The Running Thread - 2016

QOTD: Since tomorrow is the last day of the month and I usually do not get the chance to post on the weekends, todays question can be answered now or tomorrow. This will also be the last QOTD for the year, so its a fitting question. What is your monthly mileage for December and for 2016?

December = 35.98
2016 = 1158.09

Yup, was not easy at all. Everyone I talked to was a good 15 minutes off their expected time, myself included. Awesome experience though...I'm going to shoot for the 2019 race.

Yeah, I think I was about 11-12 minutes off of what a great race would have produced. So I missed requalifying by a minute and a half and entry by three plus minutes. The good news was that it looked like I suffered less than other people. I started the race in the low 8000s and finished in the low 4000s. I was surprised at how toasted my legs were when I hit 20 and it was literally all downhill from there. Quads were trashed.

The best part of it in my opinion was to be able to just run with a pack of people for the entire time. Congrats on the finish!

ATTQOTD

December totals:
Mileage - 175 miles (includes a 5 miler tomorrow)
Average HR - 128 BPM - great improvement over the year as I recovered from my injury down time.
P90X - 7 hours

2016 Totals:
Mileage - 1,578 miles (includes a 5 miler tomorrow)
Average HR - 137 BPM
P90X - 114 hours

Total exercise - As of tomorrow I will have exercised 441 times for a total time of almost exactly 441 hours. Crazy how that worked out. I will have burned 240,000 calories exercising. If I were trying to lose weight, that exercise alone would account for almost 69 pounds of weight loss. Imagine how overweight I would be if I didn't run? :eek:

Gotta keep moving. ::yes::

With yesterday's QOTD, I'm amazed by the range of athletes here, from beginners to elites! And everyone's so welcoming and helpful. This board is awesome!

ATTQOTD:

December = 188.58 so far ... was planning on additional 11 over today and tomorrow, but now that I see how close I am, I'm going to try to bump it up to 11.42 to get to 200 for the monthly total. Will update tomorrow. I'm sure everyone will be waiting with bated breath! :P

2016 = 1667, but if including non-recorded treadmill miles and the additional 12 = 1770

ATTAOTD: assuming I get my runs in this weekend, 109.5 for December and 710.45 for the year. Really surprised the yearly total is over 700 since I was sideline in January/February and then started from scratch afterward.

EDIT: remembered that my second run of the weeeknd is tomorrow, thus not counting for December/2016! So final totals:
101.5 for the month
702.45 for 2016

December = 257.61 through yesterday. I'm running 7 in a little while and then 8 tomorrow. That's going to put me close to 273 for the month... my all-time high.

2016 = 2001.03 through yesterday. If all goes right with my run today and tomorrow, I will end the year at 2016 miles. That wasn't a goal. A few weeks back I was wondering if I'd end the year near 2000 miles. When I added my year-to-date mileage to what I was planning for the rest of December, I realized I'd be at 2013 or 2014. So I started adding a tenth or so here and there to get to 2016. Silly, but it became a thing for me.

Just what shows up online, but just about to head out for a run now.

December - 161 miles
2016 - 1788 miles (plus 2941 miles on the bike and 272,000m of swimming)

Aw man, so close! That is a great result on a tough day though. I was just over 2 minutes shy of requalifying so I know how you feel :)

*Assuming I get in two more 8 mile runs tonight and tomorrow.

December Running Totals
Completed/Scheduled (%)
Running Mileage - 232.58 miles / 265.75 miles (87.5%)
Running Duration - 33:00:00 / 37:45:14 (87.4%)
Average Pace - 8:31 min/mile
Average HR - 136 bpm

From a % completed of scheduled standpoint, December was probably my worst month. I took a very conservative approach to the winter. We had some crazy cold days (-30F wind chill), I got a mild cold, and I was still being cautious with whatever happened to me injury-wise in October. Overall though, another solid month in preparation for my Sextuple PR Dopey Challenge attempt.

2016 Running Totals
Completed/Scheduled (%)
Running Mileage - 2500.15 miles / 2608.80 miles (95.8%)
Running Duration - 360:05:00 / 370:17:50 (97.2%)
Average Pace - 8:38 min/mile
Average HR - 137 bpm (for reference, my marathon HR is 152 and my 5k HR is 168)
Elevation Gain - 75,962 feet (Everest is 29,029 feet at its peak)
Calories - 298,131
Average Distance per running day - 8.9 miles
Average Duration per running day - 1:17:11

*The scheduled mileage and duration for 2016 was based on summing each scheduled training cycle (Jan-May, May-Oct, Oct-Dec) and was not the planned mileage at the beginning of the year. I was shooting for 2,016 miles.

2016 will likely go down as the most miles I have run in a year for some time. I'm not sure whether I'll ever surpass that again, primarily because I ran too many miles for my current fitness level during the May-October cycle. All things considered, 2016 was a very solid running year for me. The main goal for the year was run lots of good miles. I knew 2016 was not going to be the year of the BQ because my fitness was too far away.

For my career,

2011 - 0 miles
2012 - 335.2 miles
2013 - 780.0 miles
2014 - 1091.7 miles
2015 - 1915.6 miles
2016 - 2500.2 miles

Career - 6622.8 miles

2017 has been circled on my mental calendar for the last 5 years. All these miles have been building to the penultimate goal of qualifying for Boston and running a sub 3 hour marathon. That means 2017 will be the year of "If you want it, PROVE IT, by doing what is necessary to get it!"

QOTD: Do you have or had a piece of running gear (could be shoes, clothes, hydration system, lights, fuel, ect.) that you heard great things about and tried out, only to find that it simply just did not work for you?
I would say the little fuel belts? I haven't found the right position for the one I have yet. I also haven't had that many long runs since the summer when I needed hydration either.

QOTD: What are you most proud of doing running wise in 2016?
I did my first (three) half marathon(s).

December = 36.16
2016 = 500 even*
I will admit to committing to do an extra half mile tomorrow to hit 500 exactly. Heck I may make it an extra mile if the local running club is out.

I'm looking at doing a 70.3 or two next year, would like to try and qualify for Worlds in Chattanooga...which ones are thinking about doing?

I'm going to do Gulf Coast 70.3 (heading back to Panama City Beach) in May then another two in October (Rev 3 Punta Cana - Half Distance and New Orleans 70.3)

As for my distance this year, I'm at 1,283.22 miles (116 in December) and have one more planned tomorrow for our annual NYE Beer Mile.

December = 40.56 but I am doing about 5 this evening and a 5K tomorrow so it should end up about 48.66
2016 = 607.51 (615.61 with the above runs added.

Lower than normal but it gives me a goal for next year. Since I didn't do (or train for) a full this year and plan to for 2017 it should end up higher even with having to train around a new baby.

QOTD Spinoff - Whats you're 2016 mileage while at Disney (on or off grounds, DCL, Castaway Cay, etc)?

ATTQOTD Spinoff - With only one short trip to the parks in 2016 I managed only one run this year = 3.4 miles (officially). Looking back at the route I remember this was a day where my GPS didn't pick up right away and I think I must have missed the first .6mi. I cant think of another reason I would have started on one side of the resort and ended on the other and not kept running till I hit mile 4.

With three days prior to our Cruise, a 4 night cruise and another 3 nights after our cruise I'll easily increase that number in 2017.
