Fear the Walking Dead - anyone?

Dianeyprince, I don't know if they ever intend to explain how it started. From what we've seen in twd, the only people who had any info were all gone (CDC guy). But we don't have input from the rest of the country/world at this point, so who knows. I also don't read the comics, so not sure what's in there.

I don't think they're ever going to get into that. Kirkman has been clear right from the start that what he's interested in is how the people left behind cope, react, and adapt. I think that's probably a good idea; getting into origin of the epidemic risks getting bogged down in details or crossing a line that breaks the fantasy of the show.

I enjoyed it....sort of. ;) After all the hype, it was a bit of a letdown. But no so bad that I'm willing to write it off already. I'll definitely be tuning in this Sunday to see where this goes. DH and DD were not impressed though. They wanted more action, LOL.

I think since I'm already a WD fan, I'm willing to try out a few more episodes to see where it goes. If I wasn't a WD fan, I'm not sure it would have kept my interest enough to keep watching.

We have been looking forward to this as well. It was a little slow, but it's going to be. In Rick's world, it was all about the zombies. In FTWD, they are going to be confronted w/ the decline of civilization first; looters, martial law, being trapped in the city, all while also dealing w/ zombies.

I think it will definitely speed up, as that fall of civilization is going to happen very fast.

Did anyone find themselves telling the characters to just shoot them in the head?

I liked it alot. I also don't find the Walking Dead slow, so this pace was ok for me. I know that's how they have to do it, since we know way more about what's happening than any of the characters on the show actually do.
I didn't think Gloria ate them all either, I figured there were now 4 walkers up and roaming around the area of the church.
I like the son, I felt bad for him for awhile because he thought he was crazy, then he killed that guy. I was glad for him to finally see he wasn't crazy. Still a drug addict, but at least he did see what he think he saw.
It was so strange to see so many humans living a normal life when we are used to The Walking Dead.

I really enjoyed it. Yes, I imagine it will seem slow since we are used to TWD and how fast it can move at times and all the zombies. What I found interesting was the scene where Alicia and her friends were watching the video of the guy being shot and they thought it was fake. I think with the way social media is these days, and all the various hoaxes that can be found there, people are taking the things lightly and not believing them. I think many people too will be a bit desensitized because of all the violence, death and destruction we see (or have access to) on a daily basis.

I told them that several times. I also told them to run and not to get out of their cars. I was frustrated by their unwillingness to heed my advice.

LOL, My husband (who has not watched more than the first two Walking Dead) said "don't get out of the car" when the mom and her boyfriend went to talk to Dead Travis behind the truck. I said to him "they haven't seen the Walking Dead LOL, they don't know what a walker is yet".

Also remember that TWD takes place in world where 'Night of the Living Dead' and other zombie fiction never happened. People in this world have never heard of a zombie so they don't even have a fictional baseline to compare what's happening. The dead rising is completely foreign to them on many levels.

I still only remember 3, guy on the stairs, Gloria and Gloria's dinner but I must have missed one. I'm guessing she ate all her dinner, or at least between her and the other one (or two) they consumed him so there would be 2 or 3 roaming around. If it's a drug area, probably not a lot of people to see them. They may just think they are on a bad trip until it's too late too.

I saw the one on the stairs, then I think he turned his head and saw one more, before he walked over to Gloria and her chow. But I could be wrong, it surely won't be the first time.

And sober people are likely to think the new walkers are strung out on something... Remember the face-eating druggie in FL that went viral a while back? Even in a world with zombie fiction that's the place most people's minds would go, not to the actual living dead!

I think it was wonderful how the chaos slowly built in the background without the characters registering it. The missing persons flyers on the wall, the phone in the hospital ringing off the hook, the sirens, the boyfriend not answering texts, all those little things that are such a part of modern life that they don't quite manage to point to a major problem as the zombie epidemic begins. I didn't find the episode slow at all and I'm really looking forward to next week.

I am a huge Walking Dead fan, so I am looking forward to this. Anyone else? I have been watching the marathons on Sundays & all the trailers.

Can't wait :jumping2::jumping2:
I watched it and thought it was just o.k. I hope it gets better because I love The Walking Dead!

We liked it since it will show us what we didn't see in TWD and the process they will go through.

Have any of the creators given reasons as to why they're not going to explain how it started? Do they not know or are we finding that out later in TWD at some point?

Kirkman has always said that it doesn't matter how it all started. That's not something he's really interested in explaining or exploring.

As for last night's ep, I actually really liked it. There was tension in every scene. And the son - what a combo of Johnny Depp and Skeet Ulrich. But he walks like a walker and that was really freaking me out. I also like seeing everything happen from a much different "west coast" angle with a different set of characters with a whole different set of life problems to deal with.

I get WHY they weren't listening to me hahaha! ;) I did have to keep forcing myself to think though-how would I have reacted? Would I have gotten out and tried to help people who looked like they were out of it and hurt? You know in big cities especially, people like that are avoided like the plague. It was really interesting!!

I agree with all of this!!
The text message "where are you". "You better be dead". Eek

A slow burn for sure, but so was the pilot of TWD (I actually bailed before the end of the episode as it bored me to tears...nothing but Rick wandering around and waiting for something to pop out at him...plus I had heard about the horse at the end of the episode and was like "aaaaaand i'm OUT!"). Hopefully FTWD will pick up a bit.

Did anyone else think mom looked like an aged Elizabeth Shue and the son looked like a strung out Keith Coogan? It was Zombie Adventures in Babysitting Lol!

I know they'll never admit the cause of the Zompocalypse but I secretly hope/think it's caused by Blue Sky (the meth Walt invented on Breaking Bad).

I haven't read the comics but if they never know how it started, how can they create a vaccine for it? Or perhaps they never do and they just all die in the end?

I was so convinced it was her when I saw the commercials! Definitely a little disappointed that it wasn't!

Technically everyone is "infected". That's why they all come back, even if they're not bitten. Any vaccines would have to come after a cure and be for future generations, I guess!
