Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

While I agree that both Jon and Kate should be supportive of each other, the show is not a "normal" job. It's a very public job and a highly popular show! I think that brings a different dynamic completely. Kate obviously loves the limelight hence her reaction to Jon feeling lost. Know what I mean?

Anyone know if table for 12 is `anywhere on youtube?....Iam having trouble finding it..but thought someone would of put it up.

Totally agree! Very well put, their way of life isn't common and in any way similar to most people.

:wave2: Found you guys :goodvibes

But how is Jon being supportive of her? She is happy, and he is sitting on the couch complaining. It is just a two way street. She is not in the right. He is not in the right. They are going to have to work through this very tough situation. There are so many moving parts, and neither is right or wrong.

I feel like there is an assumption that Kate should roll over and do whatever Jon wants. It feels sexist to me (the general feeling of this line of argumentation, not anything specific that has been said). They have a complicated marital issue to work out. Quite frankly, Kate has far more earning potential than Jon does.

It feels like folks are arguing that Jon's happiness trumps Kate's. This may be a result of underlying gender assumptions, or it may be a result of Jon being a more sympathetic "character" on the show. Either way, I feel like Kate takes a lot of abuse on this board, and these threads.

If they stop the show, kate stops writing and touring, their roles will simply be reversed. Kate will be unhappy and Jon will be feeling more fulfilled. It is not a solution. I don't envy them, but I am confident they will be able to work through it.

I agree with this :thumbsup2 I am a lot like Kate and my DH is a lot like Jon. I think it is very difficult for others to understand that dynamic if they are not in a relationship like that.

See I didn't get that at all. I saw them being very honest and saying that Jon is not happy and they as a couple are discussing options and ideas. Seemed to me that Kate was concerned her spouse was unhappy, acknowledged she was okay with her life at the moment and was wanting to discuss what they could do to make Jon's life more fulfilled. I saw nothing about her being unsupportive in the least. :surfweb:

I also didn't get that she was being unsupportive or anything like that. I got the impression that she knows what he is saying, but that is his role right now. Personally, I HATE my job, but it pays well, great hours, good benefits, etc. I would be crazy to give it up at this point in my life because it is perfect for us right now. I think Kate was kind of saying the same thing to Jon.

I think alot of the emotions we saw in the last show were a result of Jon's recent bashing in the media. I think once things have smoothed over (and they pretty much have already) he will have a different outlook. I can't imagine him wanting to give up the "stuff" that is a result of their fame. I think that was why Kate seemed a bit unconcerned about his distress. She realized it would pass and that things truly are better for the now. And I think it was apparent to all of us that any unrest was greatly played up for the cameras.

I've always wondered how the filming schedule is ?:confused3
Do you think the crew goes in just on, say Tues and Thurs ?
So, they devote their day to filming ?
And, the rest of the week they live their lives (semi) normally ?
So, maybe Jon does his work on the non-film days ?

I can't find the episode either. All I've found is the short clip introducing them. :confused3

you raise some very good points. there is no easy answer.

But, I don't think the final episode is an accurate assessment of what's happening in their marriage, anyway .. as we now know that season 5 has been in the works for at least a few weeks before last Monday's show aired. The notion that they may not be back is a non issue. Once again, the show has been edited and we've been shown what someone else wants us to see. And it paid off for the show, since last week's episode was the highest rated JK8 to date. The 3 weeks prior showed a steady decline of several hundred thousand viewers.

I do believe there are issues in their marriage, there are too many signs that point in that direction. But to say the fault is all on Kate's shoulders is unfair.

I believe on their last Q&A show that they said they film roughly 3 days a week.

Oh my gosh, really?! Well, they did play up the previews for last week's show to the hype from the whole Jon/bar thing/divorce thing. Those producers etc know what they're doing to get people's attention.

I saw the last episode last night. Besides feeling sad for Jon, he seems like he misses things the way they were before the show. Simpler times, I am sure. Which I am sure anyone can relate in some way.I know I can.I miss staying home with my kids when they were little in our PJ's all day.:cloud9:
Of course Kate does not miss not being in the spot light, she enjoys it. She does not care not to go out into the public, she is anti social to begin with.

Anyway... I just have to say one thing GET ME A PAPER TOWEL!:happytv::rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:
OMG, are these kids turning into brats or what? I use to teach pre school and thought I heard it all.

things have smoothed over already? One dinner in Beverly Hills did that?

he's living at home, they did some damage control post-finale last week. other than that, I don't think anyone knows how things are right now .. and I'm not sure that Jon & Kate's issues can be smoothed over, (snaps fingers)just like that.

Kate is gone a lot, Jon is overwhelmed to the point of staying with his mother for 8 days, he doesn't like his role in the family, she thinks he should because she loves hers .. they've got a lot to work through, I think. And it isn't like they're taking a break from filming to have family time - they're still filming and working. I do hope they do find a balance that works for them, where everyone in their family can be happy.

What work?

To have shot the number of episodes they have, and considering the amount of raw footage needed for an episode, they had to shoot a lot of hours over the last couple of years.

week ending ..

March 8: 3.103 million
March 15: 2.627 million
March 22: 2.258 million

that's an 845,000 viewer drop in 2 weeks.

Do those numbers count people who watch the show again later or DVR it? Just wondering because J&K+8 are now up against "American Idol" and that is a ratings sponge.

Kate is the one who has said over and over as soon as ONE family member is unhappy with the very public, stressful, scrutinized, lifestyle; it is over.

I think (and it's just my opionion) true misery in a relationship should trump happiness in the decision making process. There are lots of ways to be fulfilled and happy without involving your entire family's privacy, but being miserable is a strong emotion sometimes without much flexibility.

Yes, I do agree many men want to be providers of some sort. I don't think he is. No, Jon's happiness is not Kate's responsibility, but it is a marriage and I don't see how she can find true happiness in the lifestyle that he believes created his misery.

I wonder when Kate was undergoing fertility treatments, and longing so badly for children if she envisioned her role as a mother the way it is now?

now, that I don't know. TVbythenumbers shows DVR ratings, but only for the networks, best that I can can tell. According to Nielsen, who does that ratings .. their numbers include DVR playback on the same day. :confused3

American Idol isn't on Monday nights, it's on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Dancing With the Stars is on Mondays, though.
