Enjoyed it. Maybe a bit too long, but a roller coaster of emotions and much darker movie than a lot of them. (I mean the good guys were reduced to what? two dozen? Yikes).
The casino heist just felt out of place though, but I understand what they were trying to do with it (war is a machine .. is there really good guys or bad guys when it comes to war) .. just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the movie.
The comedy worked, and who doesn't love the Porgs?
My son (5 yo) took well to his parents seeing the movie without him. He somehow accepts that it is "not for little kids" and was just happy enough to hear all about it from us. He didn't even see the movie and he was crying "happy tears" when I told him some parts!
(though he roots for the bad guys a bit too much, heh).
I had children later in life. I COULD have had children in my mid-20s (like most people) and I could have had young kids that would have been the perfect age for the prequels, but life had me wait until I was in my late 30s to have children, and frankly I'm glad (for Star Wars reasons -heh). These movies were a great way (way better than the prequels) to introduce the next generation to the Star Wars Universe. Better stories, better characters, just better.
