The Disney Box for Two. . .A Christmas PTR updtd 7/28 The Ticker's Not an Illusion

How I love Epcot mornings. I've never been to Epcot before the park opened, but in the case of this trip, we will be. We have an early reservation at Akershus.

Breakfast: Akershus is, of course, known for it's Princesses. Sweetie loves the princesses there. I love the potato casserole. MMM, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. It was the one thing that we asked for seconds of in 2008.

Of course, we have the obligatory picture from that trip--the girls and I went with a friend and her daughter, while all the guys were at Cape May for breakfast that morning.

Lunch: Let's venture today to a little place known as

This meal will actually be an out of pocket venture, as there is nothing on the adult menu that Sweetie likes and I don't particularly like how they handle the dining plan here. I do know what I want: The Full Montague:

How does EOS do it? This is the best sammich on property, I tell you! THE BEST!

On to Dinner: We have reservations at

I had a memorable experience at the chef's bar last December. It was easily close to the best meal at Disney last time. . .

My view from the chef's bar:

Onto our possible choices for the night:

Sweetie: Appetizer: Cristy Sesame and Togarshi-scented Calamari. She is a squid lover, I tell you, a squid lover! Entre: New York Strip (she just got into liking steak and will enevitable love this one. Dessert: my girl loves some cheesecake. That's all I have to say.

Me: I'll have a few repeats and new things. For my Appetizer, I can't pass on the Crispy Maine Coast Jonah Crab Cake:

Best crab cake on property, having had my share.

Entre: I'll try something new--the Potato-wrapped red snapper. I've heard good things about it, so I want to try it.

Dessert will be a light affair, and a repeat from last year: the sorbet trio--a light, delicious treat, great for a mid to almost full stomach:

So, there we have it--Day 2!

more yummy food!!!! I was hesitant the first time I ate at EOS but I ended up loving it!! There always seems to be a huge line but it moves very quickly. The strawberries and cream dessert is awesome!!!!

Day 2 sounds great! I have never been to EoS However what is wrong with their Dning plan, I get the feeling It be smart to ust pay out of pocket!

When we went for dinner last month, there was--hold you breath--no line. None. Natta. I think EOS seems to be a lunch destination, not a dinner one. Of course, it was also around 4:30. :rotfl:

At EOS you get either a side or a dessert, and although I don't always eat the desserts right then when I go to a CS location, I like having a quick snack in my park bag. So I just go there and buy the sandwich and a drink and use a snack credit for my bag over at Goofy's Candy Co now.

woo, love the food porn. dining plans look great! yes, 3 sit downs is a lot in one day. it is a lot of food. you are going to be doing some good eating! ;)

we love EOS, one of my favorites- we try and eat there twice each trip! :rotfl:

EOS is awesome--my favorite CS meal honestly outside of parks. I still don't know if even 2 TSs per day is too much--it probably is. :rolleyes1

question about EOS and the DDP, it's a quick service credit right? What do you get with that credit? Obviously a sandwich, drink and dessert but does it come wiith chips or another side when normally you would get fries/apple slices/etc?

My friend wants to go there and use a CS in OCT. I told her I had not used a CS credit before and I'd find out haha.

At EOS (and only there), you get an entre, side, and drink. The side can either be like chips or potato salad OR a dessert. Most other places, you get an entre, side, dessert, and soda, but not EOS. That's why I pay oop for that one, and I usually just get the sammich and drink.

Ahhh. . .Animal Kingdom Lodge. My first foray there in Dec 2009 led me to a place that I still love today:

IMG_0219.jpg

Breakfast this morning is at this wonderful place. Boma's breakfast has a good mixture of "different" foods and staples. It also has great mixtures between different and staples, making it a place where a less adventurous 11-year-old might try something new. Or at least that's what I'm hoping for. Last December I ate 2 plates of food. (Yes, you read that right--2 plates.)

IMG_0226-1.jpg

IMG_0223.jpg

And the juice there--the African frunch? To die for!

Before my breakfast at Boma in Dec last year, I had had two disappointing meals: first at Yachtsman, then a nonservice at Chefs de France. Here, my service was impeccible, the food wonderful, and the atmosphere perfect. Would I stay at AKL? Well, the answer is no. If I am to stay at a deluxe resort, there needs to be transportation other than the bus, in my opinion to at least two parks. Maybe that's picky, because it totally leaves out all but Beach Club, Yacht Club, Grand Floridian, Contemporary, and Poly (Boardwalk gets a total throw-out because of the clown slide). I guess that's why continue to stay at a moderate.

Lunch: A simple lunch today--french fries or fruit from someplace in Animal Kingdom. I learned a lesson at Boma in December--after eating there, I'm not hungry until late afternoon and if I eat a lot then, then I will probably not eat dinner. Which would be a shame. Because dinner is at:

California Grill

I've never eaten here, but I am so excited about it.

I know the menu changes here often, so it's hard to gauge what we will order, but we are looking at this:

Sweetie:
appetizer--cheese flatbread
entre--filet of beef (which seems to be on there usually)
dessert--Valrhona Chocolate Cake (what can I say? She loves chocolate)

Me:
appetizer--sushi of some sort. I have never had sushi, and I am thinking as such, I should go with a staple--a California Roll. What do ya'll think?
entre--Either the bison or the filet, depending on how adventurous I think I am
dessert--Usually they have a Christmasy-type dessert this time of year, and I want to try that.
Drink--I want a good glass of red wine here--I've been perusing the wine list. I am thinking I want a Syrah if I get the bison; a cabernet if I am doing the filet.

I am most excited about this dining day than any other!

I love your dining plans! I am very excited about CG too, I just wish I liked sushi! I will be sticking with a flatbread app. the filet sounds/looks very tasty from all the reviews I've read!

No one in my Family wants to try Boma exept for me Idon't know if its because they feel out of the way :confused3. But from you picture it looks yummy. As for sushi yes I would say california roll. They are very good I have never been to CG but sushi is yummy. Or If you like crab, and if they have a crab type of roll. :) As far as bison goes I never had it I know people in my family have and said it was very good and I am sure CG's Bison is WOW!

yeah, i agree, we pay OOP if we have DDP. and it is actually a pretty good value just paying cash!

LOVE CG- i've eaten here probably at least 5x. I love the filet, but i've also tried the pork and something else. I've had that chocolate cake too and it is delish! I've tried flatbread, but forget which kind. My BF had the sushi on one visit and loved it- snake int he grass or something (I don't eat sushi). I am not a big win drinker, but my BIL is and he loved the wine there. The servers are pretty knowledgeable too about what is good and what you might like.

you know, i am a picky eater and we have now tried boma for both breakfast and dinner. i liked both, but it wasn't my favorite. I would do it again, but not for a while- want to try other places first. it is out of the way, but well worth the visit- plus it is fun to explore the AKL. I did love the soups at dinner and even for a picky person, i found a LOT i liked. everyone enjoyed it. jsut convince them it is worth the visit- plus you can check out all the animals on the savannah.

I want to try sushi for the first time, and I think if there is someplace to try it, it would be Cali Grill. We will be doing a roll, though, with as much cooked meat as possible. But I do love smoked salmon, so I think I'm on the right track.

Boma is really a great meal, and there aren't many choices in the AK area. Boma is right there, and easy enough to get to. Last Dec I had a 7:35 adr at Boma and was at AK at least 20 min before rope drop. This is with me walking around AK for a long time after I ate breakfast.

I know a little (very little) about wine, but my intention was to ask the servers what they suggest with my meal.

I don't know if I would do dinner there--it just seems too different to me. But breakfast compared to other breakfast locations, I like Boma.

I hate it when I hurt people's feelings, but right now, there is no way around it. A friend of mine from work would like to go to Disney. All of the sudden, she wants me to change my plans and add her and her 2 (ages 3 and 5) sons to my reservations. She wants my 11 year old to help babysit.

I'm gonna tell her no. No way. I don't know what to say, though. This is a special time one on one with my daughter and it would not even be close to fair to Sweetie to deal with these kids. Also, if I went with her, she will only stay at the Poly and it would increase my costs exponentially, and given the fact that I have had to take a pay cut this year, it's just not feasible.

So any suggestions? I thought about writing her a note, because if she comes to me all excited, I'm gonna cave and let her do whatever.

H-E- DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS, NO !!!! Are you kidding me.......:scared1: ??? Does she just assume you'll say "yes"?? She sounds kinda like she expects you to cave---DON'T DO IT!!!

Tell her that your plans are set, you can't change the reservation details, or you'll lose your FREE DINING.....ANTHING....just don't DO IT!!!

She does not think. And to top it all off, her kids are horrible. She laughed when she told me that they told their father that he was too lazy to do anything. Of course, they parrot what she says.

I just can't do it and won't.

I think you should tell her if she wants to go, then she can book her own trip! Maybe you guys could have a couple meals together or spend a day together, but tell her that this is your special time away from the real world with your daughter, and that your daughter does not want to spend her vacation babysitting!!! I think it's incredibly rude that she would expect you to be ok with this!!!
