Why do some DVC members think they can get extra perks which are not offered?

People that feel entitled to things they did not pay for or deserve; do it regardless of being DVC, or AP or even concierge. They park at the curb at the local market instead of the parking lot, etc. They act the same at home or at Disney.

I truly do not think DVC brings it out.

Personally I think these are the same people who tell the folks at the DMV "my taxes pay your salary!" when they are pissed off.
The couple of times I've heard this I always think "I need a raise" but would never say it as it would escalate the issue that triggered the comment.

I can tell you that we own other timeshares, not Disney related. We get nothing, nada, zilch for our ownership except vactions at a quality resort. No special parties, no member gathers, no special gifts, not even discounts to the local park (unless we want to attend a 90 minute"owners update").
It depends on the timeshare. We get something with all we own in one way or another. For Marriott it's hit or miss, but we get room discounts plus many of the Marriott resorts arrange a large array of discounts locally. Most also have two working meeting for the owners weekly, one for what's going on with the nuts and bolts of the resort and the other more Marriott wide dealing with reservations and exchange systems.

With Bluegreen we get the ability to pay dues with points (as preferred members) and with Bluegreen Travelers Plus (pay a little extra yearly) also the ability to pay for rooms, hotels, cruises and the like with points, and access to the "entertainment company" benefits. Our MX timeshare gives us member discounts on dining as well as a member only meal plan which is quite nice.

But to be honest, most of the discounts given by DVC are either sales inducements or cost DVC nothing other than the time and aggravation to ask and keep up with them. Given the nature of DVC and the location of most of the resorts, it would be counterproductive not to have the types of benefits they do. Remember Disney gives out many of these benefits easily to other groups like AP, AAA and FL residents. While I don't think they're owed, I do think it would be seen as a negative to members and to potential members if they didn't have a decent perks package. It's all about getting every dollar they can both now and in the future. Even the DDP is aimed at shaping your current and future dining habits so when it goes away, you'll still eat out and on property more than before the DDP.

Wow, I really have alot to say on this subject, but my last post was deleted by someone. So I don't want to waste my time typing

This thread is not meant to be mean or anything bad about Disney Vacation Club Members, so I just wanted to make that point for you all to see right away.

Anyway from what I have learned from this great website, Disney Vacation Club members get special perks that regular guests may not get. Some examples being pool hopping, purchasing DVC member only pins & etc, which is fine & it does not bother me at all. However something that kind of bothers me is when others may say, well since I am a DVC member maybe WDW can do this for me or I am paying so much per year I deserve to get it. I understand that DVC members pay so mch per year, because my family & I have friends who have been DVC members since it began in 1991. So I am just wondering why are there some members who think because they get other freebies which are not included for being DVC members?
So I ask that no one flames me over this, because once again I say I am not attacking any DVC members. It's just a simple question I have.

Did not read the whole thread but it's hard to comment without some specifics.

I wish this was a genric post but my persona expereinces have been HEARING and SEEING DVC members do the following:

1. Announce LOUDLY to CM that "I PAID FOR PART OF THIS PARK" and therfore the JERK thought that he should NOT have to stand in line but be given a Front of the line at a Disney Ride (Wearing DVC merchandise and pointing to the hat while screming "I PAID FOR PART OF THIS PARK" gave me the clue he was DVC) The "I paid THOUSANDS" statement I have heard numerous times when the guest is being unreasonable.

2. Watch a DVC member thereaten to beat up a CM because "I reserved 11 months ago and TOLD you I wanted Villa XYZ (at OKW)" Followed by lots of "DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I SPEND AT DISNEY?" (No, and I don't care!) Security and local police escorted the bully from the property. The manager pulled his wife aside and said that DVC would be contacting them the next day.

3 I read on here. Enough said. (I feel sorry for some CMs based on the "complaints' here. Failure to say "Welcome Home" appears to be one of the 7 deadly sins LOL!)

Maybe other guest do feel entitled but DVC members and AP holders tend to be the guests that CMs have LOTS of horror stories about. As a result, I don't wear either DVC or AP pins or clothing. I don't want to be tarred by the same brush!

How odd that you have never heard/seen non DVC members say/do the same. I doubt if everyone that has TRIED to butt in line in front of me was a dvc member. I doubt if everyone I've seen be rude to waiters and waitresses was a DVC member, I can go on all day but I think I've made my point. Ignorance has nothing to do with DVC membership, and IMO the op just wants to stir things up, seems we get a lot of that from DVC haters. Don't worry we can handle it... Also I wear my DVC member hat proudly!

While some of you may not believe it or not, it was not my intention to stir things up. If anything it's others members here who are making me look like the bad guy, all because I asked what I thought was a simple question in my mind.

Personally I like my Dis-Board hat too:

I agree Chuck. There's an old saying: He was born on third base and grew up thinking he hit a triple". That sums up the way some people think.

I've never heard this before but I REALLY like it. It is SOOOOO true with alot of people. I think I am going to use that quote. Good Stuff:thumbsup2

It’s to bad Disney doesn’t know the meaning of “loyalty” or “long term commitment”. I went to the trouble of planning my family vacations for the next 40 years at a Disney location somewhere in the world. They know they can count on me to spend my hard earned $$ without them having to spend one dime of their advertising or marketing budget. Would it kill them to provide me as committed Disney vacationers for the next 40 years free park entrance, a dinner or something for my loyalty…….just my opinion

We get 40 years of vacations for the cost of about 20 years at a value resort. Not Bad if you ask me.:thumbsup2

While I cannot deny these things happen, I really don't think the DVC Merchandise, membership,or AP has made these people act like this. More then likely they are just as big of a ******* when they are not at WDW.

How may times have you heard parents acting like idiots who were first time visitors (Not DVC or AP) yelling at a CM or their kids that "they have just spent a fortune on this vacation and so and so needs to happen". I would bet quite a bit.

Don't worry about it, it was a fair question and likely more on the mark than you'll every know. Also as pointed out, jerks are jerks and I think things like DVC bring out that quality in some people.

Some people just think the world owes them! Thankfully they are in the minority!
I think they are a larger group than you think they are.

Maybe you should check my profile, but I am a 21 year old male. So you were 100% wrong to call me a young lady.

No, I see it as 50% wrong. you're a 21yo male. So, being 21, you are young. He got the young right, lady wrong.;)

What man hasn't been called a lady at least once in his life? It's good for your ego! :lmao:

So it seems you are in agreement, that DVC members ARE the whiners, screamers and complainers at WDW?:confused3

I'm surprised you feel that way. I've seen subsets in every group I've dealt with that has this type of behavior. It doesn't seem to be DVC specific to me.

I've witnessed yelling and screaming during check ins at many resorts. Actually the worst tantrum I witnessed was at a Marriott Timeshare. Moral, it happens everywhere, CRO guests, DVC, Marriott, etc. It just happens. People spendng more than should or those with unrealistic expectations is likely the cause.

I'm also surprised you feel this way given your comments on renters and how they treat rooms. I belive it was you that stated renters aren't anymore likely to abuse a room than owners. You stated it is simply about the people and the values. Some abuse and some don't whether owners or not.

How can that logic apply there and not here?

Not really. I think they are a portion of the complainers, maybe a little more than their fair share. I believe that any group that has to buy in with significant dollars tends to be this way. For WDW I'd say AP/PAP holders, deluxe resort guests in general and concierge esp. tend to have more than their fair share of this group. But I do believe DVC and Disney in general tends to bring out the worst in some people but then do vacations in general it seems.

THis post comes across as very nasty, despite the addendum on the end.

...just finished reading through all six pages. I'm really feeling like the OP just enjoyed stirring the DVC board up, for whatever reasons.

Tony, you, as you've probably heard a bazillion times before, are an absolute genius with the written word. Louis XIV's court has nothing on your wit.

Soooo, I say to the OP, hie thee to the community boards, and away from our fair abode...

Let me chime in here. When Disney Visa card holders get special perks at the parks I get a little miffed. I can't get a Disney card. Not a US resident. Yet I have put more money into Disney then any Visa card holder ever will. I have requested a discount at WOD store through MS several times. But no response. I have put over $40,000 into DVC and, yes I feel I deserve some perks over the normal visitor.
I was about to answer that we DO get a 10% discount as DVC members but then I remembered that I probably get the discount because I have an annual pass or because I have a Disney Visa. I've learned just to pull all the cards out of my wallet (DVC, AP, VISA, AAA, Disney Dining, etc.) and have the CM tell me which has the best discount in any given situation. :) I certainly can't keep them all straight...

Y-ASk

As a DVC member, I would like to be put at the head of the line no matter what the line is for. Now if I could just figure out which line to get into :).

Whichever one I am not in! :lmao: I always seem to get in the one that ends up moving the slowest!

And don't forget the Cape May Buffet and Beaches and Cream, and the secret entrance into the Magic Kingdom from the 4th floor!

And who blames SSR for everything from wear and tear, trouble booking at 7 months, broken pipes, bad siding, and icky carpeting, that's right, them thar BCVers!

Hey I wanna know where that secret entrance to the MK is too!!!!!!:rotfl:
