"Little People, Big World" Official Thread

I've always been pretty forgiving about the mess. She's got four kids and a husband that can't really help due to his physical limitations. She's only one woman! She should have the kids help out more with cleaning up, but still it's usually up to Mom to do most of it.

Also, from what I can tell, it's usually just disorganization, not actual dirty-ness. Stuff is different than dirt.

Zach putting that brush back was such a typical teenage thing to do, I could see one of my brothers doing the same thing at that age! :rotfl:

I agree with her only being 1 person to clean up (yes my up stairs dose look like the Roloff entire house) (I confessed) My down satirs looks great. I would make ALL of those kids clean:teacher: . ..

With the railing on the porch, I totally agree with Matt. They built it for THEM, not for average height folks. It is the porch on the house, not a public area.

yes I agree, it was built for them to enjoy.. BUT the inspectors have to look at what happens IF/when the house is sold to another person , then it will NOT be built to code & there will be problems.

railing heights are soooooo picky.

I am glad Matt found a way around the code :thumbsup2

I have been wondering how they have afforded sending 4 kids to a private school all these years? Do you think they get scholarships?
It seems Amy did not go back to her teaching job. She took a leave of absence in the fall after Jacob was hurt.

now if it was me I would tell my dh to get me a maid and a professional orginizer:teacher: not an extra room.. that would be just me .. I sure can relate to her mess:rolleyes1

I am watching them on Oprah right now. They just showed Zack with some of his little people friends out and about in the city, People were yelling insults from passing cars and people walking past were laughing and pointing at them. How very sad:sad2:

The ignorance of some people simply amazes me!

They have income other than the farm too. Matt does some computer software stuff (he made a fortune in it in the '90's from what I understand) and he also has that little people stool business that is doing well, from what they portray on the show. And I'm sure they get income from the show as well, it's likely not a huge amount but I'm sure it helps. And he gets paid for all those lectures he does around the country.

Plus he wrote a book.

Just saw the family on Oprah they look great, love Amy's haircut, they really look like a loving, happy family.

I am such a big fan of that show! I agree about the messy house. If my house was going to be shown to the world on TV, I would clean it, or hire a maid.

That said, I still love the show and love Matt!

Matt actually wasn't all that great a salesman -- he got fired at one company and sued and said it was because he was a dwarf, and the judge ruled against him in a very, very strongly worded decision that basically said that he had wasted everybody's time and money with the groundless lawsuit and that the company had provided ample proof of his lack of performance, whereas his allegations of competence were easily disproved.

The stools also apparently aren't selling much -- his stool costs about $300 and the major hotel chains already have stepstools and accessibility kits that don't cost nearly that much (not handmade in somebody's tool shop).

Except for TLC they have very little money except in the land. Only 4-5 years ago (in the first special that documented their lives), Amy's parents had to pay for Zach's braces because they didn't have the money to do it. That's one of the bones of contention between Amy's parents and Matt -- he likes to gloss over it and say that they never envisioned him being able to provide for her "and look at us now!" but he leaves out the part where they didn't even have money for braces.

And of course he hasn't worn his retainer, so they're getting all jacked up again. They must be seething.

I looked at the website for their school- the tuition for the 4 of them would be about 24,00 but they do get a good discount on this for multiple children. Still, for Zach it is worth it b/c I think public school would be rough for him.

I think the boys need to improve their grades if their parents are paying that much for High School.

That makes me ill. I would LOOOOVE to confront somebody pulling that crap.

Did anyone watch LAST week (May 5th) and Matt had gone way over budget and they had to close down (cease) the renovation of the house. The construction workers jsut stopped working and picked up all their equipment and drove off.

Matt did not budget the project properly (as he stated himself) and he is in serious arrears.

Amy was so upset.

Well now I tune in the show last night (May 12th) and it is reruns or what they actually called "Lost Episodes"?

I saw the May 5th episodes. Matt definitely did not budget correctly. I don't blame Amy for being upset over it.

Last night's jam episode was a first for me. I thought I was going to have a stroke when I saw it. Watching the way Amy was packing those jars... Ummmm..... That's not what I would call canning properly. I wanted to reach through the screen. :scared:

I wonder if they budgeted Amy's new pickup in there somewhere? ;)

Guess you're like me and wouldn't be buying any of that at their farm store real soon  Wonder if she knows anything about botulism :rotfl:

We were watching it the other night, too! Every time it is on I always comment on the uncleanliness of their house. C'mon...if I had a tv crew filming in my house for millions to see you can be sure it wouldn't look filthy like that! I do have to ask what this is: on their kitchen counter/island there is a clear covered hole. It looks like it may have a faucet, but it is about the size of a bar sink and it has a clear cover over it. I wonder what that is?

From what I've seen it's a steamer like I've seen her take vegetables out of it...and steam has come out. So that's my guess.

I love this show too!

But they popped. That means they are safe...right?:thumbsup2

Matt also earns income from speaking engagements. He was here in NC last month at a college giving a motivational speech. On the show a few weeks ago, Amy went to a college also, but I'm not sure if it was a paid speech.

Amy spoke at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa -- which is my alma mater -- and where I worked after I got my master's degree. And one of my bridesmaids (who works at Cornell) was on the show!!!

I don't know if it was a paid speech or not. I'm guessing it was. At Cornell we had somone from Survivor come and do a speech -- I think it was a similar thing -- motivational speech and talking about his experiences on survivor -- and I believe he was paid.
