Anyone receive the survey about future properties?

I imagine that if any international park would to get a DVC (far) down the road, it would be Paris. It is outright owned by Disney, and after Walt Disney Studios Park has completed its major expansion, it will be better suited for villas and longer stays. They could build something on the main grounds or in the Villages, and market it to Europeans and those in the UK. That would be a better selling point-- sell DLP for their primary uses close to home while giving them the bait to spend the big bucks on bigger trip to WDW.

This is much in the same way Vail Resorts has bought all the little ski resorts around the country, and offering passes that entice skiers/boarders to take the big trip to their bigger markets Vail/Tahoe/PC/Whistler.

For the record, the Tokyo properties to me are far and away the best Disney parks in the world, though I don't see any way a DVC property would be successful there.

What if Disney were to re-brand the Paradise Pier Hotel‎ and covert a number of rooms into DVC? I would love to see that happen.

City of Anaheim restrictions, which I don't know the details of but I'm sure someone will follow up on.

DVC resorts have always been part of a Deluxe level resort or standalone... converting part of Paradise Pier to DVC would be putting it in an unofficial value/moderate level property. Plus that building is old.

Paradise Pier was bought by Disney from another company and lightly refurbished before rebranding it as a Disney hotel. Reviews are not stellar for the resort. I could see them doing a larger scale hotel refurbishment, make it a deluxe resort and sell one floor as DVC to finance the project. They would be able to create a very limited number of units (I think the same scale as VGC), so it would sell out in a couple of weeks.

We'd buy Aulani in a heartbeat if they operated like a real resort. Our "one and done" trip was due to their limited operating hours around the pools and food areas. Sorry, but if you don't have toddlers with early bedtimes, vacation means staying up late and sleeping in. The whole stalking chairs thing at the crack of dawn is not for us! Disney would probably make the same mistake with any new development, and we just don't trust them enough anymore to invest more with them. I hope they ditch this idea of building outside of Lake Buena Vista.

I can't help but feel like there are big plans for the future of DVC and that is why these new resale restrictions have been implemented..... But I wonder, would I be more likely to buy DVC direct if it meant I could stay at Disney Sea, etc.....??? Curious....Would this strongly change anyone's mind about buying direct vs resale?

We would only consider purchasing at a DL location, but I would love to stay at many of the other locations shown above.

Wish I had gotten the survey!

We’d love a ski resort. Also one near DL, even if it’s not in Anaheim, would be good. Tokyo and Paris sound awesome but that would probably be one and done for us, just bc of distance. But if they’re trying to appeal more to non-US folks, it’d be cool. The private island in the Bahamas also sounds amazing...

Maybe partly why Aulani is so far from selling out is it has so many points - 11 million total I heard, which is close to SSR’s 14 million? Just a guess.

Does anyone else think that they’re pretty much out of good locations for a new WDW DVC resort?

I actually would like to see more non-WDW options now. A ski resort or Caribbean island would really tempt me to buy direct in a way that Riviera and Reflections are not...

With Universal getting bigger with Epic Universe, the key for Disney is to ensure Orlando visitors are staying on their property. There's no better way to do that than to have them commit themselves for the next 50 years by buying a DVC contract SOMEWHERE/ANYWHERE.

Two years ago, I would have said that Disney was never building another off site property after Aulani's selling troubles and FL/SC hurricanes. However, I think a good strategy today is to build a whole network of smaller properties offsite in desirable, tourist heavy locations.

Vail? Yes please! Lake Tahoe? You betcha! Those are both places that I frequent often to ski, and I would buy either of those TODAY. Then, I'll be more inclined to plan a vacation to Orlando using those points to stay at WDW, rather than spend $$$ to stay at UOR. (Availability at 7mo is another discussion, the point I'm making is Disney ensuring you're visiting them and not Universal). You can take this same argument and apply it to any other location. You may not visit San Diego or Paris often, but for sure someone else does.

You must not have been to very many big cities to have San Francisco at the bottom of your list. Either that or you were one of the many theft victims here. #travelsmart
Lol. Dh and I have lived all over the world. San Francisco was post apocalyptic. Kind of a shocker. New York is like Disneyland compared to San Fran. You are right. We thought we’d seen it all. Too many homeless people everywhere. Never been to a city anywhere in the world with so many aggressive homeless. Dirty, expensive, people looked so miserable. All the surrounding areas were gorgeous and completely different though.

I'm sorry you had a negative experience, but San Francisco is my hometown and you're too extreme with your description. There are cities which are way worse economically than SF which better fit the term "post apocalyptic."

Let's not forget the Walt Disney Family Museum is in SF... where its location in the Presidio has amazing views of the Golden Gate.

It does. That is the main reason we went to San Francisco last summer— to see the Disney museum. But even at the Presidio complex there were homeless people. Not right at the museum, but on the grounds. We walked around the area, partly to get views of the bridge. They were all over. In the bushes, lying in front of doors blocking the path. It was very sad for us to see the Disney museum there. Beautiful building/s but such a strange city. Sorry if I seem harsh, but I am honest. We went to several other sites in the city, and homeless people were pretty much everywhere, some in your face, yelling. We saw used needles on the sidewalk in two places. The smells were intense. We had planned on staying another day but left early. Sure, there were plenty of people who seemed economically well off, but overall the city had a dark vibe. NYC is a mess but I find NYC still has a positive energy overall. I just got back from nyc and I did not see any needles anywhere. There were homeless people but not an overwhelming number and they were not threatening like in SF. Maybe we were just in SF on the worst day ever! But I do not think we will ever go back to find out. We did a lot of research on parking, and apparently San Francisco is the only city in the US where you cannot park your car and be reasonably sure it will not be broken into. Even the cruise and pier lots are run by some kind of mafia that break into your car while you are gone. We cruise a lot, so I have read a lot about different cruise port parking lots. Even in places like nyc, LA, Miami, and New Orleans there are relatively safe places to park your car. Your car is generally safe at port parking. But apparently not San Francisco. Read the reviews.
