The nutters in CA who chained up 13 kids...

Well, their current dogs seemed to be cared for (but they are also only a year or less old). When the Turpins moved out of their Texas home they dumped a kitten in the dumpster on property and left their two dogs locked inside the house to eat dirty diapers until they were discovered weeks later. Make no mistake, these people have no care or concern for any living being other than themselves.
thankfully that kitten was saved by a neighbor.

I haven’t gotten through the whole thread, but ... regarding how the teen knew to call “911” ... I have an iPhone and rather than dialing 911, you need only hit the “Emergency” button to dial 911. Perhaps that partially explains WHAT she knew to dial. I guess the other part is a matter of HOW she knew to call for an Emergency.

Jesus. The alert I got was that the dogs were well cared for. Clearly they didn’t do the research. These people are just sick.

Preface: Given the information that is available (which is always subject to change), I'm currently of the opinion that the mother does not appear to be the a "go-along-with-the-husband's-evilness-because-she-is-too-cowed-to-stand-up-to-him" type of wife, but rather someone who is actively and willingly complicit in a horrific act. There are, unfortunately, zillions of cases where one of the partners is the active perpetrator while the other plays a more passive role, but this doesn't seem to be the case here.

Which brings me to my intended point - HOW did these two people find each other? I understand that there are many, many individuals out there who are capable of unspeakable atrocities, but for two people capable of such horror to "join forces" is just amazing and terrifying to me.

Last nights 20/20 showed they grew up in the same town, attended the same church and their parents were all friends. The couple ran away to Texas when she was in her teens, when they returned her parents wanted to file charges against him, but they just got married and moved back to Texas. Her sister had revealed before that he used to watch her shower, on the show last night she said they both used to come in and watch her shower, even though she claimed she would always have the door locked.

Brings to mind tho Canadian horror inflicting duo of the early 90's Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. Now there is an example of how evil attracts evil. Unspeakable crimes.

I was just going to post about the possibility of cadaver dogs being brought in. I hope that the search all former properties too. As disturbing as the idea is, it needs to be addressed as a possibility.

I also read that they are considering administering DNA tests to the kids.

I've been having an internal debate with myself over what is the most cruel aspect of what we know occured. I don't know why, just trying to sort it out in my head I suppose. Everything about it is obviously cruel.

I think what troubles me the most is the food thing. Making/buying pies and setting them out to taunt the children. It reminds me of a photo I saw from a concentration camp where some local women were sitting on a wall, overlooking the prisoners, smiling and eating blueberry cobbler. It was unspeakably cruel. They went out of their way to taunt and torture those poor people, and these parents did the same. I just can't imagine, well doing any of those horrible things, but taunting a starving child with food just haunts me.

They belong in the deepest circle of Hades. I am so devastated for those kids.

It's all horrible. I just can't even wrap my mind around any of it.

So did they buy the toys for the kids as well or did those come from family members that never got opened over time?

I saw something in a news report that there were lots of Disney collectibles. Mom probably hoarded them thinking they'll be worth some money some day. Really makes me wonder if she was a poster on these boards, maybe I'll go comb through the Disneyland forum and see if anyone like her pops up.

I suppose that's possibly true, but to me it sounds more like an estranged half-brother looking for his 15 minutes by getting in on the act.

That was the first time that I had heard of a half brother, the focus has been on her sister.
