****Official January 2021 thread****

I’m completely second guessing what days we are doing what parks after seeing midweek wait times. The plan is one park a day. When I made the park reservations we were originally getting in on Wednesday morning and we’re going to head straight to AK. Now we get in Tuesday night. We also picked Friday for MK since we were able to snag BOG reservations.

We currently have:

Wed - AK
Thur - HS
Fri - MK
Sat - EP

Thinking of moving HS to Friday or Saturday since it’s always busy there and taking advantage of a quieter Thursday elsewhere. I’ll drive myself nuts with this until the end.
We're there the exact same days! 1/27 is definitely Epcot for us because it's my daughter's 21st birthday and she wants cocktails around the world. We also have HS for Thursday and MK for Friday, with a BOG reservation. Thinking about swapping AK and doing that on Thursday and HS on Saturday. Don't know if it will be harder to get a RoR BG for a Saturday -- not sure it makes any difference.

I keep forgetting about the RoR BG. That’s one of the reasons I went Thursday for HS.

That would be too funny if we end up at BOG at the same time!

If you're looking for a Boarding Group for Rise of The Resistance, what I'd do is go:

Wed: AK
Thu: HS
Fri: MK
Sat: HS

And on Thursday, if I can snag a Group that day, then change my park reservation on Saturday for Epcot. If I can't get a Boarding Group on Thursday, then change that day to Epcot, and keep the Saturday pass for HS, and try again.

Just saw this. Pretty great idea. Thinking maybe swapping AK and MK. We’ve done BOG and would be okay if it meant smaller lines.

Leaving tomorrow to stay until the 26th with an army of spirit jerseys as well. Convinced myself i'm also dressing for the morning/evenings.
Good strategy!
Yesterday was nice at DHS, but I still used my jacket quite a bit. Today I think is supposed to be much warmer (it's a school/workday but we might go to Epcot later, still deciding) but if we go, we'll be there in the evening, I think we'll need jackets! I have been wearing shorts every day though.

And I'm a t-shirt person pretty much any January we've been in FL, but this year I've wanted the jacket, lol

I had a whole post I was adding to at the end of every day to post here about park experiences, crowds, wait times, etc. and it's been in "draft" and, dang it, I lost it.

Did AK/EP on Saturday. Heavier crowds on weekends but mostly manageable. Epcot was a lot busier though than AK and we didn't have time to do many rides at either park. Wait times weren't terrible but not short either. We've done both parks this year so we're OK with missing some stuff.

Monday was MK day and, despite being a holiday, we got a lot done and found the park not overly busy. Halfway through the day DD twisted her ankle and ended up needing a wheelchair (and later, a boot for 4-6 weeks) so that day was cut short at 4:30 after a leisurely touring day and we'd done everything we wanted to except Mine Train, Jungle Cruise, and Space. If we stayed, we could easily have gotten it all done and then some.

Tuesday was a planned down day for my teen's school and for me to work. DH took my oldest DD to urgent care.

Wednesday DD felt well enough to go to the park and we ended up keeping our DHS day (I'd planned to cancel). We did every attraction we wanted to except the Frozen show because the one we planned to go to was filled to capacity. If this is a must for your group, definitely leave extra time to get in line. We waited until 10 minutes before the show start and lots of us were being turned away. RnR was down I think all day (but we weren't planning on it anyway and we didn't do Aliens or the Cars show because no one wanted to. I think we did everything else though.) Had lunch at Sci-Fi which was fun. DH took DD back to the resort while I stayed with DD14. DH got DD settled in and came back for our post park closing reservation at Oga's at 7:55. I checked in at 7:35 and they were running late and didn't call us until about 8:05. I think there were 3 families left in Galaxy's Edge when we left and got personal escorts to the edge of the planet. Weird seeing it totally empty. I've been at Oga's past closing before, but this was just .. so different! Oh, during the day, most wait times were inflated at this park. Slinky posted 60, but we waited 30 despite the line starting at the end of TSL. If it goes out of the land, I'd wait.

One thing though and not Disney related. If anyone traveling now is planning to jump to Universal and wants to do the Harry Potter lands, I HIGHLY recommend not going on a weekend. Even without a pandemic. We were able to get on the virtual queue for Hagrid's and ended up dropping it as DD14 wasn't liking the crowds or and even with a return time, Hagrid's line extended out of the land. Poor TM at the exit of Hogsmeade where it meets the Lost Continent was shouting, "We're still in a pandemic people - six feet apart!" Problem was there was nowhere for people to go...we scooted out into Seussland. TMs are doing a great job, but I think mgt needs to find a way to manage capacity in the HP areas (we didn't even bother going to Diagon Alley) as this was the same in August, but this month was worse. The rest of UO parks were busy, but no worse than Disney on the weekend.

Tomorrow is back to MK and we splurged for a night at the Contemporary after our flights were changed from Sat afternoon to Sat night, so we'll spend Sat at MK too.

1/20 4 parks 1 day

Today we had plans to film a promotional video for our university Alma Mater virtual 5k. We were going to visit all 4 parks and make a series of videos to document out virtual "run" at WDW.

We got up late and had breakfast in Contempo Cafe and filmed a few shots. Left for AK at 12. Walked onto FoP. Left AK and took a bus directly to MGM. Just earlier in the week park to park transportation was not available but today it was. Got to MGM right at 2 for park hopping. Walked onto Toy Story Mania then headed to SWGE for Smugglers Run and pictures.

Skyway to EPCOT and had Fish and Chips for a snack. Did Test Track on our way out. Bus to MK to "finish our race". Rode 7DMT the walked to BLT. Dinner at California Grill.

Total PH time was 5 hrs 5 minutes.

1/21 MK

Another late start. Light breakfast at Contempo Cafe. Monorail to MK. Everything today was a walk on. Honestly we stopped looking at posted ride times days ago. Dumbo, Ariel, 7DMT (while in line I booked our Southwest airfare for March), Small World, Haunted Mansion.

Lunch at Sleepy Hollow.

Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Buzz, Space Mountain.

Shopped and then stopped at Starbucks for a drink. On our way out I booked an ADR for Kona. Took the boat to the Polynesian. Bus to hotel and then packed.

Just curious, did you happen to notice yesterday that boarding groups for rotr were still available at 2pm yesterday? Did you try to get one just to see if it’d work?

On a previous day we were at MGM there was an announcement made at 1:00pm that all the BG were filled. We didn't try this day and I would be very surprised of there was anything left at 2:00pm.

The last 2 days, boarding groups did actually remain open for over an hour. Yesterday was almost 2. At least according to the app. Seems pretty crazy, but light crowds will do that, lol
