Have you ever met a celebrity or public figure in person?

As some of you know - I'm pretty big into politics for the last 25 years with the state of Illinois, I've met tons of people, (I was a scheduler for two governors). Anyway - my favorite and most memorable meet (celebrity or politician) was George W Bush. I was working check in at a mega fundraiser for him at a downtown hotel ballroom. Once check in was over, we all go to our table (volunteers in the back, by the kitchen of course) , W arrives (he wasn't there through cocktail hour) and he pretty much make a beeline for our table. He introduces himself (LOL, um, hello, we know who you are).. and say "my momma always taught me to make sure to stop by the worse table in the room, all the way in the back to say thank you to the volunteers, they're the ones getting all the work done.... So I try to do it first thing, before time gets away from me".

We've met a lot of celebrities for various reasons, but our favorite was Will Ferrell. Really nice, down to earth dude.
I don't have any celebrity encounters to share, but I've heard more than once Will Ferrell is the nicest guy in show business.

I met John Dorenbos after one of his shows. He was the long snapper for the Philadelphia Eagles and he was one of the runner ups on America's Got Talent. As I was standing in line to meet him, I wondered if he would meet my DS, who had cancer. The woman standing next to me told me to go pick him up. She was sure he'd meet him after Dorenbos was talking about visiting other kids with cancer. I told her that my DS was 22 and could drive himself. I texted my DS and he came to see us.

I had already gotten to take a photo and I got some pictures. I told him that I'd be getting back into line so that my DS could meet him, and I told him about Ivan's illness. He told me to cut the line and he'd be happy to meet him.

Ivan arrives and we break the line. Dorenbos talks to him and I take some pictures of them. He grabs my phone and films a selfie video with my DS!

It's still on my phone and I show it to other Eagles fans.

He is truly one of the nicest and most motivational people you'd ever meet!

THAT GUY IS THE BEST!!! Would love to meet him. Long time Eagles fan and he just seems like a cool positive person to be around.

I've "run into" a lot more than I've spoken to...the first was "meeting" Meat Loaf when he did a meet-and-greet at the mall where I worked. He was brought in through the employee entrance of my store, so I went back there and asked him to sign my cassette. He did it without even looking at me.

I also met Ricky Moore and Rip Hamilton from the 1999 UConn Huskies basketball team. Hugged them, too ;)

The ones I didn't speak to:
1986 on a bus trip to Pennsylvania, Howard Cosell was in the booth across from us at a restaurant.
8th grade class trip to Europe, walked past Bob Dylan on a sidewalk in Switzerland.
At the gate at the airport, waiting to pick up my grandmother, Matt Damon sat down across from me. Had to be before 2001, as it was when you could go through without a ticket to greet someone.
2010, at the New England Pirate Museum in Salem, MA, I was standing right next to Shaquille O'Neal and didn't even know it.

And, at 2 different concerts, I was acknowledged by John Taylor and Simon LeBon from Duran Duran.

Being a huge fan of Star Trek and Doctor Who I met many, many of the stars of those shows at conventions. From Star Trek, George Takei was so kind to everyone who lined up to see him. As I recall, he stayed after his autograph time was up to keep signing for everyone who was in the line. Lovely man. From Doctor Who Paul McGann was sooooo fabulous and nice. A friend of mine was also a friend of his from running his official fan club and had told him about me after he wanted to know who was doing the portraits of him in the fanzines. So, I got to go to tea with him and some of my friends. He was a gorgeous man in person (I'm so shallow), and was very patient and kind and talked to all of us in turn like we were old friends, and took photos. Really nice guy.

My uncle was a lighting guy on Crazy for You at the Shubert theater, in the 90's when they really started pulling in celebs to headline shows and sell tickets.

I met Harry Groener and Jodi Benson when they were the leads in the show. Harry was THE NICEST every time I saw him. Jodi....I wish I could say the same.

Met Bebe Neuwirth when she was doing Damn Yankees. We chatted for a couple of minutes while I was waiting for my uncle at the deli/market near the theater. She ended up asking me to get her something off a tall shelf (she's tiny) and was very kind.

Met Ben Affleck in Boston at a club, he was super nice and chatted with our group for a half hour or so..he was also SUPER drunk and I think checked into rehab a few days afterward lol.

Met a few celebs at various cons, but my two favorites will always be Marina Sirtis (who rubbed my pregnant belly and was the sweetest person ever) and Joyce DeWitt (I kept randomly running into her on the show floor after we had met at her table, it became a running joke the whole day. Super fun lady).

I have rarely gone out of my way to meet celebrities, and if I see them I usually don't bother them.

One time my mom and sister were trying to order a gift for me of a signed Marvel Comics print that was being sold on a home shopping channel. They had Stan Lee himself on the show, and when my mom called, they asked if they could put her on the air to talk to him. She said that her son would love to talk to him, so they raced into my room and told me to, "talk to Stan Lee." I had no idea what was going on, but it was awesome. He talked to me like I was about 7 years old, though I was in college at the time. It ruined the surprise of the gift of course, but it was worth it. I still have that print hanging over my bed.

I met Stan another time at a signing he was doing for a new Marvel video game at an electronics expo. I took the time to say hi. I also saw Adam West at that same expo, but I did not get to meet him as the line was too long and I was there on business after all. The guy standing next to me as he came out just said, "Dude, that's Batman!"

James Brown - On a plane, just said hi.
Norman Schwarzkopf - I had lunch with him at a deployed location during Desert Storm.
Evander Holyfield (twice) - I was in the Orange Bowl parade on the float before his. We watched some performers practicing before the parade and talked. I saw him again at a gym in Atlanta a few months later, and he was nice enough to pretend he remembered me.
Collective Soul - I was at a small dinner party with them in Atlanta, just as they were starting to get radio play. Fun guys. We drank wine and played games all night.
Boog Powell (former Major League Player and AL MVP) - I had actually met his daughter once at a bar with friends, then a year or more later I was delivering a package to his house in the Keys. I told him I had met his daughter, and it turns out she was there, and I hung out and talked with them a while.
Jimmy Buffett - Another package delivery in the Keys. It was very brief, but still cool.
During still more package deliveries in the Keys, I met three Pulitzer Prize winners in the space of seven minutes (I still have a copy of the delivery record) - James Merrill, Richard Wilbur, and John Hersey
John McCain - I spent a whole day in his offices in the mid-90s. Very nice guy.
Martina Navratilova and her dog - Nice. I didn't realize it was her until my friends told me afterwards.
Brian Lara - "The Michael Jordan of Cricket." Someone introduced us at a big party in Trinidad, and I talked with him a little. Nice guy.
I played high school football with and against a few guys that made it to the NFL. One friend from my team also had a couple stints as a NFL head coach and is still an offensive coordinator.

ETA: My college rowing team stayed on the same hotel floor as the band Missing Persons. We saw them around but didn’t really interact. I don’t think they liked us.

Truly, he seemed like the kind of guy you could invite to dinner and laugh and talk with all night, as if you'd been friends forever.

I forgot - I also met Joe Frazier when he showed up at a club I was working at. (We live near the Boxing Hall of Fame.) He was nice enough, but really was more interested in selling his autographed photos.

During the HS and college (mid-80s - early 90s) I worked in a restaurant in a resort area below a club, so I waited on performers from time to time. The ones that come to mind are Laura Branigan, Taveres, Cheap Trick, Jack Wagner...Jack demonstrated some poor judgement ordering the seafood crepes against all of our recommendations - worst thing on the menu - but otherwise a nice guy. Same area but at my other job at the cotton candy stand, I served Peter Tork a hot dog - very nice guy!

I met Barbara Bush, also while a server at a restaurant but different place - I recall that she was very gracious to all the waitstaff.

I met Adam Ant at an appearance in the 90s - that was fun!

My husband tells me that a movie production staring Ryan Reynolds has rented out his office parking lot as a staging area because they are filming at the old armory next door. I'm wondering if he'll hire me as a temp so maybe I can come back in a few weeks and say I met Ryan Reynolds! Doubt it...

Celebrity chef Rachael Ray about 15 years ago. She was appearing at some type of food event at an Atlantic City casino. We didn't attend the event, but DW and I noticed her walking with her entourage towards the gift shop where she signed copies of her then current cookbook. We bought a copy and she autographed it. She was nice, but then again she was being paid to be nice at the time. I heard later that she could be nasty.

Former Philadelphia Flyers broadcaster Gene Hart. Once while he was renting a car at the MSP airport next to us. Apparently he didn't travel with the team for that game; he probably took the same flight as us. He was with his wife and we chatted for a minute. A year later he wrote a book about the Flyers. I got it as a Christmas gift and he autographed it after a game the Flyers played in Buffalo.

I believe that. Of all the celebs we've met, our encounter with him stood out. We attended a dinner and golf event with him and his wife. His speech at the event was just lovely and he and his wife were so kind when we interacted with them.

At Yak n Yeti ... ran into Governor Huckabee and his entire family. A large group.
First saw President Trumps Press Secretary, Sarah Sanders ( who looked relaxed and appeared so down to earth and so much smaller than I thought, lol)
She was separated from her father and I made eye contact with her and the other female with her. It was obvious to me ... with what looked like imploring eyes that I not speak out/up. It was kind of funny.. obviously knew I recognized her. I respected that and said nothing aloud. Would have likely just said... have a Magical visit lol.
The Governor on the other hand.. was walking by, so on the QT...we just said Thank you For his service to the country.
He then thanked us for the support, patted the hubby on his back.
AWEsome!

Peter Mayhew and his lovely wife, they spent 30 minutes talking to my wife and I about shooting the Star Wars movies, and Ray Park who is Darth Maul spent an hour talking to us about how we should put our son in Karate, and he loved it!

literally just ran into Gary Sinise and Carroll O'Connor , they both were friendly especially Gary Sinise

In 2013 I ran the WDW Marathon as did Joey Fatone- we chatted about it at our resort (YC) limping through the lobby.

Just a few weeks ago I met Joey McIntyre from New Kids on the Block. He was in Waitress the musical in NYC and we met him after the show. Growing up a huge NKOTB fan, I was geeking out big time and just in shock. He patiently met everyone, signed autographs, and took photos. We were very close to the end of the line, so you could see he just wanted to get home. I still can't believe it!

DD and I used to watch a show called Breaking Pointe. It was about professional ballet dancers out of Salt Lake City, UT. I liked a few of the dancers' FB pages and a couple of them started doing a summer dance intensive. DD decided she wanted to audition and we were so excited when she made it. I remember at orientation, the dancers walked in and she and I were both star struck. She worked with them for 2 weeks, even got to partner dance with one of them a few times, and she said they were truly the nicest people. I got to meet them too after the end of the program and they truly were just lovely. I contacted the head of the program last summer when we realized DD couldn't do the intensive a second time, and she emailed me personally to tell me if we're ever in SLC, she'd love to see us.
