This Is Us- Season two

For me, the hour flies by. Have you watched from the beginning?
My dh and I have watched from the beginning. We hung on this season to see Jack finally die. We are just watching for the pace to pick up. They seem to stretch EVERY scene out way past it's time. that's our opinion...and like I said we most likely will give up after the wedding.

I'm still enjoying it but am also feeling like it's a little slow, especially this last episode. Some things are seeming a little repetitive. I guess the finale is the wedding. I wonder what they'll come up with for next year. I've always wondered if this can be one of those shows that can move beyond the conclusion of a big plot element.

I hope so!

I think Kate will probably get pregnant again, and then we'll have a whole new set of milestones to match the present to the big three in the past. I also think we'll get more of Randall and Beth running the apartment, and their girls growing up, and more backstory on Jack and his brother. There will probably be some sort of big health scare with someone, way more "fill-in" on the year or two after Jack's death, and eventually Dr. K. passing on.

Tess's future could be a whole spin-off in itself, too.

I think it's long and slow but also fast. Some of the episodes seem very repetitive and slow moving with the plot, and then the episode is over and nothing much has really happened so it seems like it was so quick and the episode can't be over already. The last episode was definitely the worst for me in regards to this. It was just so slow and it didn't feel like anything was really happening. I don't feel like they did a good job of bouncing back and forth between storylines and I kept waiting for something big to happen, just to find out that it was basically what I expected from the beginning with Deja's mom and so it was a let down. It felt like the episode was over too quickly without a lot happening. Also, it feels like when I watch it on actual TV, it seems like there's a commercial about every 3 minutes which helps to make it feel like it's moving quickly, but with the plot moving so slowly at times, it messes with my mind a bit because like I stated, it feels like the plot progresses slowly, but the show ends so quickly without much happening.

I'd say that the show is definitely more character-driven than plot-driven. I like seeing what makes the characters who they are and how they relate to each other and the world, so it works for me. I think it's the same reason that I didn't feel compelled to see what happened to Jack as quickly as a lot of other people. I can see that people more interested in plot advancements might not like the show as much anymore. There can't be those big twists and reveals all the time, but I like the nuances of character development. Some weeks seem as if "nothing happened" if you are looking for plot advancements, but there is a lot of insights into the characters.

They screened the finale today at SXSW. The cast will be speaking on a panel tomorrow. I don't have a badge for sxsw this year!!! Why couldn't they have been here last year??!!! My husband has a badge, but he said there is no way he's going to that panel. He doesn't "get" the show, thinks it's just a cry fest.

My first thought was do people really get that close to their doctors? I just reconnected with a former surgeon - he's retired and I don't need his "specialty" any more, so we've been getting reacquainted as friends. It's um, interesting.

Love Tess, and a spin-off about her would be a lot more emotional than other spin-offs.

The doctor question...I can see the Pearsons getting close to Dr. K. He was with them through a very life changing moment for all of them.

Jack didn't have a good relationship with his own father and found him a wise father figure when he needed one most. And we've learned that Jack went back for advice as the kids grew up.

I had some medical issues as a kid and we saw my pediatrician often. Very kind man who was there to truly help people-before medicine became complicated with insurance and so much oversight. He called my mom on his days off to check on me.

On his days off from his practice, he worked in the ER and treated my dad one time. He helped me as an adult with a sprained ankle.

He then was still in practice when my oldest was born. Though he did really retire not too long after.

He recently died and I was very saddened to hear that. He left quite a legacy that many families will fondly remember.

Mine was also our neighbor for a while - our back yards butted up against each other.

My pediatrician is my neighbor now. (He is retired-at 55-I think he is around 60 now.) He left his wife for his neighbor who is a vet. This happened 20 years ago. He tore down his house and moved into his wife's across the street. His area where his house used to be, looks over a huge body of water, Lake Winnebago. His whole area is now gardens and that is what he tends. I see him occasionally and we chat about our dogs and his lawn and gardens. He likes my opinion when he does something new or plants something odd and it grows. We never, ever talk about my kids or his kids and they are the same age. I guess I don't want a real close relationship, 15 minutes out of your life for a week, is plenty for me.

Still watching....what did Kate have in her bouquet? It looked brown but I didn't see what it was.

I loved the line to her mom. "You weren't in my way, you were my way."

ETA, the flash forwards to a year from now were interesting and scary.

They did a great job at the end with the "future" scenes. I am speculating what could have happened or what is going to happen and have the rest of the year to do it. My big question is who is future Tess and Randall talking about at the end. I am leaning towards something happened with Beth but then you also have Deja. It is open ended.

I'm going to guess Deja since they had just shown Deja messing up Randall car.

I was trying to figure out what was in the bouquet, too--maybe the hammer?

Despite the sad future scenes, I thought they were good. It's a good play on how when you get married, you're so full of joy and hope, but then stuff happens and you have to work together to deal with it. It hit home with me--we had such a nice wedding, but by our third wedding anniversary, DH's father was dead.

I was fine until the end when it said “This Is Us returns this fall....” and my son turns to me and says “I won’t be here”. He leaves for college in August.
It literally took my breath away. We have never not watched together. Normally my husband, son and I watch all watch together. A few times (like tonight) my husband is tired and goes to sleep early, but Matt and I watch together. Even the episode where William died, Matt was so tired he was dozing off and we turned it off and finished in the morning before school.
