Theme Parks you visited that no longer exist

Palisades Park in New Jersey where I was in the "Little Miss America" contest (ok that was embarrassing!) and also Action Park in Vernon (which was known as "Traction Park" as someone was always getting hurt there). How could I forget "Jungle Habitat" where I worked in the summers back in the 70's during high school.

The most popular ride at Action (Traction) Park

1. The ambulance ride.

thus why it closed

Is there no one from Northern IN or Chicago here!!!!

Riverview in Chicago

Enchanted Forest in Chesterton, IN (has turned into water park and is now in Porter IN - gotta love government and boundry changes)
I'm from the Chicago area, and my parents used to always take us to the Enchanted Forest in Chesterton we were growing up. We used to get the biggest thrill from petting and feeding the deer.

We also went to the park in Thorntown, IN that closed because a kid's train derailed, killing an older woman and paralyzing her granddaughter, who is now about 15 or so, but 4 at the time, as I recall. It was in the news locally last week because of the Mission Space death. I don't remember the name of the park, though.

paragon park - my aunt & uncle lived in Hull and my uncle got discount tickets thru his job at the post office so I spent tons of time there. I finally got brave enough to try the roller coaster and loved it. Then I used my own money to buy tickets from my uncle. Of course a few weeks later the park closed down. I think the slide is still up but that wasn't directly in the park. I also loved that there was no admission fee so you could go back and forth between the beach, park, relatives etc

Benson's animal farm - spend many field trips there as well as family trips

Storybookland - somewhere near Weir's Beach in NH I loved the crooked mans house and since my brother one a free round of min golf I first started playing mini golf there

Revere Beach - had rides but not sure if it ever had a official name but the grandstand is still there unfortunately it is not the same place it used to be but it okay for daytime

I don't know for sure but my father says that we used to go to Whalom Park, Lincoln Park which aren't doable now and that Salem Willows is not what it used to be.

I saw it mentioned a couple of times in the thread - Land of Oz in Beech Mountain, NC. I remember going there several times. You went in Dorothy's house and the tornado would come through, and then when you exited the house the witch's feet would be sticking out from under the house. I remember being SO freaked out about that! Other than that, I don't remember much else except walking on the yellow brick road, and it seems like there were sit-down shows.

I also remember going to Santa Land, but I think it may still be there (somewhere in the NC mountains).

Santa's Land is still there in Maggie Valley NC

Just found this thread.

Have to add Marshall Hall, MD!
Got there on the Wilson Line boat on the Potomac River from DC. First stop was Mount Vernon. Anyone else remember this?

Also enjoyed Glen Echo, Enchanted Forest and Gwynn Oak Park all in MD.

Thanks for the memories!

Yes!!!

We lived in Ohio for only a short time when I was young, but my Dad worked for Westinghouse and they have several company days there.

What a great roller coaster! My sister, brother and I would ride it over and over again. I also remember the fun house there being different than any I'd seen before.

There is a book in our library called something like "Euclid Park is Closed for the Season". Very interesting history of the park.

We also liked Boardwalk & Baseball in Orlando. They had a decent coaster.

Okay I am really dating myself, but my grandparents use to work at "The Beach" I got on all the rides for free. My Grandfather worked in kiddie land, and my grandmother was head ticket taker and worked the ice cream station. My favorite was the Flying Turns (no track, you went in a half-barrell like chute). Who remembers Laughing Sal? When they closed the park, my brother grabbed one of the monsters from the Laugh in the Dark that was left out in the trash. If you have ever rode Cedar Downs at Cedar Point, that was originally at Euclid Beach. They have the carosel back in cleveland, and they are trying to get it back somewhere on the lakefront. If you want more memories, click on the link.

:confused3

I went once about 15 years ago....the only thing I remember is a white styrofoam head, used to scare people on some haunted boat ride....it was the kind your grandmother would put her wig on overnight....for those of you that had a grandmother like that.

I see you're a big Lucy fan. Your Mine & OUrs was one my favorite movies.
I bought the DVD at Target for $10.00 My family and friends have given my every I love Lucy item, from games, blankets, dolls. etc.
The Lucille Ball museum at Universal was the only think I liked there.
I wish they had outside the park.
I'm a bigger Lucy fan than a Disney fan.;) Yours, Mine and Ours is my favorite movie. A really good friend from the DIS gave me a DVD of the movie for my last birthday. :) I watch it often.:teeth: I have the I Love Lucy game too and several other Lucy items.:teeth:

I'd love to see the Lucille museum, but I've never made it to Universal. I have a pic of me with her bust at MGM though.:teeth:

I think Frontierland and Ghost Town in the Sky were in Maggie Valley and /or Cherokee, North Carolina.

Does Carowinds still exist? I remember when that opened in the '70s.

What about Tweetsie railroad in NC?

I remember Silver Springs and Weekee Wachee in the days of old Florida.
