Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

Funny, I too thought the finish was less than obvious. My clues were the guy just around the corner swearing that the finish was just around the corner, the two odd hour-glass shaped light balloons, Goofy with a really dirty glove and the Second timing mat. Oh, and the photographer who was kneeling 10 feet past the second timing mat in my path with flash a flashing. The bike racks started right at the turn so I knew I was close.

For the record, the finish line said FINISH - just not on the bridge.

Wait, Goofy was at the finish?!?!?!? I missed so much! I know I ran right past a couple of the photo ops, not realizing till it was too late...I also somehow missed the bananas at the finish line...

One other thing--the changing tent. OMG was it hot! I think I sweated more in there than I did on the race course!

This is the first runDisney race that I've actually noticed a character at the end! And I've run every WDW since Princess 2011. So I was so excited to give Goofy a high five--but now--oh man, I didn't notice his hand was gross. What did I touch??

I never change in the tents. I always go change in one of the bathrooms!

I must've missed the Big Bad Wolf. where was he? also, Hades was out when I got close to the finish (versus Pain and Panic someone else mentioned). I stopped for the Hag, Jack and Sally, the grave diggers and Hades. it added a little over 10 minutes to my time (comparing my Runmeter to my chip time since I paused my Runmeter). it was worth it though. I finished 1:53:41 and was able to run the entire thing (other than my character stops). I thought I might end up walking some, so I was happy with that.

now, I have to move my training towards the 10k and half in January.

this one was my first Disney race and I loved it!

I'm sure the G and H corrals were boosted by those of us stuck in the portapotty zone. Since I'm short and can't see all that wonderfully at night, I found a line and stuck with it, and spent something like 45 minutes in it. It was awful. I didn't know a thing about how a start works at a race like that and believed the people around me who said it was ok to stay in the line. (Of course, 30 min into the line i didn't have much choice as i needed it). Didn't realize my corral would be gone when I got there.

Now I know better. And I know to bring my phone so I don't wait for DH and DS for over an hour (they didn't get there until later and I only saw them after I finished) instead of doing what I needed to do. But I was just so lost at the party thing before the start.

Today we saw the LMA stunt show and I had the slow realization of "heyyyyy, I ran through here!" I was so oblivious as to where I was that night. I didn't even realize we ran around the hat. D'oh!

I just saw a video on Youtube of the race and the girl who posted the video said several others in the race saw their GPS read 10.76 miles at the end.Can anyone confirm this?

No, I cannot confirm that you saw the video or that the video said that. :lmao:

I love it when folks start popping in post race and complaining about the course being long as measured by their GPS.

Did she happen to mention anything about stopping for photos, potties, etc? Did they start their GPS at the start line or when the gun fired? Did they miss the finish line like many? At her rate of adding extra miles, whe would have run a 28.2 mile marathon.

This race is one of the easier races to hit the tangents - I measured a 10.06 race with my GPS. That was with a bath break in WWoS. I think the closeness was due to the lack or crowding and that 7+ of the miles were on long and relatively straight roadways.

Funny, I ran 3 events before seeing a finish line character. I am going to have to run the ToT 2014 so I can look up and see the ToT at the line.

I just noticed that I need to change my icon info to reflect the fall WISHES time.

People also need to remember that when a course is measured they measure it the shortest possible path that a runner can take on the course. Example, if you are turning left the person measuring will "hug" that corner as close as possible. If you are on the other side of the street when you make that corner it adds mileage. If you go into a bathroom and out, adds mileage. Zig zag thru the crowd to make your way around people, again adds mileage. All those add up... It's not at all uncommon for GPS watches to be more then what the official race length measures. Hope that helps! Glad to hear all the good race reports I'm planning on trying this one in the next year or two!

Short
I came, I ran, I ran again, I conquered.

I milled around the staging area. I was in corral F and loaded early. I caught a brief nap, I think. I heard the announcer say every so often that runners needed to be in their corrals no later than 9:10. As a long time Disney runner, I thought yeah right, you say that at every race. Then about 9:20-9:30 I saw corral A staging, followed by B. Once E started moving, the gates opened and a lot of folks were coming through the E corral – many from A-D, some bib numbers looked to be from later corrals – betting they were reassigned.

I may be back

We waited at the front of F also. It was myself in a bright green tank and shirt, DD16 in a Black/white Alice in Wonderland dress and green tutu.

It was a great race even better then last year, loved the baseball diamond "run for your lives"

By the time I hit the first mile I noticed that my distance and theirs were off from each other. Heard people complaining about that at each mile after. I think it was at the 4th mile that I finally realized that weaving around others will add mileage to your feet. So it was not their problem, but ours. :). I think very slowly while running lol.

But I remember the commentators at the last Olympics talking about that during the marathon, that its measured at the shortest way to run. If you don't run that route you are running more than you need to. Since it took us a year to watch the Olympics it was still stuck in my head.

Even though I doubt he's a dis guy, just wanted to thank the guy wearing his medal yesterday at DHS. I put mine on for TOT and forgot to take it off, and he saw me as I left the ride and pointed to his medal. :). We promised to keep them on for the day. :)

Since we start the universal part of our trip today I doubt I'll see anyone with the medal so I can probably leave it in the room. Or maybe in my purse. ;)

I can probably also stop "refueling" at this point. I think I'm replenished by now!

We chatted! Your DD ran off to the potty and while away the corral opened...

Hope her costume wrked well through the night.

No, but I clocked in at 10.27 miles thanks to going back and forth the width of the course a couple times and entirely too much weaving in the beginning.

I always expect that at Disney races, though. What surprised me was a TIME difference: both my Garmin and iSmoothRun app clocked me running almost 2 minutes less than Disney... I started both at the start line and turned both off at least 20 seconds after crossing the finish and had auto-pause turned off on both. It wouldn't bother me at all except that I missed my time goal by 1:10 going by the official time, but beat it according to my devices. Grrrrrr.

Mine said 10.02 miles. Made one stop at the port a pots in the median along Osceola Parkway.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's recap after the race - it's getting me even more excited/nervous about PHM, which will be my first ever runDisney race and my longest race ever. Congrats to everyone!

PrincessV - you crack me up with that cookie sheet. Looking forward to part 2!

my Runmeter was off a bit from where i'd pause it during the characters and re-start it as i was already walking/running. so, i ended up just shy of 10 miles when i crossed the finish.
