    Delta - so expensive!

Since we fly out of Boston there's a lot of competition and we almost always fly Delta. It's usually either the least expensive option, or close to it. I also haven't had any trouble using my companion certificate. Overall, I've found airfare is up across the board.

What's no longer good value for money?

Disney World. We've found we can travel to other destinations, for a longer period of time, spend far less money and get better experiences and food.

    Anyone familiar with bone infections?

We have a friend who got a bone infection in his foot. Unfortunately, he did not respond well to the antibiotic therapy and ended up having to have part of his foot amputated to remove the infected bone to keep it from spreading. It's been a long haul and he still has issues with the foot two...

Little things you do to save money?

I work with a woman who eats lunch out every day. She's spending between $10-20 (and sometimes more) a day depending on where she orders from. She sometimes orders breakfast too. Even on the low side if she orders every day for approximately 45 weeks a year (taking into consideration...

Little things you do to save money?

Making my own coffee in the morning, packing a lunch for work, cooking meals at home, stocking up at the grocery stores on sale items (which sometimes means going to several stores), changed all my prescriptions from Walgreens to Walmart (90 day supply at Walmart for $10 vs. $20/month at...

Here we go again. Trip less then 2 weeks now on the line

I feel your pain. We were scheduled to go to Hawaii for three weeks. 2 weeks before the trip we found out DH had to have a pacemaker. Good news is he's doing fine and Hawaii will always be there.

    Prices... sigh.

We haven't been back since 2017. For us, the value just isn't there anymore (and we used to go 2-3x a year, stay on-site, and get the DDP). Once we broke the "bubble" we found we could do a lot of other vacations that were just as much fun and cost less. I'm sure we'll go back at some point...

I always book an aisle seat.

    Tipping in December

I don't tip anyone extra for the holidays. My hairdresser (who's a longtime family friend) gets her normal tip and a tin of homemade cookies (which her family loves) every year, but I'm not tipping the mailman, garbage collectors, delivery drivers, etc. for doing their jobs. Only other people...

Ever had a paycheck that was SUBSTANTIALLY bigger....... by mistake?

No, but i once made a $150 deposit into my checking account but the teller keyed it in as $1500. I noticed it when I got my next bank statement (long before the internet and online banking). I went to the bank to with the statement to report it and they wanted me to jump through hoops to give...

    Exterior house colors

Ours is grey with white trim. It's a 50's cape and it was this color when we bought it and we've continued to keep it as it fits the house.

What cruise line would you recommend besides...

We've cruised Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity, Norwegian, and Holland America. We found the passenger demographics on Princess, Celebrity and Holland America tends to be a bit older. Most of our cruises over the past several years have been on Norwegian. We just like the more...

    Cruise cabin-inside or balcony?

We've sailed in an inside, ocean view, balcony, aft-balcony, and a suite. Prior to covid, I would have said I'd take an inside and cruise more often, but since then I wouldn't sail without a balcony. If we should get sick on the ship and be confined to our room, I would want the balcony to...

Have we reached Peak Pricing at WDW?

Disney hit peak pricing for me years ago. Last trip was in 2017. DH and I went for 2 days after a cruise so he could see Pandora. Every time I've priced out a vacation since then, I've gotten more bang for my buck vacationing in other destinations. This year we're going to Hawaii. We're...

    If You Shop at Goodwill…

All of our local thrift, second-hand, Salvation Army, and Goodwill stores have gone up in prices. Only the Goodwill doesn't give out bags/boxes anymore (they haven't for over a year).

    Holiday in February?

If planning for February keep in mind that the last two weeks of February can be busy. It's winter school break for a lot of schools in the Northeast and WDW is a popular destination to get out of the snow/ice for a week.

Brought Home a Disney Souvenir- COVID

DH came home with it after a cruise in February and I caught it from him. We were both careful. Wore masks on the bus, in the airport, and on the airplane, both coming and going. He was more cautious than I was and wore his whenever he was indoors on the ship. It's definitely still out there.

S/O Poll - retired or not?

DH retired at 60 and is collecting a pension and social security. I could have retired when he did (we originally planned it that way), but at 52 I wasn't ready. I like what I do, we have a great team, I make a very good salary, get 6 weeks vacation and 2 weeks sick time per year, and have a...

    Wedding Gift for Niece?

I'm in central NH and we gave our nieces $250 for my husband and I. However, we're local and didn't need to incur travel expenses. In your case, if it were me, I wouldn't expect anything else as a gift. I think you're fine with $50.
