I have haven't read all the posts, but when we were there last May, we stopped in there. My Dad collects the fire dept patches. We brought one from our home town and asked if they would like to trade! Of course they did! So if your son wanted one, bring one from your town. Did you say your husband was a firefighter? Then bring one of his to trade! And if you would like to trade me, so I could get one from your husbands dept, I'll get you one from here! Let me know!!
the question becomes... would you stop into a fire house in say, oakbrook, Il
Why did you mention Oakbrook, IL as an example... are you from around that area or know someone from there? I don't live all that far from there.
collcass - have you considered also touring E-One? You can schedule a tour there.
I would just tell your kids that you are going to stop by and see the staion, then they aren't expecting anything more and if it's a good time and a tour is offered, then it will just be like a bonus!
