New Reservation System ?

so as DVC members would you be making park reservations for your whole party that is going? probably a dumb question, sorry.

:P Disney lower prices? LOL! Fantasyland has NOT left the Magic Kingdom. I'm expecting the exact opposite..... Prices will go UP because they can't let in as many guests and they have to make up the profits from being closed.

While I don't expect prices to go down during the re-opening process, I don't expect they will go up either. I agree that Disney is expensive and the cost of a trip keeps increasing, Disney has been very decent in their cancellation policies throughout this pandemic. We cancelled our Spring trip pretty close to our date of arrival and by rights they could have charged us $200 in penalty ... but they didn't. We got every penny back and it was back in our hands very quickly. This is more than we got from the airlines or the cruise company when we had to cancel a summer trip as well. Disney is a class act and we will continue to visit the parks every chance we get!

And what about park hopping? Does that mean if you want to visit all 4 parks in one day people will have to "book" all for parks for that day?
If I had to guess, I would think this would inhibit some guests from being able to have guaranteed entrance to at least one park for the day. If one person books 2-4 parks, they will reach capacity quickly, correct? If they only allow each person to pick one they can better regulate their numbers and guarantee resort guests entrance to a park for the day. What about dining reservations too though? If I book MK for the morning, will I then be limited to only making dining reservations there for the day. Hoping we know more soon!

IMHO the problem with the reservation system is that it does not track when people LEAVE the park. So say the capacity is 20K guests, do you only accept 20K reservations? What happens at 3pm when 2K guests have left for the day? Are people on "standy", are people lined up at the gates waiting for capacity, will Disney over-book to keep it at "full" capacity? Having not been during NYE time frame what does WDW usually do when the reach capacity?

It's hardly a perfect system for sure.

I don't think it will be anything like what it is for normal capacity closures. I just don't see them allowing people to "standby" at the gates waiting to get in. You reserve your park and go to that park. Maybe you can reserve 2 parks in one day in order to park hop, maybe not. Unless they also put an estimated time of arrival on the reservation, they have no idea when you're coming, but your spot has to remain reserved, so they can't just let people in because they're not at "capacity."

The upside is for those who get there upon opening and stick it out to the very end of closing will probably have fairly low crowds on the two ends of the day.

Next thing you know people will have to scan out like they do when they scan into the park.

So if that be the case people who pay (or paid) for an AP that includes park hopping are getting screwed if they are only allowed one park per day???

You seem to be asking a lot of important but unanswered questions. Disney hasn't given answers to these questions, and no one here knows the answers, either ... it's all speculation. I'm sure we'll eventually have the answers, so no reason to assume the wrong things in the meantime.

How far out can you reserve a park day? Our May trip was cancelled, so the tickets moved to flexible date tickets. I haven't made hotel reservations because I'm waiting to see how things play out a bit. Not sure when/if Disney would contact me because I don't have any specific dates currently in the system. I may or may not try to get down there before my tickets expire on 12/15, but of course that would be dependent on actually being able to get into the parks.

The mods would appreciate if everyone would scan the first page of a forum before opening a new thread. I know the news came fast and sudden but it is hard to manage several threads on the same topic.
As for the new reservation system, Disney has not released any info other than to say people with existing passes and reservations will have first dibs on it.
SDL opened up their reservation system only days before first day of operrations, it might be that way here, it might not

I'm super stressed about this. We have an 8 night trip planned with rented DVC points in October. We have not purchased park tickets yet. I'm really worried that we will not be able to get park tickets. We cannot cancel our reservation without losing our money!

perhaps they will track exists and those will be available for same day park hopping reservations? I would be happy with that!

I do not think the park hopping thing is that big of a deal. They have stopped selling new tickets so if people in the future can not buy Park Hoppers as in option the only people left are APs and previously sold tickets and I do not think that will make it unmanageable to let those people only Park Hop.

I like the way you think

I agree with the general sentiment in here. I think it will limited to 1 park per day, mapping to FP+ reservations made.

Park Hopping will be allowed, once they get a handle on how this is working in practice.

I also think , pure speculation, that existing AP and DVC owners are going to get preference for new ticket bookings, as well as on-site hotels.
Very much wondering , whatever capacity they plan for, how that will impact off-site hotels.

Would love to have someone point me to hard core data points for WDW on-site rooms, and how it relates to park capacity numbers.

(this is someone who is Mass resident, with AP and DVC booked in November - original exp. date for AP was Dec 11)

from the announcement yesterday, no fp will be available and people with existing tickets will get priority
I believe they will implement the same system as when they sell RunnDisney races, that AP get to go into the reservation system first and then a day later the rest of people
  • New Ticket Sales and Hotel Reservations: At this time, we are temporarily pausing new ticket sales and Disney Resort hotel reservations so we can focus on guests with existing tickets and reservations. Existing ticket holders and Annual Passholders will be able to make a theme park reservation before new tickets are sold; we will be reaching out to these guests soon to provide additional details. We will resume new sales of tickets and Disney Resort hotel reservations after that period of time. Theme park reservations will be limited due to attendance limitations and will be subject to availability.
  • Dining and Experiences: In order to foster physical distancing during this time, upon reopening, our offerings, restaurants and other experiences such as behind-the-scenes tours will be limited in capacity, and other experiences may remain closed. As a result of limited capacity, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all existing dining reservations and experience bookings, including Disney dining plans included in packages. We will reopen dining and experience bookings with more limited numbers closer to when the parks reopen. We will also shift from a 180-day booking window to a 60-day booking window for dining and experience bookings going forward to allow Guests to make their plans closer to their visits.
  • FastPass+ and Extra Magic Hours: As a result of the COVID-19 impact, the FastPass+ service will be suspended for the time being as we plan to use additional queue space to manage capacity at our attractions and maintain physical distancing. We will automatically cancel existing FastPass+ selections and share any future updates on the service at a later date. Also, please note that upon reopening, Extra Magic Hours will be temporarily suspended.

I'm not sure what I should be doing :P Our reservation begins before the park opens on July 5th and ends after it opens, July 12th. I'm wondering if I will be given an opportunity to shift my dates prior to the new reservation system being activated? What about the folks who have existing reservations that need to modify? And if they can't modify before the new reservation system gets activated for park reservations? Too many thoughts in my head all at once....
