Hypothetically speaking, let's a say there's a young kid that sometimes gets so involved in the activities that they forget to use the bathroom and has an accident. How tolerant are the counselors about it? I know sanitation and saftey are #1.

I do believe that the expectation is that kids are toilet trained to be in the kids club.

I'm sure they would call parents if an accident happened to come pick up their child and change them.

I know some parents go in every 2 hours to pick up kid and take them to the bathroom just in case. You might want to do that just to be safe if your kiddo is not quite there yet. Saves a lot of headache and spares the other children and staff from messes.

There are bathrooms in the kids club so very accessible.

I was called to come get my kid cleaned up.

He was welcome in the club afterwards, he wasn't banned or anything.

On our last trip I did see a counselor spot a child doing the potty dance and rush him off to the potty.
(They dont' go inside, but they escorted her to the door.)

I am hoping @bbel will chime in here.

When DGD was 3, she had an accident. They have extra clothes on hand (grey knit shorts and white t-shirts) and help the child change into those clothes until pick up time.

This must be a new thing. This is VASTLY different than the policy has EVER been before. Counselors have NEVER been able to assist a child with toileting or dressing in the 5+ years we have been cruising.

My son was changed after an accident last summer. I think they generally like parents to come and do it, but if they can't for any reason the team will of course do it themselves. The alternative would be leaving the child in wet clothes, potentially all day.
I assume they need two staff members to be present for the change, which means that it has a significant impact on the staffing levels across the rooms which is why they are so clear that the child needs to be toilet trained.

I think that there is a difference between children who are not toilet trained and one that has had an unusual accident. The team are experienced enough to know that difference and will respond to the situation appropriately and discuss it with the parents/carers.

If you think that that scenario is likely then the suggestion of visiting regularly to take them out to the toilet is a good idea. Also is visiting the toilets in both the club and the lab with your child during open house prior to them going to the club. I would probably explain the possible consequences of not going to the toilet when they need to. The mere idea of not being able to go back to the club might be enough to make the child extra conscientious.

Oh hi.
It’s been a while but back in the day...

All kids have accidents. I’ve dealt with the higher age end of club too.
A one off isn’t a problem. They will call you to come and change/collect/ask if you want them changed.
They have basic shorts and one size fits no one tshirts (so if the get changed they’re probably not going to be comfortable). Also, if they get changed in the club, occasionally they may have to wait a little, as 2 counsellors have to be free to do it, and if your familiar with the club/lab doesn’t matter if your kids the only one in, they can’t move from their position to go help, so if it’s busy they may insist you come and collect, and they will ask you to come if shoes get wet and unwearable as they have to have them on.

Usually a note is put in the system (unlike another company which have actual ‘potty strikes’) which will keep a record of it all cruise, so they can see if it’s a one off or becoming a habit. If it becomes a habit then the nursery is usually the only other option.

Just don’t try and sneak in the diaper/pull up/ lady’s sanitary towel (yes I’ve seen one on a 3 year old boy in a desperate attempt to get around the rules lol), even if you think your doing the counsellors a favour...

Not too new. I started back in 2013 and we’ve always been allowed to change kids that need the help (some kids just need the clean clothes and can do themselves/when they are helped they are pretty much just talked through it and highly encouraged to do it all themselves). There have to be two counsellors inside the bathroom and one outside so it’s not encouraged because there usually just isn’t enough staff free.

They won’t however help with general toileting.

That was our experience from 2011 too. The T-shirt was grey though and said something like “property of DCL”. Our son was so embarrassed but the CMs said look you get a souvenir T-shirt!

My 3 year old DD had an accident last Sept at Lilo's Playhouse. My DH had only given them his cell phone number (not mine too) and then lost his phone in R&R. We did eventually find it but we missed the call about DD having an accident. They changed my DD into clean clothes that were a very cheap material but we didn't have to pay extra or anything for them.

Where is Lilo's Playhouse?

Ah sorry I didn't realize this was in the DCL forum. It was one of the WDW Kids' Clubs (childcare) that closed. Lilo's Playhouse was at the Poly, I think the only one that exists now is the new Toy Story one at the Contemporary.

My wife and I were on the inaugural Bermuda cruise this fall. One of our daughters and her family joined us. Our daughter ended up spending most of the stay in Bermuda in a hospital, so my wife and I ended up staying on the ship with the grandkids while our son-in-law stayed with our daughter at the hospital until she was released. The grandkids wanted to spend most of the time in the kids club. When we were dropping off one of the girls, she apparently had waited too long and had an accident. The had some grey short to loan her. They let me go back to the bathroom to help her, but made sure that no other kids were in the room, and that she was OK with me helping. Whenever one the the kids club staff was in the bathroom with us, they made sure that there were two of them.
