**** Official 2014 AUGUST - Disneyland thread ****

your welcome :) It's a pleasure. Now I get to check in on it and think Disney thoughts almost EVERY day!! :goodvibes

We haven't been to Surf's Up before, but all the reviews I have read sound really good. Looking forward to trying it out this time! :)

We did Surf's Up and it is good but we found it loud and a bit chaotic, although that might have been partly because it was our son's first trip and it was just 4 months after he was diagnosed as autistic.

This is our favorite character meal to take our girls to! We have been 3 times now, planning on a 4th with this visit. The character interaction is just sooo good. My girls always end up playing with the characters after our meal, and they stay for a long time. My DH and I monitor carefully to make sure it's not a problem (not monopolizing or wearing out our welcome), but it never has been. Our visit when littlest DD was just learning how to walk was the best. She wasn't a fan of the characters yet, but Mickey spent so long trying to get her to be ok with him. A good 20 minutes. (mickey stays up front and doesn't walk around to tables, but he's right there in the restaurant, so as long as there isn't anyone waiting or a picture, he plays with the kids) It was really sweet and my DD finally warmed up. DD4 absolutely loves all the playtime with her favorites- Donald, Stitch, and Mickey.

I hope you have as much fun as we do!

I think I will definitely have to look into Surfs Up a bit more.

Modegard - I just realized we are neighbors! Hello from next door in Saskatchewan! :wave2:

Is this at pch grill? And is it breakfast only?

Hi everyone!
My family, extended family, and I are coming in from aug 2-10.. Dolphins cove

My family (DH, me, DD(7), and DD (2) ) are from the New England area

My extended family all live on the west coast.. So it's a big trip for us..
We normally go to WDW.. It has been years since we have been to DL and CA..
We are so looking forward to it

So far meals we want to do are
Ariel's grotto
BTM BBQ
PCH Grill character meal
Story tellers
Plaza inn breakfeast
Golden Horseshoes
Goofy kitchen
Carthy circle

Another vote for the Surf's Up breakfast at the Paradise Pier. We were the first family through the door when we went and had lots of time with each character. Even my oldest who hates to do anything that brings attention to himself got up and danced with the characters.

We are trying to decide between Surf's Up and Minnie's in the park. We've never done Minnie's before (just Goofy's and Surf's Up). But the rest of our group did Minnie's last time so we will have to figure that out.

August 23rd-28th at DI&S

we've been to DL in late august the last couple years and often its been really hot (hot for Anaheim, not Sacramento hot:))

Thanks for adding my dates to the list. We are staying at BWPPI. First time there. In the past we have stayed at DLH and the Fairfield. This trip my husband is skipping and I am taking my girls, 11 & 14 and another 14 year old as a guest. All girls trip. We have 5 days in park and thanks to the new no add date rules without paying through the nose, we are thinking of doing a day Knotts? No car, taking the plane, so thought a cheap bus trip would be the way to go. Any thoughts on this would be great. In the past we have done Universal Studios, Raging Waters, Walk of Fame. I am very disappointed in not being able to add the extra days cheap, I really wanted to get a 7 day pass. :mad: I saw that there is a hidden mickey app. Anyone use this before. I thought it might be fun to do. This year I want to do all the rides again. The last 2 years with my husband it is all about the big rides and fast passes. We never even went to Fantasyland last year. :(
Planning on doing the World of Color Dinner as a special treat. Using my Disney chase card to earn Disney $ to pay for the dinner.

We love SU, but Plaza is so nice, too! The ambiance is really wonderful. I think you would enjoy it!

I'm just hoping for no record breaking heat. Part of our party is from Houston and St. George Utah so I'm guessing Anaheim will be cool by comparison to those two places. And probably cooler than Salt Lake where we are from too.

Can you elaborate on this...define "Anaheim hot" and "Sacramento hot" please?

I'm in Canada and consider anything over 30 degrees "OMG, I'm melting, hot".

:sunny:

Sac gets much hotter than Anaheim, typically, so I think that is what DaveNinja meant. :)

Typically, it's warm in Anaheim in August, averaging in the mid 80s. It's a very dry heat, usually, so it feels a bit different than if you are used to humidity, like at WDW. I cannot imagine visiting Orlando in August... I melt just thinking about it! :crazy2:

It can get quite hot in Anaheim though. One year we went, it was a major heat wave- temps hit up to 110 on our arrival day, and slowly dropped through our visit down to mid-90s. It was also quite humid (for us Cali folk ;)). That's not the norm, however, but it is possible.

Hello! I have a lot of family in Sask and have spent much time there. :) My mom is from Preeceville.

:wave2: Hi from a neighbour to the West!

Hello from the west! One of my favorite places. :)

:)

We have been to Minnie's for breakfast before, and really enjoyed it. Seemed like there was a lot of characters there but the food was not as good as Goofy's. Still good tasting but the selection was smaller. Also, at the time they did not have a good set up for a family photo before the meal started. They just took our photo near the railing and there was no character in the picture with us. I thought that was weird since the others have a backdrop and a character poses with you.

Oh, I totally got what DaveNinja was saying...I was just trying to get an idea of what Sacramento hot was...are we talking 80's? 90's? over 100? (allow me to figure out the Fahrenheit to Celsius conversion!)

80 = 26.5
90 = 32
100 = 37.7
110 = 43.3 (Holy heck, can somewhere GET that hot and is my face melting off?)

Lol!

Sac averages 90s in August, but yes, it can go over 100. Honestly, it's not that terrible when it's not humid. I am from the East Coast originally, and I just can't handle even high 80s when it's humid, but 100 just doesn't really bother me out here.
