An Invasion of a "STRANGER" Kind.... NEW THREAD IS UP!! Go Thee NOW!

Have you checked out my previous Jiko reviews?

But I will try to get the Jiko review done soon and PM it to you. Which shouldn't prevent us from talking about it in August as well! :goodvibes

I just did today. Not sure that I'd get the sturgeon- I can get that any time in the Pacific Northwest since they breed in the Columbia River.

I think if I had to pick my meal right this moment, I'd get the mussels appie, then see if LeeAnn would split the curry shrimp. Can't decide between the brulee and the cheese platter for dessert. :confused3

But I can tell you one thing I AM definitely getting... that dessert martini! WOW!

Scrooge McDuck is very popular here in Germany. He is called Dagobert Duck here (also Uncle Dagobert). The most popular Disney product here in Germany are pocket books filled with comics. And he is an important character in those. The books are called "Walt Disney's Lustige Taschenbücher" which means "Walt Disney's Funny Pocket Books". And this is what German kids used to grow up with. There are many characters, which are very popular here, which aren't known that well in the US like "Gyro Gearloose" called Daniel Düsentrieb hier in Germany. He is the crazy inventor.

Who knew?! :confused3 I"ve never heard of any of those! They sound like quite an icon though. :)

Keeping receipts is really helpful! All my dining reviews relied heavily on them and they are also helpful for the TR in order to figure out when did we buy what... :rolleyes1

I think there are others who've learned that lesson- one who's likely to have the last laugh in it. :cool2:

Oh and I hope that your visa situation can be settled soon!!

Still no word. They said Monday- so we'll see. I hate to show up at a graduation ceremony having not slept for 20 hours! :scared1:

Indeed, we've had all kinds of MAJOR drama today. We went over to DHL to ship our 7 boxes, and had a massive misunderstanding. When we called 3 weeks ago, she gave us a quote, but that ended up being for 1 BOX!

$600 for 1 BOX!!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1: We had planned on shipping 10 or so. Nope, $6,000 isn't in the budget to get our clothes, books, a few toys (the gargantuan Lego collection), souvenirs, etc... home. We came home VERY disheartened to say the least.

Then I had a brainstorm. There are many families leaving permanently this year from the big city. So I called one up to see how they were getting their stuff back to the US, they have some info. on a shipping co. She said that for like $10 a kilo we can ship stuff. If we have 200 kilo, that's only around $2,000. Not as much as DHL, and certainly less frightening than the local Post. We'll get more info. tonight when we call this family back and get more details. But we are definitely more hopeful than we were say, 3 hours ago. Cross your fingers for us!

Love the journal :thumbsup2

So, I have to ask....are those actual phone call expenses? :scared1:

Hi!! I hope all the hard work pays off on them. :rolleyes1

No, just a note to myself that that's how the payment was made- That would be quite some bill!

Scrooge McDuck is one of my very favorite characters! You must watch Ducktales! :lmao:

You are so super organized. I always have good intentions of keeping all of my reciepts and I think it lasts two days and then I end up tossing them all. :headache:

Well, at least I have the system.... and I have good intentions. Unfortunately, those 2 don't always add up to reality. :rolleyes1

OK, that's going on my list of stuff to watch. Sounds funny!

Scrooge swims through a huge vault of gold coins, how can you beat that!?!

I think they switch it around quite a lot which type of fish is served in that dish. I really liked the sturgeon, but I understand that this is too little exotic for you! :goodvibes

I had the Kenyan coffee dessert in January and that was wonderful. Unfortunately I did not manage to have another one of these dessert martinis. But it was sooo good!! :cloud9:

Oh no!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1: This was one the things you were calculating into your cost for your Germany trip because of the lower baggage allowance... I hope it works out for you!!!

we looked EVERYWHERE for a Scrooge McDuck pin for Jeff last feb and not a one was too be found.

He had to settle for Grumpy and Aviator Mickey.

Love ScroogeMcDuck!

Ah...financial planning. Love it, despise it. Realized last night I didn't have tips called out on mine.

Arrgh!

LOVE having things paid for!

I've heard Scrooge McDuck even comes out for autographs during the MVMCP. Not that you'll be there then. Just thought I'd mention it. :confused3

I always have good intentions of keeping track of expenses on our trips, but it quickly becomes unmanageable. The problem is, when you use the dining plan, the receipts that they give you don't tell you how much you would have spent. So, you'd have to write it down after seeing the bill. Even at CS. I could never keep up. And then I just throw my hands up and say, "what the heck, its already paid for anyway!"

Nice! :thumbsup2 Do you think he uses it to pay for his souvenirs and Signature Dining meals? :lmao: That's how much it's costing me. :rotfl2:

No, not too exotic... too common. You do realize that the Aral and Black Seas (which are pretty close) have a LOT of sturgeon. ;)

Yes! I want something very different! Coffee anything always hits the spot!

Yes, I know. Still cheaper than Lufthansa by a long shot, but more than we were anticipating. It cost us around $1,000 in shipping to get here. I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised at paying $2,000 to get home. :confused3

could you special order a Scrooge pin?? for a Christmas gift for him??

How come everyone knows about Scrooge and not me??

I planned my tips into my meal costs. I averaged about $6 per meal. Some will be higher, some less. Depends on if they keep my water full, and a smile on their happy Disney face.

I am so renting a McDuck when I get back- apparently, I am completely out of sync on this one.

Thanks for the heads up on needing to write things down esp. when on DDP. I would have slipped it into the pocket not ever even looking at it. I guess if it's a habit by the end of the first few days, then hopefully it'll stick.

Great idea to have a Financial section. I love that you used Scroog McDuck.

It was probably the same little birdie that got a hold of me. ;)

ACK!! Another person who even knows who Scrooge McDuck is. :guilty: Must become knowlegified.

I am VERY certain it was. :lmao:

Kind of like when you rip one in public (accidentally, of course!) and then cough to make sure those around you think you're clearing your throat. :lmao:
Cough Smoff. I pronounce a benediction and send them off with my blessings!

You can see that the bulk of the trip is already paid for!! :woohoo::woohoo:
:cool1:

Lastly, a little birdie told me that my receipts just might come in handy someday. :lmao::lmao::lmao: So I made a little pocket to stash them in. I'll dump them out each evening, and start amassing them anew each day...
I kept all of ours and they did come in handy for doing the dining review at the end of my TR. However, most have become so faded now that I can barely read them. (They use those thermal printers there and they just don't last.)

I hope you bless those about to die around you too.

Ooooh good recon there! I could really go all out and take pictures of them all-

just to be extra sure. :lmao:

You really are organized! Just look at that budget! Even the Mug has been accounted for.

I'm a stickler when it comes to keeping receipts. It helps me budget for my next trip... or how to cut down on my next trip :rolleyes1

DuckTales was my favorite show growing up. I bought the DVD set a few years back and watch it all the time. Out of the Not-so-famous Disney Characters Scrooge McDuck is my absolute favorite!!!!!!!!! I used to want to be like him and swim in a pile of coins! I always thought it was cool that he could actually SAVE money :rotfl2::rotfl2: I still haven't mastered that part yet!

I love the fact that you thought enough to make a financial section. That is something I would never think of!

Oh yes! Reciepts come in very handy when you are trying to remember the order of what you did for your TR....there are all date and time stamped.

I know that either DH or I had the creme brulee on our last trip, and it was fabulous. I looked at the menu, and think that the other dessert we (DH) got was the lemon curd, which he liked but I didn't as much. And I agree that those dessert martinis look amazing! They have similar drinks at a fondue restaurant chain here called The Melting Pot - yum! Can't wait til I can have one again.

Still no word. They said Monday- so we'll see. I hate to show up at a graduation ceremony having not slept for 20 hours! :scared1:

So nerve-racking! When we made our trip to Mexico last month, we had been up since 5 AM on Saturday (to make a character breakfast ADR at DL - so worth it!), and I did not get to sleep until 2 PM on Sunday (28 hours with a time change). To say I was exhausted was an understatement! :faint: The worst part was we had to attend a mass ceremony at noon on Sunday, and that was so hard to sit (and stand and kneel) through when that tired! I hope you are able to get some sleep sooner - graduation ceremonies can get rather long (and sometimes boring).

Yikes, that is a lot of money! Glad you were able to find a more reasonable solution.

Crap, I was looking at the Jiko dinner menu and didn't see MY filet there anymore! :scared1: But then I scrolled down to the Child's Menu and there it is - a $41 filet on the children's menu next to the $7 mac n cheese and the $6 PB&J :confused3 That is one expensive kid's meal!

I loved that you used Scrooge for the financial section! I only know him from the Mickey's Christmas movie that we used to watch when I was younger. It was 'A Christmas Carol' or something like that.

P.S. I just updated on the TR!
