The Best World of Color Viewing Spots

It was our first time seeing WOC, we did PD for 9 PM show on 4/7. We didn't rush to the area, about 15 minutes before showtime. We were basically where Disneyland_1951's suggests to stand (plus we got to sit on the stairs for waiting time). All of the adults had great views, but my DD (3 1/2) had to be held up to see. Luckily we had 5 adults in our group and we switched off holding her throughout the show. I'm against the kid on shoulders thing, out of respect for my neighbors, but man is it easier! Funny enough when we were walking back during the 2nd show it looked like we would've seen more (all of the stuff that was at a lower level) on the bridge in the Blue section, plus we wouldn't have had to hold my DD up the whole time.

Any thoughts on Blue bridge view vs. PD section towards the back? What do you think we should try next time? Would we be able to show up 15 mins before showtime to get the Blue bridge view? Is it best to stick to PD and just get there earlier for rail viewing?

We ate at Ariel's Grotto to enjoy a nice sit down dinner, in a kid friendly atmosphere, and I decided that getting the FP for WOC was a bonus added on to our dinner. So I was definitely not disappointed with where we saw the show from or what we paid to be in that section.

Great thread!! :cheer2:

I've seen it from the Blue bridge and from pretty close to the front of the PD section. The PD is definitely better. Not sure about the back of PD though. The Blue bridge is a very different experience overall. I didn't feel as immersed as up closer, so it gave a better view of the scope of the show. But I've also seen it from back by the "yellow fire hydrant" which gave an even better idea of the scope. Unfortunately, the bridge does fill up quickly and 15 min before will not get you a great spot.

We are about to embark on our first trip to Disneyland and I have only been able to do minimal research for our last minute trip. Once we enter the WOC viewing area can we leave to go to the bathroom or grab a snack and then go back in? I have a 2 year old and I feel certain that as soon as we get settled she will need to take a potty break.

Yes, just leave someone behind to hold your spot or make friends with the people around you first so they can hold your spot. In fact you should plan to do the rest room break some 20-30 minutes before the show regardless if anyone needs to at the moment.

Check with the CMs before you leave and they will give you a pass to re-enter.

Thanks HydroGuy! Your tips have been so incredibly helpful. We are really excited about our first trip to DL & DCA after many trips to WDW!

Are they still giving passes at the hotels? If so are they typically for any specific area (I know not dedicated, but wondering if they were specific like the picnic passes.

The Disney hotels were never "giving out passes" per se. They allowed hotel guests in early to get first shot at the WOC FPs and these started with the first show blue section as is typical. Apparently on some mornings that they cannot allow guests into DCA before 9:30 they did hand WOC FPs to guests in line. This seems to be irregular.

What about when there's a 2nd show? Do they still issue FPs for it? If so, how far in advance are they available?

Yes when there is a second show, tickets for it are distributed right after the first shows tickets have been disrtibuted. Blue, Yellow, Red, then 2nd show Blue, Yellow, red.

For lots of detail see World of Color Superthread.

For those of us who know they will never brave the crowds, I would love reviews of spots around the lagoon. It is a given you will never hit the "sweet spot" like you could if you did the whole FP thing.........but I really want the scoop on the best of the second best LOL !
So often when people ask, instead of replying with any info.....posters just try to talk you into getting a FP.

My family and I were there in april of this year, my wife prepurchased the reserved standing area for the show. We were escorted by a rude DL employee to a spot behind the star area on the map, where the circle area is behind the reseved seating. We were basically hearded like cattle through a livestock sale barn. Upon arriving in the small circle area, we were packed like sardines. Yes, shoulder to shoulder is how we were. My wife payed money for that preferred area. Once again when the show started, people climbed up on the railings and planters, lots of people griping about the great reserved standing area we were in. Was the show any good? I have NO idea, I could NOT see very much of for all the people. I am six feet, one inch tall and I could not see much of it. I would have sat down and listened to the music but, there is no place to sit with that many people shoulder to shoulder.
You want to see the show? I would suggest going on EBAY and purchasing a CD. I garantee you will probally see more of the show and spend a lot less money. Good Luck

I was advised to get a GAC card for my ASD son at DL. I am wary of bringing him to WOC because fo standing room. I would also hate to hold a bench for him if someone elderly or disabled were to come along, he does have a stroller-as-wheelchair tag but I wonder if the special areas will be ok enough to SEE from? Just pondering!

It can be highly variable how crowded the handicapped section is. A lot depends on which show you go to (if there are two shows) and how well the CM patrols the area. In each section, the handicapped area is in the back and it is very easy to leave. So I would think if it became too overwhelming, you would have little problem backing out and leaving (unlike nearer to the front, where it is crowded). There is space to roll up a wheelchair/stroller right up the railing, so no one would be in front of you. If there are two shows, the second is less crowded, but also later in the evening and that might not work for you.

You are right about the benches, though. They do ask that only the handicapped person sit down on the bench, but enforcement of that rule can be spotty. DH stood behind me until the CM gave him the okay to use the bench. I would think that it would be no problem to either roll up the stroller to the railing and allow him to stay there, or have him sit on the bench with you beside him. Either way, just be sensitive to those in the area and if needed, you can stand. But it is way less crowded in the handicapped area than down by the water. There is space to move around unlike in the non-handicapped spots.

The view from the blue and yellow handicapped sections are good. I prefer the blue and would avoid red if at all possible. Because you are right up against a railing, you have an unobstructed view. You can sit down and see pretty much everything. I like the back for its all encompassing view of the effects. It is also less stimulating/scary. But, as I said earlier, it would be super easy to leave if necessary.

Good luck and I hope you try it. It is an amazing show and worth seeing! :goodvibes

This old question never got answered, but it seems like a very good question. Any thoughts.

In my opinion, the reason the question doesn't get answered with anything more than trying to talk the guest into getting a FP is because the other areas around the lagoon that are not in the FP area really are NOT good for viewing. I guess it would be like asking "I want to see the new Brad Pitt movie, but I don't want to actually sit in the theater to watch it. Is there a spot nearby where I could maybe just hear a few words from the movie instead? ". Gosh I mean I GUESS someone could recommend something like that, but I'd rather just say "hey, it's FREE to watch, so just get a ticket!"

THAT SAID, a lot of posters that have already seen WOC from the proper viewing area don't mind watching it from Cove Bar for a repeat visit. There is a cover charge at night, and you are on the side so you don't see the projections properly, but at least you can experience the lights and music. The opposite side of the lagoon is also obviously inferior, as you don't see the projections (or you might see them backward), but the music and sound effects aren't piped in equally throughout the park. You'll hear them, but the speakers and everything are aimed toward the viewing area.

Very well stated.

are there areas for someone who has a GAC for low vision? (obviously the wheelchair handicapped areas in the back wouldn't work when the handicap is "can't see far at all".)
(not talking about just thick glasses.. macular degenration)

Macular degeneration and viewing the WOC... You might want to watch WOC on YouTube to see what it's like. Once you have an idea of the scope of the program, look at the map on page one and see which area would work.

Good luck

I agree, that is what I am doing. lots of research. just wanting to know, since there are HC areas for those with cheelchairs, if there are specail areas for those whose handicap is low vision. such as the "sit in front of shows" stamp?
