And it rained...and rained...and rained!

Fans of the Original The Living Seas will remember that one! :)

Hi everybody! I thought I would try to finally start my Report from my recent trip to the World a couple months ago. Before we left I was trying to think of a good title and couldn't really come up with anything. Unfortunately during the trip the perfect title came to mind...

We had so much rain on this trip, I couldn't even believe it. I have been to WDW many times had dealt with my share of rain but this was something else. I'll fill you in about that as we go.

I have been to WDW many times and the last 2 trips I have reported on. This will be my 3rd trip report. I hope you all enjoy hearing about it as much as I think I'll enjoy telling you.

For more info you can look at my PTR below in my signature. I couldn't finish it before I left for the trip but all the important info is there. In case anyone doesn't want to read the PTr I will give the basics.

There won't be a lot of pics in these first couple updates but I did take plenty during the trip so there will be lots in the updates to come.

I guess I should introduce myself for those of you that don't know me. I am Danielle and I am a Home Care nurse, I work on call/evenings, which means I head out around 5pm and see a few people in the evening hours, usually overflow admissions or regular visits if anyone called out sick that day or if a Patient was an add on because they were having issues. Then I go home usually about 9 or 10pm and do my Computer notes/documentation :surfweb: and basically wait for the phone to ring, I am "On call" till 8am. Usually I am lucky but sometimes I might have to go back out if someone has a catheter blocked, etc. I don't have to stay awake but I usually do until about 4 or so doing notes and watching Reruns on Nick at Nite (Love those! LOL).

My Hubby's name is Tim, he is a Cleaner at the local Racetrack/Casino. He works on the Racing side, they also do a certain number of special events, concerts in the summers.

We live in Western NY, not far from Rochester, and no, we didn't get all that snow they got out by Buffalo. We get hit hard sometimes but thank goodness that one missed us! (I think we got a total of 2 inches out of that whole episode) :woohoo:

And last but not least is my Dad, Bob. He and my late mom are largely responsible for my love of all things Disney. All but 4 of the trips you see listed in my siggie are with him ( one of the 87s, 91, 2004 and 2010) He lives in Philadelphia and is still working full time at 73. He is retired Army (20 years, retired in 1980) and has worked as a civilian for the Dept of Defense at the local Navy Depot since shortly after he retired from the Army. We don't get to see him as often as we would like and when we do it is only for a weekend at a time so we are looking forward to spending some quality time with him on this trip. :)

DH and I had talked about the possibility of inviting others to join us but then thought with such short notice, the chances of anyone else coming would not be likely. A couple days later I was talking to my Dad and mentioned that we made the ressie and on a whim asked him if he wanted to come. He was reluctant at first due to his work schedule but when he heard our dates, said that those days actually worked well for him because it was a slow time for him at work.

I don't think I actually got too many pics of him on this trip so here is one from our last trip in 2011.

The other person in the Pic is my MIL, she was with us on the last trip, too, along with my SIL and her DH at the time and his Dad (check out the "May 2011" TR below if you are interested)

We were in WDW from September 25th until October 2nd and stayed at POP century. This was our 2nd time staying there (my Dad's 1st). and our rooms ended up being just down the hall from where we stayed in 2004.

Day 0- Wednesday Sept 27th:

We were leaving the next day so I had a lot of things to do to get ready. I actually ended up having a staff meeting that I normally would have skipped but there was a mandatory seminar that I needed to go to about HIPAA/Corporate Compliance training (yearly educational thing that we used to do online or "self tests" but has to be live for some reason this year) then I had to turn my Laptop in for the Vacation. They "babysit" them when we are out of town and not taking them with us in case there are any updates, etc while we are gone. I could have taken it with me but I was afraid of something happening to it, since it is a company laptop.

When I got home from that I went home to gather up clothes, I had everything I needed except some shorts I had taken to my MIL's to hem, we were going to pick those up that evening and then have dinner with her. The plan was to only have those things to add to the suitcase but of course I left it till the last minute... then I took a nap until it was time to pick up hubby from work. When we got home, we packed up the cat and went out to take him in to be boarded for the week we would be gone.

We had a nice visit with Tim's mom. She did a good job on my shorts. My Dad called me while we were there, he was in Georgia just that side the Florida Border. He had left at about 3am :scared1: from Philly and stopped at about 4-5p. He had eaten dinner and was back in his hotel room. He was leaving early the next morning and was going to stop at Walmart on his way to the Resort to pick up some groceries for us to have breakfasts in the room. We said our goodbyes to Tim's Mom and headed home to pack and get some sleep.

Since Southwest has free checked bags (1st one I think) I thought we could take 2 suitcases this time since we usually only take 1. But we had so much room left in the 2 that I ended up repacking it into one. We weighed it on our bathroom scale to make sure we weren't over and we were good to go.

Day 1: Thursday September 28th

Our Flight was leaving at 11:55am. We left the house later than I wanted to (then had to turn around and go back because we forgot something) but we made good time on the roads to the Rochester Airport. it's only about a 30 minute drive there. There was some construction going on in the front and that made us detour to get into the parking lot but we got a good spot and luckily a shuttle was coming in as we were getting out of the car. I like this airport parking lot, they pretty much pick you and drop you off right at your car.

We got through security and to the gate easily (well as easily as you can with 2 CPAP's)

We had never flown Southwest before and was nervous about how this open seating thing would work. We had B 41 and 42 I think. The gate was already pretty crowded and there weren't many seats left for waiting but we got 2 by the window. I settled in and read my Kindle until our numbers were called.

We ended up with pretty good seats on the plane about halfway back and even an empty one between us even though they said the flight was full. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the legroom in the seats. Even Tim could straighten his legs under the seat in front of him. Shoulder and hip room is another story but leg room was great. It would have been very uncomfortable had there been the 3rd person there so we were glad to have the extra space.

The actual flight was uneventful and we even landed a little early - we were supposed to land at 2:35 and I think we landed at about 2:20p. . By the time we landed and got going towards the ME buses, I was starving, we had eaten a very small breakfast before heading out at like 9:30am and it was after 2:30 by now. We stopped at the little food court they have there and I had some Chick Fil A nuggets. :lovestruc They were good, I hadn't had them in years, Tim had pizza.

We went to the ME area, wow that is a hike and a half to get there! I got to use my Magic Band for the first time at the entrance to the line for the bus, I was so excited to see that little Mickey light up! (I'm sorry, it doesn't take much to make me happy! LOL)

We were further back in the bus than I wanted but I did manage to get a couple pics during the drive:

I called my dad from the bus first when we were leaving the airport then again as we were going in the gate to the Resort so that he could get out and meet us at the front.

Yay :cool1: So glad you started your TR! Thanks for the heads up!

What a great travel day. You really had a nice, uneventful flight! Sounds like everything went perfectly.

I have found with SWA that as long as I have a B boarding group I usually can sit with Denny. Once you have a C boarding group its a little bit more difficult.

And I think they always tell you the flight is 100% booked so you just find and seat, sit down, and get out of the way.

Yay for chik-fil-al! :thumbsup2

When I left off, we had just arrived at the Resort

Check in was a Breeze and we were the 60's section in the room connecting to my Dad's room. We stopped at the food court to pick up our Mugs and something to drink in them and then headed over to check out the room and drop off our things. We were greeted with this on the bed:

Here is a Pic of my Mug:

Nobody that knows me would be at all surprised at the color I chose (actually that's also evidenced by the color of the type in this report...). Tim chose Green and my Dad picked Red I believe.

When we opened the connecting door to start unloading grocery items we heard something snap and then we noticed that the laminate type coating on the door was loose. The whole top corner was coming off, like about 1/3 of the way down and 3/4 of the way across. The fridge had also been unplugged and we couldn't get to the outlet to plug it back in. I called Maintenance (pushed the wrench button on the phone) and told them the issue and they had someone there within about 5 minutes.

She was able to get the fridge all squared away and she even checked my Dad's settings they were not real cold so she fixed those. She looked at the door and said someone else would come to fix that. We told her we were headed out soon and they could come anytime.

When we got our cereal, milk, bagels, etc squared away, we went to look around the resort, the pool the gift shop. I bought a few postcards to send out. I was pleased to see a variety of things in the larger sizes. 2 and 3x, even some 4 and 5 x in some things. You didn't used to see that too often.

A Pic of the Hippy Dippy Pool, you can see how cloudy it was.

We had an 8:15p ADR at Boma for this evening and I wanted a chance to look around the resort and possibly see some animals before it got dark so we got in the Car and headed out.

We set the GPS to get us to AKL and it was pretty easy to get to. None of us had seen this resort yet so it was going to be a first all around. OMG that resort is gorgeous, I love the Lobby.

My pics aren't that great (blurry) but I will post them anyway. My Dad I think got a few good ones but he hasn't sent me his pics yet. When I get them, I will post them.

Most of these are self explanatory, the Lobby, the fire Pit outside and the animals in the viewing area.

Here we are:

It got dark quickly...

We checked in for our ADR at about 7:40 or so (I thought we would have had more time to see the animals but it got so dark) so we figured we would try and they said we could check in early but we would probably have to wait, there were seats so we were ok with that. We really only waited about 10 minutes so that was good. We were taken to our table and it would have been great if it was light out because it was right at a window. We were seated at a 4-top that was one of those bench seats and then 2 chairs.

I only took pics of my plates here but here they are:

Top is African Vegetable Lentil soup (with a dinner roll in it), black Olive Hummus (this was really good) with some pita bread and some mealie bread

The second one was from the top some kind of roast chicken (Durban?) some Pasta and red sauce, Broccolini, some more of that hummus and pita and Mac and cheese ( I can't resist some mac and cheese)

Then came the desserts:

The top is an African bread pudding with salted caramel sauce (that sauce got all over everything I should have put that separate) A strawberry/mint panna cotta type thing, a pineapple cheesecake, the famous Zebra Domes and the last on the left is a Kenyan Tart (it was coffee flavor and I actually liked that the best. I had Tim get me a couple more of those when he went up. The Zebra Domes were good too but not my Favorite. I wasn't thrilled with the other 2 things.

Overall we liked it at Boma, I wouldn't feel the need to go every trip or anything, I would, however like to try a breakfast there.

After leaving the restaurant we headed out to the car and back to the resort. when we got back to the room both connecting doors had blue painters tape on them, holding them together. We hoped that wasn't the "Fix" Oh, well it was mostly in between to 2 doors. We went to bed fairly early since we had plans to get out early the next day.

All in all a good first day.

Next up: Epcot and Food and Wine!!

Ok, I'll remember that

Makes sense!!

Yay for chik-fil-al! :thumbsup2

I used to get it all the time when I worked at the hospital down in Virginia (2002-2005) where they had one in the lobby that was open late. Us 3-11 Nurses usually didn't get many dinner breaks especially when I was the only RN but even when we did, the cafeteria closed at 7 so it was usually 8 or 9 when we would even have time to stop.

:welcome: Thanks for joining in!

I Just posted the next installment

Looking forward to reading more. I agree with you on Boma. Thought it was okay, but nothing I'd rush back for. I do want to try their breakfast though.

Day 2, Friday 9/26/14 EPCOT

Today we were headed to Epcot and the Food and Wine Festival!! I think Tim could take it or leave it but my Dad and I were looking forward to this, I sent him a link to the food booths a couple weeks before and he was surprised at what they had and was looking forward to using snack credits there for lunch.

We had breakfast in the room (cereal, bagels) from our groceries that Dad got us. (He is a much earlier riser than us and went down to the food court in the mornings for his coffee before we were even awake). We did leave later than we planned but were out the door by 9am. I will say we might not have been as early as we planned (or as early as my Dad wanted us to be, LOL) but we did pretty good about getting up and out early, better than we ever had actually. :thumbsup2

Anyway, we walked over to the Bus stop and the line was long already. :scared1: We ended up standing on the bus on the way there. I should have seen that as foreshadowing to the fact that it was going to be much more crowded this week than we were expecting when we booked it. I actually don't like all these new buses, it's like they want and expect people to stand, they have so few seats on them that there are more people standing than sitting. and those bus drivers don't take into account that there are people standing when they make those lurching stops and go too fast around turns, it's very tiring and hard to keep your balance.

We arrived shortly afterwards and went towards the gate, my Dad had to do the bag check, he wears a "fanny pack", yes I know it's lame and so does he but it does the job, he has so much in that thing (which you'll see pays off for me tomorrow...) actually the one he wore most of the trip was my mothers one that she used on her last few trips to the World so there was a little sentimental value in using it in her favorite place.

Magic Band scanning went off without a hitch. I will say now that I really liked them for the most part, I felt they worked well for us. Tim fought wearing it after the first day and asked about carrying it his pocket but did end up wearing it for the whole trip. For what it's worth, I had Pink, Tim had Blue and my Dad had the Gray.

Here are a couple pics I took in the front entrance area, that's Tim in the red

I never could get a clear shot of this:

We saw that Spaceship Earth was 10 minute wait so we got in line, had some time to kill before our first FP+ of the day anyway which was Mission Space at 10-11, the 2nd one was Soarin' at 11:45.

It was like the A/C wasn't working right in SSE, it was kind of hot and stuffy in there but good ride as usual, I miss when Walter Cronkite narrated. I can never get good pics in there so I didn't try.

Next we headed over to The Living Seas, I always liked that one even before Nemo got involved. My Dad and I would get a laugh out of that little movie they had in the pre-show, which is where the title of this TR came from. After the Ride we went out to see the fish but then ended up watching the Scuba Demonstration which I had never seen before, they were usually finishing it up anytime I came close to seeing it. It took longer than we planned so we went right out to our FP+ at MS after that without seeing many fish.

Here are the few pics I took there:

Next we were off to Mission Space. We really didn't need the FP, there wasn't much of a wait. I wish you could get Soarin' and Test track on the same day. We actually did look into Single Rider on TT before we went into the Living Seas but it was down.

Tim was pretty apprehensive about this one and actually tried to get out of it but we convinced him to go on it, he ended up liking it and...spoiler alert! He wanted to go on it again later in the trip..

After that we went over to The Land and rode Living with the Land. I will say I miss the older version of this one too. I miss when there was an actual guide in the boat that would point out what we were seeing. I miss the little song, too LOL Tim used to have a greenhouse/Nursery business just out of college with his parents when we they were living in Virginia (Outside Roanoke) so this holds some interest for him to see all the different types of growing/farming

I want to say these might have been Dragon Fruit?

I like this little waterfall:

Ha! This might be the one pic of my Dad! LOL

After LWTL we had time until the FP fo Soarin' so we went upstairs to watch the Circle of Life Movie. Here we are in the waiting area:

My Dad was pretty sure he hadn't seen this one so he enjoyed it for what it was. That theater could use some sprucing up.

Back downstairs for a Bio Break before Soarin. We still waited about 20 minutes in the FP+ line but stand by was 80 so we still made out.

Next up: "The Deluge!!" and F&W yumminess.

Just thought I would post a "Life Update"

I had to have my kitty put down this morning.

He spent last night at the vet hospital with a pleural effusion.

I originally took him in yesterday because because he was peeing blood. He has had urinary issues off and on his whole life so I thought it was more of the same but while I was waiting for the Vet to call me back yesterday to say whether they wanted me to take him in or not I also noticed that he was breathing weird, like labored and his chest was retracting in a strange pattern. I had noticed him breathing heavier the other day but then it went away and he seemed fine so I didn't worry about it.

Doc did an xray of his bladder to check the urinary issue because it was very distended and then looked at his chest too and saw the fluid. He was breathing worse and more lethargic this morning and called me this morning to tell me and get permission to do a Tap. She tried a few times to drain some fluid out with a needle but he fought her. At this point the only other option would be to do it under anesthesia and intubate him, etc and that's too much for him at his age (16). She thought that it probably wasn't going to be a good long term prognosis anyway, since he most likely also had a bladder tumor too so I didn't want to put him through any more.

I went over there at 9:30a to be with him when they did it. My sister in Law went with me, which I greatly appreciated. Tim was working and I had planned on just going by myself but looking back, that wouldn't have been good. I got to sit with him some before and after and I am so glad I had that time. I am just so sad. He was the first pet I ever had that was Mine. I got him right after I moved out of my parents house and into my first apartment. He traveled with me from Philly, to Virginia and then here to NY where I live now. It's going to e weird not having him meet me at the top of the steps when I get home, which he actually did most days. :sad1: Here is a pic of him (The only one I have digitally at the moment I think, it's also in my PTR below)

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I think you did the right thing. A pleural effusion has to be a sign of some type of underlying disease - cancer or pneumonia. And the FUS is such a problem with male cats. Poor guy. He is a beautiful cat. I am sure you will miss him very much! Hugs to you! I still miss my male cat I had put to sleep last year. You must still be in a bit of shock. I am so sorry!

Back to your update. So glad you got your fridge fixed in no time. Sounds like your trip is off to a great start.

AK is such a gorgeous resort and Boma is definitely one of my favorites - for lunch and dinner!

Yay for food & wine. I just love it. It's so much fun! It's great that you can use your snack credits there. And you made great time to Epcot to start your day. It's impossible to get a clear shot of Spaceship earth.

I just love LWTL!

Thank you.

It's weird, a pleural effusion is basically what ended up taking my BIL back in May, it just kept building up.

I am a bit in shock, I was thinking it was going to be a UTI, some Abx and be on our way and now he is gone. It's going to be weird not having a pet in the house but at this point I don't think I can do it again, at least not for now. Maybe in time.

I am planning to post the next part of the Epcot Update with Food and wine info soon, maybe later tonight.

Looks like I've joined in at a bitter sweet time. I'm sorry to hear about your cat. We can't live without kitties and I understand your reluctance to enter into another bond like that. Im sure he had a great life with you while it lasted.

As gar as your trip goes, you're off to a great start! Looking forward to hearing about the rest!

We are back from our trip to Tennessee and I was getting caught up with your report when I read about your beloved cat. I am so very sorry to hear that you had to have him put down. It's a tough decision to make but it sounds like the best one given the circumstances. Hugs to you!

When I left off, we had come out of Soarin.

As we came out of the Land Pavilion, we noticed it had been raining. We had planned on doing Lunch at the Food and wine Booths this day so we headed over to World Showcase. The further we got the harder it rained. We ducked into the store at the entrance to world Showcase and my dad bought 3 ponchos. We put them on in the store and then went back out to brave the rain. Our first stop was Scotland. My Dad and I both have been looking forward to trying this scallop ever since we saw the F&W booth list, so needless to say we both made a beeline for that booth. Tim doesn't eat most seafood so he went to the Hawaii Booth that was nearby to get a pulled pork slider that I also wanted to try so I did get a bite. It was good. I don't have a pic of the Pork but I do have one of the Scallop:

I also got a bottle of Lemonade that I intended on paying OOP for but the girl at the register added it in as a snack credit. I tried to see if they would fix it but the girl was new and was going to have to get someone else, etc and it was busy so I just "let it go" (Ha Ha).

We ate these off to the side under the overhang of the store where we got the ponchos. after we ate I noticed there were little orange booklets, these were the "Passports" and you could get a little stamp at each booth, so we went back to the 2 booths we had visited and got the stamps. Next we went to Canada and I had to get some of the Cheese soup. Dad and Tim thought that sounded good so we all got some. Here we were able to get one of the tall tables under the trees by the water so we at least had a place to be while eating the soup, but I was surprised there weren't more places to sit to eat. I will tell you the rain did put a damper on some of the fun, it's not fun to eat in the rain. It was raining pretty hard by this point and there were puddles forming and everything.

The cheese soup was good but a little spicier than I remembered it being when we had it a few years ago at le Cellier. I also wish they gave you one of those pretzel rolls (or any bread kind of bread or crackers would have worked) to eat with it.

(Yay! LOL another pic of my dad, that's him on the left with the green hat, LOL)

It definitely was weather for ducks, LOL

Pic of the back of Tim's Poncho

Next we noticed it was getting close to our next FP time (Maelstrom). I am so glad I scheduled this one, given that it closed days after we left. We wanted to try and cut out some of the time walking in the rain so we took the boat over to Morocco (one to Germany just left). Then we went to Norway and got in line at Maelstrom.

We waited about 10-15 minutes in the FP line. We ended up in the front row of the boat. It was a fun ride. I knew there were warnings that you could get wet but I didn't take those seriously because I had been on it many times and never got wet. This time, though, Oh wow we actually did get wet, Tim actually got soaked on his right side, when we went down the hill the water sloshed over the side of the boat and into the floor and onto the seat.

Since we knew it was ending, we waited and watched the little movie at the end. I am looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

Next we made our way over to The American adventure. A show had just gone in so we went in to wait and get out of the rain for a while. Shortly after we sat down, the Voices of Liberty came in and did their show. I tried to get some pics but they all came out blurry, this was the best of the bunch:

I really love this show. Especially the montage of pics towards the end and the song.

When we came out I saw that the booth with the Lobster alfredo was there so I got one of those. It was really good, lots of lobster.

I also had a glass of Apple Ice Wine, no picture but it was good. My dad had a Sam Adams Beer that he wasn't crazy about. I forget what one it was.

After this we back tracked to Mexico and went on the boat ride there. Then at some point we were about to go across the drawbridge and it was up so the Illuminations barges could go through. I got some pics of them.

I had never seen those so it was neat to see. We were seeing lots of new and different things this trip.

We headed over to check out the Festival Center to see what was there. On the way over we decided to try to collect more stamps in our Passport books, we ended up making it a mission to try and get them all.

I did stop at the Terra Booth and tried the Watermelon juice, that was refreshing if a bit strange.

In the Festival Center we went into the Ghirardelli store they had there and there were these cool chocolate sculptures on display

It was weird to be in the old Wonders of Life Pavillion. I miss some of the attractions in there.

We walked around and people watched for a little while, looked at some of the displays, then went out to take the boat over to Germany for our dinner ADR.

I went in some of the stores in Germany and looked around, then we went over to check in for our ADR. Checked in at about 6:50 for our 7:30 ADR. We waited about 10 minutes. This is the one request Tim had as to where to eat on this trip, he really likes it here.

We were seated in the back right of the room, actually the next table over from where we sat on our 2011 trip.

I took a pic of the band, they were playing as we were being seated.

I only took pics of my plates:

Clockwise from Top was Roast Pork, Cheese soup with some pretzel rolls in the bowl, then roasted potatoes, braised red cabbage, Spaetzle, and then a potato dumpling in the center.

2nd plate was more red cabbage and spaetzle with some of the gravy that came with the pork, some Mac and cheese (thise was really good) and more pretzel rolls.

Another band pic:

My dessert plate, sorry it's dark:

After dinner I went into the Caramel store to get some goodies.

Karamel Kuche goodies:

Ireally wanted to see Illuminations but it was only about 8:45 at this point and the show was for some reason at 10 that night so we didn't want to wait around another hour. We headed out for the long hike to the bus and of course we had to stand on the way back to the resort. We were pretty tired when we got back to the room, this little guy was on my Dad's bed:

We went to bed early because we had a very early breakfast ADR the next day.

Next up Kona Cafe and MK.

I just posted the rest of the Epcot day update

We are back from our trip to Tennessee and I was getting caught up with your report when I read about your beloved cat. I am so very sorry to hear that you had to have him put down. It's a tough decision to make but it sounds like the best one given the circumstances. Hugs to you!

Thank you.

Yes it was definitely the right thing, especially after I went to see him, he was suffering even then, I definitely didn't want him to suffer more.

Yuck to the rain. I'm glad it didn't put much of a damper on your day.

How fun that you got to ride Maelstrom one more time. I missed it in May and I regret it. Boo!

WOW to those chocolate structures in the festival center. I am seriously bummed that I didn't go look at them while I was there in October.
