Mickey's Halloween Party and Halloween Time Superthread 2018!!

How do they kick out non-party people out of the parks?
They don't specifically kick them out. What they do is start roping off certain areas and if you don't have a wristband you can't enter the area or ride any rides. Eventually the guests without wrist bands will leave as they can't do much or go anywhere but toward the front of the park.

All party guests are given wrist bands when they enter the gates. Once the party starts, CMs make the sweep looking for wristbands. They will be stationed at the entrance to all lands, at the ride entrances, at the restroom entrances, at restaurants, on the parade route, throughout the TOT trails, etc. You'll see them frequently at the start of the party and then here and there throughout the night. They'll ask to see wristbands (which are pretty visible) and escort anyone who cannot show one to the front gates. We've seen people being escorted out -- CMs aren't rude, but are definitely firm.

Random question, does your AP discount work during the party? I know for Blue bayou package you can't use it, but if I were to buy merchandise at the party can I use it? Not sure if the rules change for special event.

Our AP discount worked last year, if I remember rightly. At least, I don't remember it not working. I think it's worked every year at the party wherever it works normally, but not at ODV (as usual). By the way, where does it say that the AP discount doesn't apply for the MHP BB dinner package? I'm looking at the DLR webpage description and don't see anything there that states the AP discount doesn't apply.

  • Price: $72 per adult and $29 per child, plus tax and gratuity (discounts do not apply)
It just says discounts, so I assumed they lumped in the AP discount. Maybe AP's can use it still then? This is my first year having an AP so I'm still learning the ropes of everything.

How odd! The AP discounts do apply for things like the F! dining packages at BB. Hmmmm... Well, that just makes me more certain that we won't be using our party time at BB! Last year we walked up to a bench in Town Square about 15 minutes before the parade and had the whole bench to ourselves -- no expensive dinner necessary (and the BB dinner says the reserved section is standing room only). I think we'll be using our MHP time enjoying the party offerings and find ourselves seated viewing spots for the parade. BB can wait for a non-party night when we'll be able to use our AP discount!

As others have said, your AP discount will work for merchandise and food (where applicable) during the party hours. AP discounts for dining packages vary depending on the package, some allow you to use your AP discount, others do not.

Maybe too early, but does anyone know if the characters will be in different outfits than last year? I'm really hoping to see Donald as a vampire or devil... oddly specific request, I know, but it would make my partners Halloween perfect
They haven't made any announcements about character costumes this year, but I believe Donald was dressed as a devil last year on Buena Vista Street during the day. It wasn't the typical red outfit, but kind of a 20's style devil. I couldn't find any photos in my archive, but I found one from DisneyGeek.

To piggy back on that, are all regular characters available during the party in addition to the villains? Princesses? Thanks!
Last year, the guide listed Disney Pirate Pals, Disney Princesses (at Fantasy Faire), Disney Villains, Winnie the Pooh & Friends, Mickey & Minnie, Friends from Aladdin, and Jack Skellington & Sally as available characters. I believe there were others characters as well, but those were the "announced" ones.

Quick question: was double checking the costume rules (partner still hasn't decided costume!!) and noticed this small print.

Guests ages 14 and older may not wear costumes in Disney California Adventure Park on the day of the event or in Disneyland Park if entering before the commencement of the event.

I take it this means before the 3/4pm pre party start time and it's okay to wear a costume in DCA from this time? Wording is a bit odd and so I thought I'd ask the group!

I think it means that technically that guests are 1) not allowed to wear costumes in DCA at any time during the day and 2) not allowed to wear costumes in Disneyland prior to 3 or 4 pm (depending on when the party starts). In practices, I've seen guests wearing costumes in both parks once the party tickets are valid. It really doesn't make sense to make guests change out of their costumes to park hop. However, I suspect this is just to cover their bases because day guests are not allowed to wear costumes in DCA and MHP is technically in DL and not DCA. So the different costumes rules for MHP would only apply to DL.

That definitely sounds like what they're going for but agree that it's not really practical. Tbh, I'm only really interesting in going to DCA in order to grab some Pixar pier photos while dressed as Joy. I'd be pretty gutted if I couldn't. Not end of the world I suppose.

Well, in reality, I've been able to wear a costume anytime starting at probably noon in either park. In fact, I've sometimes taken Halloween costume photos by going to DL early afternoon on a party day (when I don't even have party tickets) and taking pics in front of the castle! Sooooo, I don't think they really enforce this.

ETA: I don't mean to sound like a rule-breaking jerk, so to clarify: I'd had a friend tell me years ago that "you can wear costumes at the parks on party days" and never even questioned it. I hadn't been to a party at that point and hadn't seen the tickets/costume timing disclaimer...

Looks like Sept 28th is sold out online. Sept 21st is the only Friday party left

Since MHP is only in DL, there is no need for separate turnstiles at DCA. Party guests can use the regular turnstiles at DCA for entry because the MHP tickets will scan like regular park hopper tickets there. Entry at DCA will start once the early entry hours start on your given party day, either 3 pm or 4 pm.
Ok, that makes sense.

But does a line still have to form at DCA for guests that can't enter until the designated time? We were planning to be there 30-45 minutes before the time so we could get in asap, and hopefully snag a maxpass for Monsters After Dark. What's going to be our best strategy for that?

I have purchased Halloween tickets and looks like now I will not be using them- I was thinking of calling Disney to ask to have them refunded (I know they say non-refundable/non-transferable) I was just wondering if anyone has had any luck doing this?

Maxpass/fastpass Distribution for The "monsters after Dark" version of GOTG started around 3pm last year. If they keep it the same I highly recommend being at the ready at 3:00 pm to snag them as they go quick, which means your pass will need to have been activated at entry for maxpass reservations. IMO since guardians after dark isnt a MHP exclusive I usually did those on non party days so that I could be sure to be at the ready around 2:58 pm to snag a maxpass on my app. expect wait time for FP and MP lines ones you return for your time slots to resemble alot like Radiator spring racers. sometimes it moves efficiently sometimes it crawls.

This is a very popular attraction. Last year we went to get a FP for this. We got in line at 2pm just in case maxpass didnt work. The line was extremely long. It went all the way through bugsland. Right at 3pm we tried using max pass and it crashed! Some people in line were able to get one and others like us stayed in line. Fast passes were all gone in about 15 minutes. If I we're you I would be prepared. Be the first one in line so you can get in the gate and right after your ticket is scanned book youryour maxpass right at 3pm. I would be there an hour in advance to ensure your the first in or go on a non party night and be in line at 2pm.
