess my issue is when it was really bad here in Texas we didn't even meet up with my wifes parents and they only live 20 minutes away. But after 3-4 months we felt we could wear masks, outside, sitting 6-10 feet apart and have picnics in the yard, it gave them what they needed and what our 6 year old needed. But it's just complying and doing what you should.....

People focus on the negatives, instead of the positives in everything. I agree I am heartbroken that 1M people have died, but coming from a medical background, I have never see a unified front in research like we do now. It's amazing to see everyone working together trying to solve this problem in medicine.

So I am wondering if we might see totally different guidelines based on locations. Maybe it won't be as bad as we think, I am hoping cause we go Nov 20th.......

If the criteria is "YELLOW" tier for any reopenings, all of this talk is moot. No county in CA with a theme park will be in "Yellow" tier for months, if ever, before a vaccine.

I totally get that, I am just wondering if that was testing waters, WDW opened way before what would be yellow, seems to be going fine. Here in Texas Six Flags and Sea World opened in what would be red, with super limited capacity, and it's also been going well. I wonder if it might be different based on standards and guidelines from the parks.

If not why would they even keep the 3 resorts open, they can just close and release those employees as well, cause 2 months would be a long time to reopen them.

What if they based people coming in on your zip code for out of state as well. For example I live outside austin, in my zipcode we have only had 12 positive cases all week. They could do something like that?

Unfortunately I think they would take too many resources to keeping track of that, both for the state and the parks. The data is hard enough to do just within CA.
