Tower of Terror 10 Miler 2014

I'm pretty sure that ALL resorts are host resorts for the Marathon.

None of the restaurants/food courts were open early in the morning for Princess either--I just made sure to buy some snacks the night before (I got an uncrustables peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some fruit). I think that's another advantage of staying in a place with a kitchen--more control over what you can have for breakfast!
I did call and there is a cabin available for the dates I need, as well as a 1 bedroom DVC villa at Saratoga Springs. just waiting for the opportunity to talk to my husband and see if we are bringing the whole family or if it's just me going down. I don't really want to stay in a cabin all by myself! :)

I am still a rookie at runDisney races, and races in general so I haven't looked at all of the details of all the races. But, it seems to make sense given how big that weekend is. They probably have to make all the resorts host resorts to accomodate everyone.

But, I think I would need a kitchen if nothing was open. I don't think "snacks" would be enough to fill me up for a marathon.

I began looking at different races to start planning which one I might want to do next and to try and get an idea how much money I need to save. :confused3 I know, it is just days since we got back. But, I want to make a more educated decision for my next rD race. I picked this one based on it being the shortest distance. I want my next one to be based on the whole experience. I don't see distance being the issue next time.

As for the kitchen issue. I hate to say it, because I love the whole Disney experience when i go, but I think it might be WAY cheaper to go off property than to get a DVC with a kitchen, unless I found a great deal renting. I found a 2 bed, 2 bath condo for the 2015 Marathon weekend for as low as $68/night. I know I'm not going to that race but I am just looking for a guideline. For 4 nights I could get the condo and rental car for about $500. I am already dying to sign up for the next one.

I don't blame you on the cabin if going alone. That seems pretty big, and pricey, if going alone.

The tweet was deleted, though, so who knows if that was correct? :confused3

PrincessV- I read your report on the race. Very nice. I don't blame you for wanting to move on to another race, even if the ToT is offered again next year. It seems you have gotten all you can out of it for now.

As for them not offering it next year. With the closing of the Backlot Tour it does seem like things are finally about to change at HS and if there is construction it could make the race more difficult. Although it's Disney, if they wanted to make it happen, they could. I am assuming they'd replace it with another race. I doubt they are going to eliminate a race given how popular they are.

I also wanted to say a thank you to you. Everyone was supportive on this thread but it seems any time I had a question or concern (or anyone for that matter) you always seemed to be there for an answer. I appreciate it.

Before I forget. I saw something, I can't remember where, that said a week after the race we could print out a certificate that we finished the race. Anyone know where to do that. And where can we find the pics?

If you go on the RunDisney website, up at the top it says "Results" Since we just finished Tower of Terror, it will bring up that site--but if you wanted to look several months from now and they have a different race up, you just select Tower of Terror from the drop down menu.
Scroll down, and on the left it talks about your finishers certificate. They aren't up yet, usually they will be available a couple weeks after the race. I think I remember from last year that they emailed me when it was available.

For photos, go to Marathonfoto.com (yes, spelled foto, not photo) :)

Maybe there will be a Haunted Mansion Half Marathon to replace it :thumbsup2

Start in ESPN run thru AK and finish in the MK or ESPN thru HS, Epcot and still finish in the MK. Have the finish line as you come thru the castle onto Main Street. Great finish line picture.

I would definitely do that!:cheer2::cheer2:

I also want to add my thanks to everyone on this thread! This was my first Run Disney race and I had a lot of questions, many of which were answered right here. I ended up having a great time though the sheer size of the event was a little overwhelming, which I'm sure is funny to you veterans since I hear this is one of the smaller events. Princess V, I enjoyed reading your write up on your race experience. Sounds like you had a great time! I'm probably going to have a couple posts about the weekend but here's my first one about my experience at the expo.

So it looks like it's "facebook official." Run Disney posted that same schedule on their facebook page with no "Tower of Terror" :(

I called Run Disney to ask about people who deferred this year, and she said people who deferred should be getting an email later today with information. She said most likely credit towards another race.

I am super glad I did this race this year, had been wanting the 2 previous years but couldn't work it out. Perfect timing! Hopefully it'll come back and it's going away only because of awesome expansions lol. I'm def going to try to do Wine and Dine next year.

That's what I'm hoping.
Thank goodness for early registration with the AP.
Cause Wine and Dine '15 is going to have some TofT folks jumping on board. :)

Thanks. I went and checked out my pics. Nothing really great that makes me want to spend $24.95 for a single pic but it is also hard to tell from a little pic.

As for the race being cancelled next year. If it is never to return then this had to be the best year to end it given how perfect the weather was.

I would be VERY interested in the Haunted Mansion 1/2 marathon. MK is my favorite park so any chance to run through MK would be appealing.

I do hope the cancellation of the race is because of some major changes coming to that park. I feel like a bad fan by saying that HS is just not appealing to me. It is just boring the way it is now. If not for Fantasmic, which I LOVE, I wouldn't go to to that park right now.

I went for a run this morning. I am still suffering from serious blister issues but I had to get out there. While I my run all I could think about was what my next race will be and how soon I will be able to get back there to do it. It was so much fun. :thumbsup2

Many years ago, didn't they have a Tower of Terror 13k, then it went away for a few years and re emerged as the 10 miler? Maybe that is what will happen with this--it will go away for a few years (during construction) and re-emerge as a half marathon?

Though I have to say, I really liked that it was a different distance--a good compromise between the 10k and half marathon.

I def agree, def perfect for me, I've done 5k,10k and now 10 miler, but I feel I'm not quite ready for a 1/2 so the 10 miler was the perfect choice for me for a first Disney and first big race.

Yeah, I think it went on a 3 year hiatus and then came back as the 10-Miler. I also enjoyed the different distance. I've done 5Ks, 10Ks, and a 1/2 and I enjoyed the 10-miler. Not to mention it was just a fun race. I hope all they're doing is waiting to see how the construction will alter the course before bringing it back.

If the TOT run returns, it would be really difficult to out do the perfect weather. I had so much fun! Today, I feel fully recovered and getting ready for my next big race... The SF Nike run. :) The biggest issue during my recovery were my ankles, most likely from the slanted roads on the TOT course. Did anyone else have the same problem?

I had soreness on the sides of my calfs...somewhere between my calfs and my shins...could not figure out why, but now that you say that I bet it was from the slanted roads!!!

Besides that, most of my soreness is from walking around so much more before/after the race rather than running!

Those slanted roads killed my knee and hip! And the first sharp right turn I twisted my knee and every other sharp turn after that was excruciating! And I really couldn't believe the weather. I was definitely prepared for the heat and am definitely thankful for the cooler temps!

One of My friends had hip issues from the slants. I tried to stay towards the bottom while she was up at the steepest point thinking it would be easier. I had minimal soreness, she had a lot of stiff hip issues.

Thank you for your kind words! :goodvibes Honestly, I've gotten soooo much good info and support from the DIS, and it's important to me to carry that on, now that I'm an rD vet. I'm glad at least some of my ramblings were helpful! ;)

Yep, and it wouldn't surprise me to see them do something like that as "filler".
