Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part V!

Has anyone seen any Disney cakes with regular sprinkles? Not the Mickey head ones... I was thinking we'd do a 6 inch cake and if I had my choice, it would be similar to this one (without the topper obvs):

The Mickey sprinkles won't give as tight of a look. :/

I also love the look of this but haven't come across anything similar from the Disney bakery:

I've spent waaaay too much time scrolling through cake threads and haven't come across anything similar but I may have missed it or they may just not be willing to do them. The sprinkle cake seems fairly easy from a labor/talent standpoint but I am the world's worst baker so what do I know?

Anyone seen them create something similar?

Yes, the Grand Floridian Pastry Team has created both these looks for Disney's Fairy Tale Wedding cakes. I don't see why the Contemporary couldn't as well.

I've not yet seen photos similar to either one of those, but will be interested to hear if anyone has experience with them! For the first cake, if you ask the CR bakery, it might help to describe the decorations as nonpareils. They might think sprinkles are the tiny short tube-shaped candies instead of the dots. And the nonpareils (the dots) definitely create a more smooth look! In any event, I've always enjoyed working with the CR bakery - sending those photos should definitely help. And they are quick about letting me know what they can and cannot do - or checking on it and providing a timeline for getting an answer!

Amateur baker here - to be more specific, the round sprinkles are called nonpareils. When you call and ask, if you use that instead of the word "sprinkles" it might help clarify exactly what it is you're looking for.

Thank you both! If it's crunchy and colorful, I just call it all sprinkles :rotfl: That will definitely be better to communicate to them with the right terminology!

Thank you! I'll reach out and see where I get :goodvibes

Hi all! We are staying at Beach Club for my Husband's birthday in September and I would love to order a small 6inch cake to be delivered to our room. Do you think I could order a Food and Wine festival inspired cake? How soon in advance do you recommend placing the order?

Sure! I'd start calling about a month out so you have time in case it takes a while to hear back from someone. Then call again a few days before and reconfirm everything.

Returned a week ago from our birthday celebration trip for DGD's, ages 16 & 12. Kept it simple and worked with Elizabeth at POP Century. Vanilla cake, vanilla buttercream frosting with strawberry filling and other than the "Happy Birthday" my only other request was something soccer related. When I called she searched and couldn't find anything soccer related in their system but promised she's see what she could do. VERY pleased when this cake was delivered...

Requested that the cake be delivered at 5 PM on our arrival day and it was there at 5 to 5; also added the 3 balloons and a card from Mickey as a surprise...

Total charge was $42.60; I believe it was to serve 6. There were 5 of us and we enjoyed it the entire week. Stayed fresh in the small refrigerator the entire time. VERY pleased with the service of Elizabeth and cake was very good. :tink:

That is super cute! The balloon and the card - did you add those on through Disney or did the bakery add them as a surprise?

Does anyone know if the Contemporary Resort's cake order email address still works? I sent an email a week or so ago and haven't had a reply yet.

TIA!

It does seem to take a while to hear back. I'd re-send the email and then call Private Dining so they can alert the pastry team.

I want to do a cake for a birthday, unfortunately, it's probably the day we'll spend all day at HS for with a Hollywood and Vine reservation at 2 pm. Would I be better off canceling that reservation and planning for a resort lunch somewhere that can do the fancy cakes? Or having it sent to the hotel? We're staying at Beach Club, and would probably take a break after lunch anyway, so I could go ahead early maybe, and decorate the room before as well. Any suggestions or thoughts?

I always prefer to have the cake sent straight to my resort room so I don't have to schlep it all over. And the Yacht & Beach Club pastry team does great-looking cakes. So I'd keep the reservation and have the cake go to the room!

Hi all!! First time posting but I just spent my weekend catching up on this whole thread. It's a lot to digest! I'll be going to Disney in mid-October hitting up food and wine and MNSSHP and celebrating my girl's 5th birthday with extended family!!!!

So far I've got 2 TS meals where the whole family will be present, Sanaa and chef Mickey brunch. I've got 10 people + a vegan to feed. The cake theme varies between Elsa, Moana, Coco and Nemo - she's 4 and her mind flits around like a firefly. I was also thinking about beach/shells / treasure theme. Shiny, glitter and shimmer would have a big wow factor.

It sounds like I'll need an 8-inch cake. Can i get a small vegan cupcake ( on theme) to go on the side?

Do the mousse style fillings have cream cheese? That's a no-go for the birthday girl. If I just tell them no cream cheese they should be able to advise, yes?

Of our two restaurant choices, I thought Sanaa would be the better big birthday celebration spot due to atmosphere but after hearing about the limited cake options and seeing the same safari cake a few times I'm having second thoughts. I'd love to hear of any recent AKL cakes that have left a good impression.

I'm sure the cake at Chef Mickey would come out great but the atmosphere feels so busy.

Thanks for reading and tempting me with all the cakes! :D

The Dopey inspired cake exceeded our expectations. We totally surprised my DH at O’Hana w it. It was buttercream with vanilla cake. I was supposed to call back to request a filling but didn’t have time to call. There was a buttercream filling right in then middle of the larger layer. The gems were dark choc. It was delicious and very well done!

I ordered from Pat at the GF and she quoted me $40!

That is stunning!!

I don't recall seeing this question in all the fabulous information that is here. Soon to be hubby isn't much of a cake person (neither am I), but he loves cheesecake. Staying at Fort Wilderness, has anyone ever ordered a cheesecake for room delivery? Is this available and would I go through the resort or private dining? Thanks!
