I'm not saying they should. I'm saying the residents of that state let that become the norm through the officials they elected. Until this becomes a codified amendment/law, we will keep going in circles.
Speaking from experience, socialised health care is a mixed blessing. Everyone caring for everyone else, picking up the slack when needed so everyone has access to care is a great thing. It has saved my butt dozens of times. But people quickly get disenfranchised with the tax increases that come with such a system. Cake, eat it, etc.

This is what most don't understand.

Some of the ones mentioned above. Military spending and capitalistic opportunities.

Pardon me, but what does military cost have anything to do with the amount of money spent per head on healthcare?

Interesting point: it would appear that now record numbers of Americans are visiting European countries such as Spain for intricate health care options; this is also true for the UK too. I'll cite sources tonight or tomorrow, whenever I'm awake enough to find it!

It takes away from what we spend on our citizens. We have to because of the threats we have from big nations that don't like NATO and AUKUS. Europeans (like soccer stars) come to the USA for treatment to not have to wait in line in their own countries.

Again, I don't follow. If you spend more on one thing, surely you would spend less on another? Unless you just print money? Simple maths. Besides, in this case it would be a mutual number. Why is it that Americans pay more to stay healthy than any other country in the world? It's not as if you carry out more advanced procedures routinely. I know for a fact that if I were to immigrate to America, my insurance bill would be crippling for my Clozapine, MAOIs and APs. And following on from that, wouldn't it be logical to deduce that the health system in America is inferior to many other countries in the world, where people don't have to pay so much for more advanced procedures?

Our pharmacies, hospitals, health service workers charge more because their bills are higher due to drug prices and treatments not fully funded by the government. Laissez-faire is the simplest form I can say this.

Maybe to you. But not to some. Don’t watch much news but haven’t heard of anything bad happening to any one living legally in the USA in the last few weeks.
Uh, what?

I was going to stay out of this thread but in the last week there have been multiple mass shootings.
People in Baltimore- site of Fort Mc Henry - were shot during a neighborhood block party on July 1. It was supposed to be a celebration. Half the victims were - once again - children.

Baltimore is a very patriotic, very American city. As of 2020, 95.4% of Baltimore, MD residents were US citizens, which is higher than the national average of 93.4%.

I don't think their citizenship status matters, but I think it is extremely likely American citizens were injured in Baltimore and the other multiple mass tragedies.

Access to women's health care cannot be simplified into those who do and don't agree with abortion/birth control. Procedures like simple D&C are not being done where they are medically needed because D&C can also be used for abortion. Gotta tell ya- I'm not happy to bleed out from a true gynecological issue because some law makers have created a "rat out your doctor" situation, where they can question the use of D&C for anything- because the MD might be lying and instead performing an abortion. Obstetrics and gyn departments/wards all over the country have been shutting down because of the liability, because they don't want to have to make last minute life-and-death decisions during a delivery because they are afraid of being arrested for doing what is medically necessary. It's NOT just about birth control and abortion, it's about my health care, which should be between me and my doctor.

Happens in Canada. Trudeau did not win the popular vote. Probably the same in all the countries based on the UK model.
Thanks I didn’t know that. Have always heard that no other democratic countries have a similar system to the US electoral college. Will research further. Still, I think it is an antiquated and unfair system. In attempting to equalize the votes of smaller states, I believe it actually penalizes those of us in more populated states. Simply put, our votes are diluted and thus carry less weight. I know plenty of people who don’t bother to vote because they feel that their votes don’t count. That’s a shame.

231 replies and the only conclusion is that some people like "God Bless the USA" and others can't stand it.
Can most Americans agree that pizza, hot dogs and cheeseburgers taste good? I feel that would be a step forward at this rate.

I totally agree. But to play devils advocate (just for arguments sake), those who don't want the government to have a say/control their medical procedures/healthcare often want the government to fully pay for it too.

Edit: I don't personally believe this. I'm just putting another perspective out there in regards to the issue.
