Another lovely day in Oklahoma. . .

Really beautiful ::yes::::yes::

I'm one of the weirdos that loves our landscape. Though eastern KS is different than western KS for sure.

.
Well, if you like it flat you should skip visiting me in Calgary and go to the Canadian province of Saskatchewan instead. It's 900 mikes long and 400 mikes wide and so flat you can see all four corners from the middle! Hope ya like wheat fields! :wave2:

This bus trip was an experiment to see if we could do a longer one than a day trip.
It was wonderful! The only negative was the size of the seats on the bus!! :(

However, after a short while aboard it was announced that we could take any of the empty seats. :goodvibes There were next to no takers, probably because the other passengers talk to one another, and Dh and I do not having been married soo.. long. :teeth: Actually, it's because we enjoy listening to our favourite radio stations as opposed to the many different conversations around us. We snagged diagonal seats. We had our own window, arm rests, and our snack bag between us. :thumbsup2

A Bingo game was played on the way up North, and a movie on the way home. pixiedust:

Glad to hear you had another successful trip, Jane! The hotel pics are great. Looks like a nice place to stay.

Our first trip to the mountains this season was nice and peaceful. However, it was HOT and the leaves had not yet begun to turn. I did very little hiking because my ankle was still injured. Instead I spent time on the couch propping it up, icing it, and looking at the mountains from the window. We played board games and worked a couple of puzzles, too. The creeks and ponds were all too low for fishing, too, because the area has not had enough rain the past few months. I think we need to visit later in October next time. Oh, I made friends with a puppy that lived down the road from where we were staying. I got a pic of him since he visited everyday. Ridiculously cute. If I can get it from my phone to here in a timely manner, I will share the little guy with you. Now I'm in puppy withdrawal and want my own. We had a dog for 17 years. He died a few years ago. Losing him broke our hearts, and we have not yet talked about getting another. I think I could be persuaded now if the right one came along.

Nice pictures Mackenzie Click Mickelson! Glad you had a great time even in the wake of those horrific shootings.

Yes, Vegas is a lot of fun! Went many years but we usually stayed downtown at the Golden Nugget. Loved the shark pool! I bet the Neon Boneyard was fascinating!
Thank you!

My mom told me about the times that she stayed at the Golden Nugget with my dad. Slightly funny story. My husband actually got carded at one of the casinos (can't remember which one) down in Fremont Street :rotfl:. We've never ever been carded at casinos before and that was the only time he was. It was quite funny if only slightly annoying to have to get out his ID.

Neon Boneyard was fascinating. Hearing about the rich history of Vegas was really cool plus seeing iconic signs (like the Stardust).

I found that I enjoyed the penny slots more than the quarter and the quarter slots were mostly what I had been playing before whenever I went to the casinos (which hasn't been much really).

Wheat fields!! Heck yeah lol (one of our nicknames is the Wheat State). We've got that and soy beans and a lot of corn fields too (which I feel soy beans and corn are a lot more common than wheat nowadays lol at least right around me).

My husband went to Saskatchewan once though for work. His company (well his district I should say) builds and retrofits powerplants and they were there inspecting a powerplant in the process of being built. Admittedly he did say he was out in the middle of nowhere. I have to say seeing all four corners from the middle..that sounds intriguing if only to say I've done that lol.

So sorry that you had a foot injury that affected your trip to the mountains. Glad that it was peaceful, and that you met a new friend, and their puppy. Look forward to seeing your phone picture in a timely fashion or not, we here are use to untimely too! Right jevs?!

Best wishes with your decision to puppy/dog again. Also, heal well umm... your foot not the dog. Tee! Hee! :dog:

Welp I so did not mean to leave this thread for so long after having just joined the thread. I wasn't getting alerts on certain threads for a while despite having visited them recently enough and then I got superbusy. I'm sorry guys :( But I've enjoyed catching up on the various trips, updates and unfortunate malfunctions of things we own that posters have experienced :)

Soooo tons of news: We did end up going on our WDW trip DURING Irma. We got to Orlando on September 8th and extended our trip by a day and left the night of September 18th to make up the two Universal days we lost out on. Thankfully none of our WDW plans got messed up in the sense of ADRs or FPs because Sunday September 10th and Monday September 11th were our planned Universal days. Instead of arriving and relaxing at Disney Springs on September 8th we high-tailed it over to Universal as I had a feeling before the hurricane even got here that due to the timing at least Sunday and Monday the parks would be closed. On our last day, the 18th we went briefly monorail resort hopping and then to Disney Springs. I've been having a heck of a time getting photos off my phone for my trip report but I just got the perfect device to do so. I've got to get the photos off my husband's phone before I start my trip report...but it's coming soon :hyper:

We also went to Vegas on October 2nd-October 9th; it was a business trip extended to a vacation. We landed, as I mentioned in my above post, not too long really after the whole shooting occurred at the Strip. There was increased police presence for probably 3 or 4 days but after that they were gone. There was a slightly somber mood but there were still plenty of people out and about on the Strip. We stayed at Hilton Grand Vacations (on Paradise) which is just behind the Strip and towards the Stratosphere. We weren't nervous while we were there but we were just a bit extra cautious ourselves. We got to see Blue Man Group and KA (cirque show) as well as touring the Neon Boneyard which is where you can see prior signs (some still able to be lit) from the Vegas Strip.

We also went to Hoover Dam but due to an elevator malfunction they've been having for weeks now they weren't doing tours of the inner workings of the dam :( We also went to Red Rock Canyon which is quite beautiful.

Great report! You will not soon forget the circumstances of those trips. We went to Virginia Beach during the first few days of deployments (Gulf War) and, it was bittersweet. We were laying on the beach while planes flew off to the Gulf Region. We ate in restaurants while families hugged their service family goodbye. In Newport News our motel manager had his dress uniform hanging up in his car. He left before we did, the experience is never far from my thinking.

Lest We Forget!
