Did you like Vegas or is it just me?

I am a huge Disney fan and have "dragged" DH to the world 8 times. Sooo, I finally gave in and went to Las Vegas for our anniversary three years ago. I had a blast. I don't enjoy gambling or drinking but loved Vegas. We stayed at Treasure Island. DH gambled while I read and sunned at the pool. Saw Mystere and the Wax Museum (Venetian is my favorite). We rented a car for one day and drove to Mandalay Bay for the aquarium and to see the resorts down there then to Rio for the seafood buffet. We drove out to Red Rock Canyon too. It was so beautiful. We were there late afternoon and saw the sun set.
We went back last year and stayed at The Flamingo. Great location!! Most everything in walking distance. Went to old Vegas by taxi one evening. This was very fun! Can't wait for my next trip in fall of 07.
Who knew?!

We liked it. We stayed at the Venetian and we loved it. Although we are not gamblers, we do donate to the slots here & there. We saw "O" and that was amaing! Went to the Wax Museum, to all the hotels, and "people watched" alot!:lmao: We also walked ALOT! Everythin looks like it's just up the street a little bit, NOT!:confused3

We had a car so if we didn't feel like walking, we could drive. Valet Parkin is free, so why not?

I would go back.

We loved Vegas. Stayed at Caesars and it is the best. Best location great amenities. Could easily be convinced to move from Australia to LA just to be near Disney and Vegas!!

And you don't have to be a gambler to enjoy it. Every hotel is virtually its own theme park :thumbsup2

We loved Vegas, probably more then LA last year. We went to Vegas for a week and saw most of the hotels and saw Barry Manilow, which was fantastic! Would love to go back

I'm with you gail - Vegas is not for me either.

Visited in August for a few days and am set for life. Hubby loves it and will be back there in March

Lots of my friends don't care for Vegas but we love it. I have stayed at Mandolay Bay - that was my first trip and I was pretty much by myself - I had SO Much fun! Drank a little (not a big drinker but do one a day in Vegas) - played lots of slots, won some, lost some, came home about even. Shopping is fabulous in Vegas.

After that we started staying at the Golden Nugget downtown - once we stayed at Main Street Station (this is a HIDDEN GEM - very inexpensive and so fun!!). The Nugget is not cheap but now that they "know" us we get a good deal there. We buy the bus day passes on CAT they are five dollars apiece - then we go up and down the strip all we want for no additional charge. Please note that we do this even though we DRIVE to Vegas and have free parking! LOL - WEll we like the bus - you kind of get into it that way. We always walk each side of the strip - then we drive one day "off site" to Sam's Town and some of the Station casinos plus sightsee non casino stuff. We also drive to the outlet mall to load up on disneyana and wedgwood china.

We usually go to Penn and Teller but no other shows - although we "did" Wayne Newton a few years ago - I was all bald from chemo - and he was Wonderful and kissed every single woman in the house! Amazing and corny but so loving! I have also attended a couple of doll shows there, and one year we were there during the national rodeo championships= the golden nugget is a big cowboy hotel anyway, but this was amazing - with all the guests in the hats and the ladies in fabulous jewelled western wear - WOW> Another year we were there around December near Christmas and they had a cool Santa run for a health cause - the Santas (hundreds of 'em in santa hats) ran down the strip - it was nice because fewer cars for a while! it was on a Sunday morning.

Anyway, as you can see, I can go on and on about Vegas, just like Disney! lol

Hope you like your next trip better!

I've only been to Vegas once. We went with our sons who were 14 and 16 at the time so our trip was centered around finding things that the boys could enjoy, too.

This June I will be going with my Mom and sisters and not DH and boys....have a feeling it will be a different trip this time!!:rolleyes1 :teeth:

I have been to Las Vegas twice and honestly don't care if I go back again. DH and I went together and I went on a girls only weekend another time. I enjoyed the shows, but casinos just aren't my thing and the fancy shops were way, way out of my price range ...

I love Vegas for a couple days. We've been many times and feel like staying on the strip is the way to go! Now that we have kids and need strollers, it's not quite the same.

We often fly in there and then drive to Zion, Arches, etc. for a trip. Airfare into Vegas if often cheap compared to the surrounding areas and I love the food there. We don't gamble, but we walk for miles eating along the way. Love the patisserie in Paris!!! Enjoy the shows and the general atmosphere, there is nothing quite like it.

I live in Las Vegas. I stay away from the strip as much as possible.
This would not be a vacation destination for me.
I prefer Disney Resorts and National Parks.

I love Vegas but I except it for its surreal nature. It is a strange city, with lights sounds, drinking, gambling, theme park designs and weird stuff every where to be seen.

I live a 3 hour drive away so I go fairly regularly I have stayed

Excalibur
Venetian
Sahara
Fitzgeralds (downtown)
Circus Circus (when I was a kid)
Harah's
New York, New York

and many more I can't remember.

I have only had one bad experience (won't go into that but stay at a reputable hotel and always have reservations when HUGE conventions are in town). I liked all of these hotels for different reasons but would have to say that the Venetian was the nicest, NY the most convient, and many of the others were great for price.

Most people who don't like Vegas just aren't into gambling, drinking or the shows and honestly besides roller coasters and shopping there isn't that much else to do (though DH loves the arcades and there are some neat musuems). That is unless you do some of the cool day trips mentioned away from the strip. Which can be expensive.

Overall Vegas is a trip I think everyone should do and is a great trip because you can do it on almost any budget.

Would I chose Disney over Vegas probably but I love them for different reasons and need to go do both VERY soon!!

I love Vegas.....we have been there twice and stayed at Aladdin and the Bellagio. When we have gone, it was for four days......as much as I loved it, that was plenty of time! :thumbsup2

I went in March 2006 for an event and I wasn't impressed. I had fun though till my friend ended up getting sick and stuck in the hospital. She missed our flight and had to rebook. I offered to stay with her and she said to go home.

If you go to Vegas again you should stay at The Mirage/ Caesars Palace... those are in the thick of the action.. so to speak.

I'm not a gambler either.. but everytime we go to LV we like to shop (caesars palace, Fashion Place, Venetian) as well as watching the Bellagio fountains.. I have walked to all those places before so it is do-able.

Just got back from Vegas yesterday. Definately glad I went and we enjoyed a number of things we did, but I don't see us going back anytime soon. Just isn't us. DH doesn't gamble at all and I stick to the penny slots. :) Loved looking at the different hotels, saw Blue Man Group which was awesome, also did the Star Trek Experience which we loved. Stayed at Harrah's (DH was there for a conference and it was one of the conference hotels). Nice clean room and loved being in the middle of the strip. Didn't care for the pool area at all (way too small) and the casino was a bit too loud and flashy for my taste. If we were to go back I think we'd stay at Bellagio, MGM or Ceasar's.

The only place I love going to more then Vegas is WDW. I was in Vegas four times last year and I am planning three for this year. So far I have stayed at:

Bellagio
Wynn
Ballys
TI

Most of my trips are with my wife who loves the shopping and does not like to gamble. It works out perfect, she shops and I play poker. On my last trip I actually did a 14 hour shift at a TI poker table.

My favorite buffets:

Wynn (for Sunday brunch)
Paris
Bellagio (Breakfast - for great pancakes and French Toast).

Best hotel experience:

Wynn (room on the tower suites side)
Bellagio (where my wife and I stayed when we were married)

Best show (have not seen many):

Ka

Best Vegas experience:

1) Getting married
2) Calling my mom from the Paris lobby, telling her I am in Vegas and just got married

Next Vegas trip:

June 28 - July 2nd staying at the Bellagio in a fountain view room (2 weeks after our 5th anniversary).

I can take Vegas a bit at a time. Max amount of days for me is 3. We don't go that often as we have a 12 yo boy, and it really is not a super family destination.

That said, we are headed there in a few weeks! We got $50 rt and $70 a night lodging at MGM, so the family is headed there for 2 nights. Play in the pool, and enjoy the 110+ temps! :scared1:
